Chapter 14 New Companion

They hit the Pokemon Mart to get supplies for their trip to Cerulean City. Ash got some Monster Balls, getting a ten pack for him and Toren, they got a Premier Ball x 2 as a reward. It was good to have a good stock of balls.

According to the map they’d be crossing between two routes and Mt. Moon.

Ash checked the Dex. Route 3 had Rattata and Spearow as Common, Ekans and Sandshrew as Uncommon, Mankey as Rare.

As they were about to leave Pewter City. “Wait!” The duo turned and saw Brock running towards them.

“Oh hey Brock!” Ash waved.

‘What’s he doing here?’ Toren wondered.

Brock was rocking a back pack, a rather sizable one. “I talked to my dad.” He had spent his morning after cleaning up, giving his dad a laundry list of things he’d have to take care of. “I want to go on a journey of my own. I’ve always wanted to be a Pokemon Breeder, and our match really inspired me.”

He had his Onix and his Geodude.

Ash smiled. “That’s great Brock!”

“I was wondering if it’d be alright if I traveled with you?” He asked, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.

Ash looked to Toren. “The more the merrier right?”

The greenette was a little shy and nervous. ‘It should be fine, as long as I have Ash and my Pokemon it’ll be fine.’ He took some calming breaths and he nodded.

Brock smiled. “Thanks, not to worry I have my own supplies,  I cook and I even make my own Pokemon food.”

Toren’s eyes widened. “Really?” The two began to chat about recipes for different pokemon types.

Ash could see their auras connecting and meshing nicely. Brock asked about the moves they used in their gym battles and the aura user broke it down. “All Pokemon are capable of mastering different moves, once a move is mastered it can’t be forgotten. A mastered move can be used in different ways.”

Ketchum was searching for new Pokemon in Route 3. He was using Weedle, some Spearow thought he was lunch, but quickly found that not to be the case.

Pikachu and Butterfree helped fill in Weedle on the kind of training he’d be doing to master his moves. Weedle was tough he wasn’t gonna back down even from an enemy flying type. He launched Poison Sting after Poison Sting, dropping Speed with String Shot.

Some Bug Catchers saw how tough Weedle was and wanted to battle.

There were lots of trainers on Route 3 all itching to battle and test their skills. A few of them had Rattata and Ekans, others had Pidgey and Sandshrew, and some had either Nidoran M or Nidoran F.

Toren got to train his master moves by battling trainers. Campers, Youngsters, Picknickers, and Bug Catchers. One trainer was named Kareem, he had a Bulbasaur. He called himself a Coach that specialized in Bulbasaur. He was unique he wanted to have the strongest Bulbasaur, so he wanted to battle other Bulbasaurs. Toren had Roots so the battle was on!

Ash watched their battle feeling so jealous. ‘Bulbasaur is so cool!’ He wanted one of his own.

Roots clashed with Kareem’s Bulbasaur and managed to win. “Saur!” Roots glowed and Toren’s eyes sparkled as he evolved into Ivysaur.

Ketchum pulled out his Pokedex.

Dexter: Ivysaur the Seed Pokemon, and the evolved form of Bulbasaur. The bud on its back grows by drawing energy. It gives off an aroma when it’s ready to bloom. Exposure to sunlight adds to it’s strength. Ivysaur’s legs have evolved to be more durable to support the growing flower on it’s back.

Ash got to battle with a Picknicker named Robin, she had a Nidoran Female. Since she was a Poison Type Ash had Weedle go nuts. Since his potential wasn’t unlocked yet, it took more time, but Weedle was putting in the work.

After several wild battles and a few trainer battles Weedle mastered Poison Sting. He felt the aura shift.

Since Ash beat Robin, she invited them to her Picnic for some lunch. All the mons were brought out to eat and recover. Her Nidoran tried to impress Jam and ran off to get a berry. “Ekans!” The snake monster lunged out to attack her.

“Niiii!”

“Pikachu use Extreme Speed!” Pikachu charged in and hit the poison type.

His tail rattled threateningly, intimidating Pikachu. “You got this Pikachu!” Ash cheered.

Ekans wrapped around him and gave him a firm squeeze. “Use Nuzzle!” His cheeks sparked and gave the snake a zap, which left him with Paralysis. He hissed. “Use Thundershock!”

“Kaaaans!” He dropped, unable to move.

“Monster Ball Go!” Ash threw the ball and it hit, sucking the Poison Type up.

Jiggle...Jiggle...Jiggle...Ping!

“Awesome I got Ekans!” The ball shrank down. “Aww man!”

He pushed the button on his Pokedex and sent the ball back to Oak. There Ekans could be treated.

Brock and Toren had a similar thought. ‘What does the Poison Rod look like?’ The two blushed.

“What’s up guys?” Their blushes grew.

“Nothing!” They said in unison.

“Oh thank you, you saved my Nidoran from that Ekans!” Robin was so grateful, she gave Ash a gift, a Moon Stone. She had gotten it from mount moon and was saving it. “I can always get another one.”

“Thanks!”

The group continued to travel Route 3, but before they got to Mt. Moon they came upon a Sandshrew. “That’s a Sandshrew!” Brock exclaimed.

Ketchum pulled out his Pokedex.

Dexter: Sandshrew the Mouse Pokemon. Sanshrew lives in holes it digs in dry places, emerging to hunt for food. It protects itself by curling into a ball. Loving to bathe in the grit of dry sandy areas.

“A ground type huh? Awesome!” He had Weedle battle it for some extra training.

Weedle tried to hit it with Poison Sting, but it kept digging and dodging it’s attacks. “Use String Shot!”

Once it popped out of the hole Weedle strung him up, dropping his speed. “Use Poison Sting*!” He launched the mastered move, his stinger glowing a deep purple.

Sandshrew tried to dig, but got hit first. It was good damage but with the mastered move it inflicted poison status on the Ground type.

“Monster Ball Go!” Ash threw the ball and it sucked him up.

Jiggle...Jiggle...Pop!

Sandshrew popped back out.

“Shoot so close!” It didn’t get far as the poison sapped his strength. Ash had Weedle use String Shot again, Sandshrew took some poison damage, he tried to Dig but Ash threw the ball again.

It hit before he could dive into the ground, the Ground mouse was sucked up and the ball began to jiggle. Ping!

“Alright, I got a Sandshrew!” His monsters cheered.

“Weedle Weedle Weed?” Suddenly Weedle glowed and began to grow into a Kakuna. He learned Harden. “Kuna!”

Ash had to send Sandshrew back to Oak, but promised they’d see each other soon.

Route 3 was quite productive, and they were ready to venture into Mr. Moon. Little did they know they’d be needing to prepare for trouble.
