She makes the moves up as she goes which is why she’s learning all those different dances. It’s a metaphor to figuring out her life as she goes. Then it’s just her in black clothes which is like a canvas and it’s also where she has her new hair down (as opposed to the other scenes). She’s just showing who she is. (Also I don’t know if you fathom that in the video because I just started watching lmao)

Awww, I loved this you guys!! Bonnie, you totally messed me up with your refathoming of Shake it Off!! I've always felt like that awkward kid that never really fit in.. I really feel like that's why I took to Taylor at a young age, bc I've always been able to relate! Also, I cannot wait to watch NEW secret song reactions from the Eras tour starting back this weekend!! ❤️

I can’t believe you’re just now fathoming all the dancing. This is maybe my favorite ts music video because of the message. Especially coming off of the hate she was getting for her dancing at award shows at the time.

By the way, the way I've also always interpreted that MV is that the different dance styles represent her trying out and exploring her SOUNDS. By that point in her career she had started doing that and obviously we know now how much more and far she explored. But I always saw it as "I cannot and WILL NOT be confined to only one genre of music, I will do my own thing because that's what I love." And oooh what a beautiful message to go back to now that we've had all those 5 other albums after 🥹💙
