Dragon Knight

After the Dragneel family was wiped out by Acnologia, the survivor Zeref spent many years finding a way to bring his brother back to life. He succeeded by reviving him as an Etherious, a fire demon. There was a concern Acnologia was too strong and was a threat to the world. So Zeref came up with a plan, he teamed up with the Fire Dragon King Igneel to create the first Dragon Knight.

Chapter 1

Acnologia was a scourge upon the land, gaining the titles of the Dragon of Darkness, and a Living Natural Disaster. He wiped out a small village that was the home of the Dragneel family. Zeref was the only survivor and he delved into magic to find a way to revive his brother.

He succeed but ended up being cursed. With his research he was able to revive his brother Natsu, creating the first Etherious demon. Etherious Natsu Dragneel, a Fire Demon. His work wasn’t done though, as he saw both Acnologia and himself as threats to the world.

So he made a deal with the Fire Dragon King, more of a proposal. To create a force capable of defeating Acnologia. Igneel had already proposed to other dragons to create Dragon Slayers, wielding magic that could harm a dragon. That was a good start, but Acnologia was a monster, and they would need someone to help lead them to victory.

“One with the spirit of a human, the body and curse power of a demon, and the power and might of a dragon.” Zeref’s plan was to have this new being lead both the dragon slayers and the demons to defeat Acnologia and bring him down. “The Dragon Knight!”

Igneel couldn’t help but laugh, give a dragon seed to a human and you’ll have a dragon slayer, but give it to a demon? Such a being hadn’t existed in the world before, they may very well create a new monster that’d bring the world to ruin or create a protector to bring down a monster that’s been threatening so much.

It was a gamble that Igneel was willing to take. Acnologia had already taken down some of the strongest dragons around, and with each of their defeats grown stronger. Zeref left Natsu to be raised by Igneel and meet other dragon slayers.

While the fire dragon king worked to teach Natsu the way of dragons, he also taught him about life, hoping to instill a moral spirit. To create a foundation to support the power he would one day wield. As the Fire Dragon King Igneel has battled and bested many fire dragons. He’s seen their abilities and knew them well.

The fire dragon would pass on this knowledge, making it so fire would be Natsu’s play thing. With his dragon seed he could eat and devour flames, and they would become a part of his aresenal. To ease Natsu’s burden, Zeref even used Archive magic to place the knowledge into the pages that made Natsu’s book END. The knowledge would slowly reveal itself to Natsu as he grew stronger.

It would also serve as a grimoire, where Natsu could be guided to learn more advanced spells. Info about his curse power could be found in there.

Using the Eclipse Gate, the dragon slayers were sent 400 years into the future, though they were not aware of it at the time. The dragons vanished, both to protect their young charges and regain strength from fights against Acnologia.

In that span of 400 years Zeref got to work preparing for the battle against the Dark Dragon. He created demons the Etherious Clan, with their unique curse powers, with the purpose of to protect Natsu, seeing him as their king/leader. The demons were tasked with either finding Natsu’s book or him.

Thanks to his own curse he brought death the more he loved life. So he hoped after Natsu defeated Acnologia he could destroy him as well.

Two of Zeref’s demons found Natsu in the future. Jackal and Tempester, the Demon of Explosions and the Demon of Calamity. They served as Natsu’s vassals.

The trio ended up at a Wizard Guild Fairy Tail. With their curse powers Jackal and Tempester were able to pass themselves off as wizards. They decided to keep their demon blood a secret. Natsu was able to learn a lot from the wizards, learning about humans and their customs, learning magic, and learning about himself.

Igneel had given him some basics about human society, but he could only teach him so much. Dragneel got the birds and the bees talk from a dragon’s perspective so he knew about mating. He also learned about money and treasure, he wanted to have his own Dragon’s Horde one day. Fairy Tail continued his education.

There was another fire wizard in the guild, Macao who used Purple Flare. Upon eating it, Dragneel was able to replicate it. Makarov tried to give him grimoires on the other fire magics but Natsu struggled learning them for some reason, but Purple Flare seemed to work for him.

