It is real! Here is a preview of the Hero Me Magnet Edition Beta. I will be posting the first beta STL part sets no later than this weekend. I am prioritizing the beta parts based upon the results of the Patreon surveys in July. The first sets of Hero Me Magnet Edition Beta STLs will include the following:

Gantry Adapters for the follow 3D printer models:

  • Ender 3/Pro/V2
  • Ender 5/Pro/Plus
  • CR-10/S
  • Micro Swiss DD

Hero Me Bowden Bases for the following hotends:

  • Creality OEM, MK8
  • Micro Swiss All Metal
  • Phaetus Dragonfly BMS
  • E3D-Online V6 and Revo Six
  • Phaetus Dragon (collar)
  • Dragonfly BMO
  • (basically true V6 groove mount clones)

Hero Me Direct Drive Bases for the following extruders (and the hotends above):

  • Bondtech BMG
  • Orbiter V2.0
  • Micro Swiss DD kit

This post has a couple teaser photos of one setup.

The specs on the magnets are:

  • True Neodymium magnets
  • 20mm by 6mm by 3mm
    or
  • 3/4in by 1/4in by 1/8in

The above are the recommended, and are the MAX sizes for the magnets. I will be listing several suppliers of the magnets by tomorrow (some suppliers have already been listed in the #hero-me-magnet channel on the Discord server).

The Magnet Edition Gantry Adapters are keyed to matching slots in the Bases so that there is no movement in the X and Z axes as shown in one of the attached images.

You might also note a change in the design of the Gantry Adapters in general from the sample image. Going forward as I update them, there will now be only one Gantry Adapter per 3D Printer model (really per unique X carriage or 3rd party X carriage). The one shown in the attached image is for both 2 screw mount hotends and V6 collar / vertical mount hotends. Those that are 2 screw horizontal mount (e.g. Creality OEM and clones) will have stand off inserts that go between the Gantry Adapter and the hotend. they fit over the metal standoffs of the X carriage so the screws past through the hotend, standoff and Gantry Adapter to connect with the X carriage as in the current design.

There are of course some exceptions (MS DD kits for example) that will have a different version than above. But this greatly simplifies the Gantry Adapter part selection by cutting the number of STLs in half.

If you are a Hero Me Documentation Tier or Official Patron Tier supporter and would like to participate in the Hero Me Magnet Edition beta, please upgrade to the All-Access patron tier (or higher) to be included in this beta.

Upon release, the Hero Me Magnet Edition STLs will remain exclusive to my patrons at the All-Access patron tier or higher.

Looks interesting. Though those don't look to be tapered centering mounts (probably hard to do properly with magnets). Do they shift around any? Does the small shifting on the mount move the tip around enough to cause layer inaccuracies? This would probably effect heavy or fast printers more, if it is an issue.

That was semi addressed in the description The Magnet Edition Gantry Adapters are keyed to matching slots in the Bases so that there is no movement in the X and Z axes as shown in one of the attached images. If you look at the last pictures you can see 4 keyed mounting tabs that look like they are placed to inhibit any movement between the hotend and the mount gantry adapter.
