Hope and Will

When things seemed darkest, Nightwing had hope, even when things didn’t work out with Batman, when Wally left the team, when the villains continued to work together to cause problems. Nightwing kept his spirits high, leading the team, and being a guiding light for them. It was no surprise when he was chosen by the Blue Lantern Core. By a wild turn of events as a Blue Lantern Ring chooses him so does a Green. Together Nightwing is able to unite the powers and fully utilize the Blue powers.

Chapter 1

According to the Green Lantern Corps, Earth was a very unique place. Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner, three humans all chosen by Green Lantern Rings. There were others but were turned down. So if someone else became worthy of the Green Lantern Ring it wouldn’t surprise any of the guardians. Many of Earth’s heroes had strong wills and would serve as mighty Green Lanterns, but for one reason or another declined.

Joining the Green Lantern Corps came with rules and responsibilities. The Guardians made all sorts of treaties, which made it so there were non aggression acts against certain parties. The Green Lanterns were also stretched thin, having to patrol sections of the galaxies.

Then there was the Blue Lantern Corp, instead of Will they harnessed the power of Hope. When aiding and supporting a Green Lantern their powers are fully unleashed. They didn’t reach out very often and didn’t adhere to the Green Lantern treaties.

Recently they did reach out to a human from Earth. One of the Blue Rings sensed a strong spirit of hope. Nightwing aka Dick Grayson, a former Robin, and current leader of the Young Justice team. He has faced many trials and never lost hope.

The fact Nightwing was leading the team, having experienced loss but kept hope for a brighter future in his heart. He was giving new and young heroes training so they wouldn’t experience the same loss as he had. Jason and Tula had given their lives for the mission, which pushed Nightwing to clash with Batman about how far they had to go for the mission.

He wasn’t Batman. Keeping them safe and providing for their future was Nightwing’s goal, while preparing them for the enemies they’d have to face. It was his hope the others wouldn’t have to lose their friends, and have each other’s backs.

It was a high honor even the other Green Lanterns from earth were surprised. The Blue Lantern’s Guardian, even offered to allow Nightwing Earth under this sector, since there was no Blue Lantern in the area. It was quite the appealing offer. Nightwing accepted, he took the Blue ring and blue energy washed over him, and their crest appeared on his back, and then something phenomenal occurred. One of the dormant rings on Oa lit up and went to Earth. Without warning it joined Nightwing as well, slipping onto his other hand.

Blue and Green light swirled together as the lantern crests fused on his back. The Guardians arrived quickly, to try and understand what just happened and how to deal with it. Apparently this ring had never had a master before, and had Dick Grayson been reached out to by the Guardians this ring would have been his. Since he accepted the Blue Ring, it caused a pull awakening this ring and calling it forth.

There was no denying the ring had chosen Nightwing, and he was worthy so the Guardians weren’t gonna take it from him. The problem was the corps, Nightwing didn’t want to join the Green Lantern Corp, and the Blue had already agreed to let him stay on Earth and protect it. It was hard for the Guardians to lay claim on him since the mark on his back was a fusion of both.

No one had dual wielded rings before, and it sparked some debate. “If it’s alright with you, I’d like to stay on Earth, as my own agent.” Was Nightwing’s suggestion. The Guardians were annoyed but, a member of the Blue Lantern Corp suggested this would be for the best as since this was an unprecedented event Nightwing was a wild card.

The Guardians had enough “wild cards” in their ranks and while helpful often led to headaches. While the Blue Corp saw Nightwing as a potential beacon of hope for the universe.

With Hope needing Will to draw out its abilities having this hybrid was a game changer for both corps. After some back and forth it was decided Nightwing would remain on Earth under the supervision of the Green Lantern Corp, but he would not need to be affiliated with them.

He’d be seen as a member of the Blue Lantern Corp, and be excluded from all treaties with Oa. This gave some protection as Nightwing would be seen as a Neutral third party, in case certain groups tried to abuse the terms of these agreements.

As the Blue Ring he could recharge his Green without needing a Green Lantern Battery, but he was given a Blue Battery. “In fearful day, in raging night, With strong hearts full, our souls ignite, When all seems lost in the War of Light, Look to the stars...For Hope Burns Bright!” Nightwing took the oath and the first Lantern Ring Hybrid was forged.

He’d receive lantern training from the Green Lanterns on Earth, to get the basics on constructs. The rings also had tutorials to help understand their powers. It was also implied that they’d want Nightwing to find potential ring holders. The universe was a big place, and it needed protecting more lanterns. His Blue Lantern Ring also had other powers such as healing.

Savage didn’t think much of the Green Lantern Corp, their traditions make them far less of a threat then they could be. He found out about the Blue Lantern Corp reaching out to Nightwing. ‘This could be a problem.’ They were more of a mystery and often didn’t interact with many worlds so his information on them is limited.

