Something about this movie just doesn't work for me. Like I heard all this stuff about how good it was then actually saw it and went "Wait that's it?" Maybe it's because I don't like it when horror movies are an overt metaphor for something or maybe it's because I've seen so much horror media with dark, cruel and bleak endings that I'm starting to stop caring. Like why bother getting attached to these characters? They're just going to suffer and fail.

I've always seen tragic endings as points for introspection not necessarily attachment. One recent series, Arcane (Season 1), ending is tragic because of all the wrong decisions the characters have made. If they all opened up and supported each other properly, none of it would have happened but it did. Everyone's reaction is understandable, but going beyond to reach out was the point for me and the ending hammered that theme in likewise with this film.
