You decided to keep walking. After what you've been through, you cannot just take another potentially fatal risk. You watched as the car zoomed away from you.

The road was hot, but at least you could hear cicadas and some birds, unlike inside the forest. You glanced back at the woods. You kept your distance from the outskirts of it.

The cool shade under the trees could help you a lot. Your sweat dripped from your forehead down to your chin. If you stay too long under the sun, you're afraid it's going to cause you to collapse. Your mouth felt so dry, and your tongue felt like sandpaper.

You crossed the road to get a better view of the forest. About a few feet away, you could see a lake, its water clear and glistening under the rays of the sun.