He already had made a deal with Darkseid, perhaps it was time to reach out to the more sinister lantern corps for assistance. A lantern hybrid was a wild card he wished to have removed from the deck.

Using the rings Nightwing made training a lot more interesting, he could build all sorts of constructs for them to fight. He could also use the Blue Ring to heal, not only healing wounds but also restoring stamina. Two years of training made him quite the skilled lantern.

With Dick’s creativity he was able to do some things that even advanced lanterns had yet to learn or master. Using the green ring he can bend light around him to turn invisible, with enemies using cloaking tech it was a good equalizer and helpful given his Batman training. By using both rings he found he could even phase through solid objects. He could even make energy doubles to assist with training, Nightwing could even infuse his consciousness into the doubles.

Nightwing moved to Mount Justice and was acting Den Mother to the Team.

The Team has grown over the years, Tim Drake was the third Robin, they had lost Jason some time before. Jaime Reyes aka Blue Beetle joined the team even if his scarab disagreed. Garth aka Tempest and La’gaan aka Lagoon Boy joined the team, and remained even after the death of Aquagirl.

Batgirl, Wonder Girl, Bumblebee, were on the team while Rocket and Zatanna left to join the League. Superboy and Miss Martian remained on the team but were no longer dating.

Superboy confided in Nightwing about Megan abusing her powers. The female martian could crush someone’s mind just by probing it. She had sent villains to the hospital rather than prison. The scary thing is she was good at covering her tracks, but when she tried to mess with Conner’s head she crossed a line.

Not everyone was living at Mount Justice but quite a few. For those staying Nightwing prepared morning training exercises. If the others were free they’d arrive for the drills.

Energy beings moved about a large maze. “Oden’s beard why do we have to do these tests.” Lagoon Boy grumbled, as he and Tempest ran through the corridors.

“It helps keep our skills sharp and shows how we can work together as teams.” Tempest erected a barrier of water as the blue vestiges found them and started firing.

“I think Nightwing just gets a kick out of messing with us.” He got zapped as vestiges circled around and started firing on him.

“Well if you ever wanna end up on alpha squad you better start pulling your weight guppy.” Tempest teased.

Lagoon boy growled, before hulking out and attacking the vestiges.

Elsewhere…

Tim, Beast Boy, and Blue Beetle were together and fending off vestiges along with Batgirl and Wonder Girl. “Glad you guys could make it.” Beast Boy said, charging like a rhino, he knocked the energy beings around.

“Says the dude who was ran late.” Blue Beetle said, firing energy blasts at the vestiges.

“You live here, how are you always late for practice.” Tim asked, fighting off the beings with a staff.

“He was probably up all night playing video games.” Wonder Girl said with a chuckle.

“No! I was...um…” Beast Boy blushed remembering what he was actually doing. ‘Ohh Nightwing...you are so hot...oh fuck… fuck me...yeah...fuck my ass...make me your bitch...breed me...breed me!’ He was jerking off and fingering his ass, thinking of all the naughty stuff their sexy leader could do to him.

Some Vestiges jumped him, zapping him out of his horny memory. “Watch your back Beast Boy!” Jaime came in and blasted the vestiges away.

“Thanks dude!” Beast Boy transformed back. Jaime eye him.

“Dude...you’re naked…” Garfield looked down and gasped, quickly covering himself as the girls giggled at him.

“Waaahh!” He had been in a rush and forgot to put on anything. He sleeps naked, so…

Beast Boy scrambled to find some pants as the training session ended. “Nice work everyone.” He walked over to Beast Boy and patted his shoulder. “You got nothing to be ashamed of, there is nothing wrong with nudity. You are like the entire animal kingdom.”

His heart fluttered. ‘He gets me!’ Nightwing goes over the results of their training, and uses blue energy to restore stamina and heal any injury. He began to assign teams.

Dick put Superboy, Beast Boy, Red Robin, Blue Beetle, and Miss Martian on Delta Squad on a mission to deal with Clayface who escaped from Arkham. Lagoon Boy is upset that he didn’t even make it on a squad. “You need more training, you’ll be sparring with me today.”

Tempest gave La’gaan an “I told you so” look and patted his shoulder. He was placed on Alpha Squad along with Bumblebee, Batgirl, and Wonder Girl. “Odin’s beard!”

Superboy wasn’t exactly happy being on a squad with Miss Martian. “Hey…” Nightwing approached him.

“Hey…” Superboy faced him. A silent question hanging in the air.

“I know you aren’t happy. I need you to keep an eye on her, to make sure.”

“I know…” He frowned. Nightwing pulled Superboy close. “Mmm~!” The two kissed.

“Better?” Superboy blushed.

“One more!” Nightwing chuckled and the two made out for a bit.
