Heads up, there’s some bumpy audio in this one, and it starts the same as episode 237, but you won't want to miss a minute! Enjoy an extensive hangout session with the panel you know and love along with Maddy Thorson, covering a wildly broad range of topics but most importantly determining The Fate of The 3D Platformer.

A SMALL DESCRIPTION OF EPISODES PULLED FROM:

  • (Ep. 237) Extended intro. As you heard in the intro of the episode proper, Special Guest Maddy Thorson listens to Insert Credit Show while working out. Frank explains why people get angry at our show. Jaffe explains which season of the show this is. Brandon discusses the Shenmue prototype disc. Tim explains the idea of Bucket List Games.
  • (Ep. 237) Extended break. Brandon has been buying more homebrew games lately, explains SGDK to Special Guest Maddy Thorson, and shares his opinion on the Coen Bros. film nobody saw, Hail Caesar! Jaffe makes a joke almost nobody will get.
  • (Ep. 237) A nice, long, chill hangout with Special Guest Maddy Thorson on topics including
    -3D platforming,
-Tim mentioning his favorite hardware for playing retro games,
    -The Concept Art Zelda,
-whether or not Elden Ring is too long,
    -The Meteorite Staff,
-whether or not Zelda 1 is an open world game,
    -Final Fantasy XV,
    -the most rigid Fromsoft game,
-which Fromsoft game Tim hasn’t beaten,
-a canonical explanation for deaths in Celeste,
-the secret place to find the best indie 3D platformers,
    -Super Mario X,
-a juicy little tidbit about Maddy Thorson’s next game,
    -saying “GUI,”
-the first question Tim asks anyone who has a baby,
-Brandon’s opinion of the movie Old (the movie with the beach that makes you old),
-which M. Night Shyamalan film made Tim yell the loudest he has ever yelled
-stronger recommendations for Severance and The Green Frontier
    -and much more!

That Mario Odyssey was alright but it sure was surprising when you get through New Donk City and instead of ending it just goes back to vague desert water levels.

I saw Napalm Death about a decade about and they played You Suffer once and did the same thing afterwards. It sure made me feel smart knowing it had happened! I yelled for them to play Garfield for President and Shane Embury lit up at the request. Such nice Fellas!

(brandon:) Delightful!! I wish they had played anything off fear, emptiness, and despair, but they did not. Still a lovely evening, and quite a different crowd from when I went to see a bay area thrash show last weekend. Lots of uhhhhh rough dudes there lol

Incredible bonus episode. Not just because I'm a big fan of Maddy, this had me cracking up like a madman while walking alone through target

Everybody's Super Sonic racing Try to keep your feet right on the ground When you're Super Sonic racing There's no time to look around!!!! Also that napalm death song is called You Suffer. Great back to back references.

On that note, I had a friend who played in a band that was supposed to go on tour with Napalm Death. It was announced right before the pandemic went down and got canceled completely 😔 he’s a drummer in a new band now called Slugcrust and he’s grinding his way around the southeast. Check em out if you like some good ole fashioned grindcore.
