I'm glad you're enjoying all these little bits of additional info, it's always a pleasure to share them! :) West Point is the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY, where one can go for undergrad education/training to become an officer in the Army. The institutions for the other branches are in Annapolis (MD) for the Navy & Marines, in Colorado Spring (CO) for the Air Force & Space Force, and in New London (CT) for the Coast Guard. Webster was actually warmly welcomed by the men, unlike what's depicted in the show. He had been pretty seriously wounded and had been shipped all the way back to England. It's more the officers who had a poor opinion of him, not that he was a bad soldier, he never shirked any duty and never let a man down, but he also showed absolutely no ambition for making rank, and never volunteered for anything. At that point in the war, he was one of the very few original Toccoa men who were still having the rank of Private. Eion Bailey, who plays Webster, took a few weeks vacations in India while the rest of the cast were sweating bullets on the sound stages filming Ep6-Ep7. When they filmed Ep8 later on (actually the last episode filmed of the series) the directors told the cast to remember Eion's comfy vacations, and to channel this envy/resentment into their characters' cold welcome of Webster. At this point in the war, Malarkey was the Easy Co. member who had spent the most consecutive time on the front lines, having never been seriously wounded. That's why he's depicted in this episode as being so exhausted, mentally and physically. Lt Jones is played by Colin Hanks, Tom Hanks' son. At first, some other actors figured he got the role thanks to some good old nepotism, but Colin's professional behavior and hard work soon won them all over. Before the mission, the guys are running a flame over the shiny metal parts of their guns to cover them in soot, so they won't reflect light so much. Tom Hanks provided the moans of pain of the 3rd prisoner left on the far side of the river. Eventually, some of Easy's guys tried throwing some grenades to take him out, but failed. Cobb threw one in turn, and managed to kill the German. Cobb's portrayal in the show, bitter and abrasive, sometimes cowardly even, clashes with what some men have written about him in their books, some depicting him as "invariably good-natured" and a good soldier. However, what can't be denied is that he did get into an altercation with a Lt after the patrol, guns had to be drawn on him, and Col Sink told Lt Foley (the actual Lt involved in the patrol) that he should just have saved everyone a whole bunch of troubles and simply shot Cobb. Cobb would be court-martialed and eventually dishonorably discharged from the Army. Near the end of the episode, just after Webster climbs in the truck, you can see a jeep driving by, with Cobb and some MPs in it. Lt Jones would sadly pass away in 1947 following a car accident, in Germany. He had been stationed there since the end of the war, and had not returned to the US.
