If you like to read you should check out Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets. It was written by David Simon who created The Wire. He used to be a journalist back in the day for the newspaper the Baltimore Sun and he spent a year with the Homicide Division. The crime scenes and the way they investigate is the basis of the book, Very detailed. Some of the crime scenes, detectives and other things and people were inspiration for a lot of what ended up on The Wire. It's also regarded as one of the greatest true crime novels.