He read all sorts of tombs but wasn’t able to conjure the flames. Not to be bummed out, he focused on the flames he could use. Purple Flare was an easily mold able flame so he used it to craft weapons in combat. A part of his rivalry with Gray, who was a maker wizard of the ice element.

Jackal and Tempester formed a Team with Natsu, aiding in his growing horde. With them on his side he was able to take on all sorts of quests. In the early years he struggled to pull his weight, but gave it his all They spared with their master and helped push him into getting stronger and stronger. As they were very durable demons, they could take a lot, so Natsu could go out on them and push his limits. He developed new techniques, and gained fierce combat experience.

Demons struggled to hold back, so their training sessions could be horrifying. It was experience that would push Natsu to another level in combat. Not that Natsu was one to talk with holding back, he tended to go crazy on quests and causing collateral damage. A habit not shaken by Tempester or Jackal who wrecked stuff easily. They got the job done, but Makarov got a ton of complaints about Team Natsu aka the Trio de Danger, Disaster’s Triangle, and Salamander of Calamity!

Jackal and Tempester had always turned down the S-Class Trials. In the year 778 Laxus passed the trial, becoming the guild’s second S-Class Wizard. In the year of 779 despite some promising entries no one passed the exam. In 780 Erza Scarlet passed the exam, later in 781 Mirajane passed. Then came Mystogan in and became S-Class in 782.

Now it was 783, and Natsu got nominated for the exam. “This years candidates will be Cana Alberona!” The guild cheered for her, this was her sixth try. “Alzack Connell!”

“Me!?” Alzack gasped. He blushed and rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, as his fellow guild mates cheered for him.

Gray was hoping for his chance, he thought this would be his year. He even made a deal with Loke to work together to become S-Class.

“Natsu Dragneel!”

“Yes!” Tempester and Jackal cheered. Natsu smirked. That was it, normally there would be more, but both Gildarts and Mystogan were away on missions, and Mirajane was out of sorts with the death of her sister. So only Erza and Laxus were available for this years exam.

“Aww man, come on!” Gray groaned. “How’d he get on the roster this year!”

“What’d you say?!” Natsu and Gray started to scrap. Gray launching ice weapons at Natsu only for Dragneel to counter with purple flame weapons.

“Now Gray, Natsu has a lot of missions under his belt, he beat you out this year by ten. He’s also improved his magic greatly.” Makarov said, stroking his mustache wisely. Loke patted Gray’s shoulder.

“Maybe next year.”

“Slim pickings this year old man, these three aren’t ready for S-Class.” Laxus said. “Looks like no one is passing the exam this year!” He laughed.

“Just you wait Laxus, I’ll show you how strong I’ve become, this year I’m becoming S-Class!” Natsu declared.

“Can it runt, you’ve only been on so many missions because you’ve had those two helping you. Even if they are strong they are still weaker than me, and you’re even weaker than them. You have no chance of passing!” Jackal and Tempester glared at him.

“You wanna fight!” Jackal growled, releasing small explosions in his hand.

“If you want to insult Natsu-sama we’ll teach you a lesson!” A vicious wind swirled around Tempester blowing tables and chairs over. They normally let Natsu fight his own battles, but Laxus was older and stronger. The urge to protect was strong.

Laxus sparked with electricity. “Bring it!” The blonde didn’t know who he was messing with, not really, Jackal and Tempester held back, not using their demon forms. So he’s never faced them 100%.

“Enough!” Makarov broke up the fight. “My decision is final, we’ll be having three participants this year, you may choose one other wizard to assist in the trial.”

This caused a fight to break out between Tempester and Jackal over who would assist Natsu. Alzack wanted to ask Bisca to be his partner, but Cana got to her first. He ended up choosing Max as his partner.

“Don’t get cocky Natsu, once we are on the island it’s me who decides your fate. You aren’t strong enough to be S-Class!” Laxus vanished in a bolt of lightning. Natsu wasn’t shaken, he was ready to show what he was made of.
