Aaaaaaand all done.

Random We Were Here Bullshittery

Hopefully! Let me know if you spot any editing whoopsies. I'm pretty sure I've got them all. It's amazing how many times you can re-watch something and miss things like basic spelling errors.

So this one is somewhat different then the usual compilation formats of something like PUBG or CSGO, in that it was two different streams trimmed down and editing to look like a single game. With a start, middle and end. Therefore there were lots of establishing shots of things that wouldn't really be needed otherwise. This means the whole package is not as laugh a minute as the other format. But hopefully should still be enjoyable to watch. A bit like Alien: Isolation - a highly-edited Let's Play, featuring a cooperative puzzle game played by two idiots.

One of the struggles I had in getting this one right, was the audio. One of the first problems was that the radios in the game have the distinctive clicking sounds that indicate when transmissions stop or start. And it was often the case that Cyanide (or myself) would hold down the button an extra second longer then was needed. Which means a loss of control for the editor when it comes to determining the pace of the scene. So what I did was add these clicks on a separate audio track so I could tighten the audio to where I needed it to stop and start. For every single spoken sentence. A very tedious process I'm afraid.

I had the same problem with the in game radio icon. It would be displayed longer then the sentence would actually go on for, revealing my edit. To remedy this, I added my own radio icons with distinctive white or yellow lights to indicate which player is broadcasting. Along with background static, muffled high frequencies, and other radio oddities to make it sound more believable.

The third problem I had was that the edit appeared too 'skippy'. The nature of the fast cuts + background music + two different speaking audio sources, meant that it was really obvious to the casual observer that it had been heavily edited. So I purchased the in-game soundtrack. And carefully placed the relevant track over each scene in such a way that helps to make it sound more natural and coherent. The music fades in and out at the right times, so people won't notice the transitions.

Let me know what you think. I'll put the whole thing public tomorrow for christmas.

Thank you very much for your support this last year and I hope you all have a very merry christmas xx
