40:00 Generally speaking I'm not a Rogers fan but I think in this scene (at least from his perspective) he was right on both his speech to Max and to dismiss Eleanor. Starting from the latter, you saw her being more submissive than she would normally be and as a lack of respect towards her, but in my opinion it is Eleanor who was wrong, because she questioned (or attempted to) Rogers (who the boss there) in front of Max who is to all intents and purposes his subordinate in that situation. It's the classic "don't question my orders in front of other officers" that you hear in movies featuring military men. About the speech he gave to Max, she sided with Rogers because that was the only way to keep her privileged position there and offered him help, but while Eleanor completely joined the English cause, Max still wanted to be a middle almost neutral part, to keep a foot in both camps. I think it's fair that for Rogers this is not acceptable, just earlier he was talking about the pirates not collaborating because they wanted to stay chill and see who would win, too easy that way. Also Max is fairly wealthy at this point, and considering there are many men dying or being injured for the cause, I think some pieces of eight are a preferable contribution about which she shouldn't complain.

Talking about Flint, we can't say this is his war of course, it's much bigger than him especially now that the slaves are involved, but all of this is happening thanks to him. Flint spent 10 years building up and preparing for this, he started it and lead everyone to this moment, sacrificing a lot in the process, it feels right to me that he should be the one to keep the lead, also considering that he still is the best strategist among all of the parties involved.
