Answers please (Patreon)

I hate being the only one who doesn't know the inside story when everyone else seems to. Rainbow Dash had finished her swearing of the oath before Hurricane's Column in my Equestria dreamscape. In the process she'd made a statement that apparently had far greater importance. I had my suspicions that it had additional context, but I wanted answers.

      From the expression on her face Fluttershy seemed to know, so I set out to get some answer from her. I sauntered over and stood by side her.

      “Fluttershy. I think we need to talk. It's important!” I muttered out of the corner of my mouth.

       The Element of Kindness eyes remained fixed on the ceremony going on. She nodded her head and replied softly. “Um, uh, okay, but it is rather rude to leave until all of the contestants have been sworn in.”

      I looked around at the herd of ponies and realized I was going to have to cool my hooves for at least another hour or more. Great! I still hadn't gotten any breakfast and now I had indigestion!

      After what seemed like an eternity the ceremony ended and the crowd gathered began to disperse and break up into small groups. I saw Dash's parents leaving and was tempted to ask them for an explanation but something about Fluttershy's expression earlier told me this was perhaps not a topic that I really didn't want to bring up with them. Considering I'd only met them last night.

       Still as they exited the area I caught Squall Line's stare, for a couple seconds our eyes met then he just smiled and kept on walking with his wife. I turned and stared at a somewhat stressed Fluttershy.

      “You. Me. Talk. Somewhere private. Now”

       Okay it was a bit blunt but I wasn't taking no for an answer and I didn't want the rest of the Mane Six showing up before I had some clue of what was going on.

      Steering the chiffon yellow mare off into a side corridor that was unoccupied I asked the question that had been burning in me for the last hour.

      “Fluttershy what did Dash mean when she said I was a pony she wanted to fly close to?”

       “Oh well Sky Brush that saying has several meanings. Of course it could just, um, well mean that she likes flying close to you. That's all.” She gave me an unconvincing smile.

      “Yeah that is obvious, but the way everypony was acting, including you, there is apparently another meaning to her statement. What else can it mean?”

      Fluttershy hemmed and hawed for several seconds. “Well sometimes a pegasi will say that when they want be closer to another pegasi.”

      “What do you mean closer? She's my boss, I'm her wing pony of choice, we're good friends. I've got a hunch but I need to confirmation. What else can it mean?”

      “Well Sky Brush. A pegasi who is thinking about being ah, well, um, in a more intimate relationship with another pegasi might use that phrase sometimes.”

      “Sometimes? Just rarely or is it a common term? Please Fluttershy! I need some feedback from you before this whole thing explodes!”

       “Uh well it is a fairly common phrase! I heard it several times when I was in High School so um yeah fairly common. Most of the ponies who used were well, uh, very knowledgeable about each other.”

      “In a sexual fashion?” I was pretty certain I knew the answer but once again I needed confirmation. The yellow mare blushed a bit and then nodded her head.

      “Yes. That way.”

     “Horse Apples!” I muttered.
