Mark's relationships are about to be a mess. Innie Mark is falling for Helly, experiencing love for the first time, while his outie is grieving a wife who might still be alive. Outie Mark's relationship with the mid-wife is emotionally complicated because he can't get over Gemma, while his innie is experiencing the opposite. So, if (when) Mark reintegrates, he will naturally be torn between his love for his wife (assuming Gemma is alive) and his budding new romance with Helly, the woman with whom his innie bonded emotionally the most and discovered romance. On the other hand, Irving had to watch the person he fell in love with being wiped out of existence. His scene with Burt was akin to watching a loved one strapped to the electric chair. Even if he somehow locates Burt on the outside, it won't be the man he fell in love with.
