Great reaction guys! An old movie, but still holds up very well. There are tons of people with better insight than me about this stuff, but here's my two cents. If Pear Harbor was going to be attacked, then being attacked in port was the best possible outcome. We salvaged nearly every single ship the Japanese "sunk" because they sunk in shallow water. If we had advanced warning and met the Japanese in deep water (which was the plan if the island was attacked) then there would have been no way to salvage the ships. The only luck we had that day was our carriers weren't there. They were out delivering planes to other bases.

Great reaction! Pearl Harbor is still one of my favorite movies despite all the hate it receives lol.

Do yourselves a favor, especially because you loved The Town, please watch The Departed. It is one of the greatest movies EVER created!!

The ship Queen Mary that Rafe and Evelyn spent the night on in the beginning is now an active hotel in San Diego and reported to be extremely haunted.

Jedi Mandalore (Dylan)

The film Tora! Tora! Tora! is a much better depiction of the events of Peral Harbor. They even had a Japanese crew and director film all the Japanese scenes while of course the American crew filmed everything else relating to the U.S side. So the film is very nonbiased for it's time and does a much better job at showing a more grounded take on the events over the more over the top action we see in this film.

Great reaction video! This movie is a fascinating case study into a foregone era of Hollywood and it's good to see that the current YouTuber reactions to this film are so different than the reactions back in 2001. This was the most hyped film of the summer - it was "Titanic meetings Saving Private Ryan" back when those 2 movies were still trendy, a 3 hour world war 2 movie dominating MTV. It had a record breaking opening weekend at the box office and then dropped fast. People were so disappointed with it, not because the film is so awful (its hate was overblown) but the moves MASSIVE advertising campaign barely touched on the romance which dominates the storyline - a lot of people complained about false advertising. Michael Bay and Ben Affleck's careers each took legitimate hits directly following release, Bay in particular became known as the "critically loathed explosion king" following this film, while the films reception was supposedly one of the reasons for Affleck's first stint in rehab for alcohol a few months after the film came out. On the other hand, Josh Hartnett (who played Danny in the movie) and Kate Beckinsale both saw their profiles grow greatly. Back in 2001, probably 90% of audiences preferred Danny to Rave - many felt Affleck/Rave was doing a poor Tom Cruise/Maverick impression and blamed his character for choosing to leave the girl in the first place and just expecting nobody to have moved on. Many also felt Hartnett was the better looking of the 2 - a subject heavily discussed in an infamous Vanity Fair cover story on Hartnett shortly after the film came out. Hartnett went from a former male model and teen-girl heart throb to a hugely famous and super popular actor seemingly overnight. He followed this film up with acclaimed starring turns in hits O, Black Hawk Down and 40 days and 40 nights over the following 9 months. At that point, he was the clear king of young Hollywood and was more in demand than Affleck - WB was pressuring him to be Chris Nolan's Batman and also offering him $100 million (in 2002 dollars!) to play Superman. He walked away from mainstream Hollywood not long after, its an interesting career arc. Beckinsale received the most critical acclaim for the film, and was routinely cited as the most impressive of the 3 leads dramatically. She was quickly offered what would become the extremely lucrative lead role in the Underworld series and was also cast in female leading roles in Stephen Sommers follow up the Mummy films "Van Helsing" and Martin Scoresee's The Aviator. Hollywood hasn't tried a film like this in a long, long time.
