Chapter 18 

Chapter 19 Allies and Dungeon

“Ichigo-kun can you do something about using my shop as a meeting place?” Urahara asked.

“What can I do? It’s not like I have a base or anything.” Ichigo gave Urahara some money. “Will this be enough to rent the place so we can finish our business here?”

Kisuke sighed. “I’m only teasing you boy, but you do actually need to find a safe place you can relax.”

Jinta had brought along some friends, and it was making Ichigo nervous. Not because of who they were, just a few times he was met by a group of knights, led to trouble. Still...this group didn’t seem like your regular knights.

“Allow me to introduce everyone!” Jinta said.

“These are the twins' Ho and Ban!” The twins gave a bow, they were wearing matching robes. Ho had a mage staff with a red orb and Ban had a staff with a white orb. Their hairstyles were slightly different, Ban having chin-length hair, while Ho had short hair.

“We both have the water affinity,” Ho said.

“But Ho excels at Defensive Magic, while I excel at Offensive Magic,” Ban said.

“We can also summon a water spirit when we are together.”

“This is Wonderweiss.” He introduced the blonde with purple eyes. He nodded. “He, doesn’t say much, he’s a demi-human and he’s an exceptional brawler.” Wonderweiss nodded again.

“I can fight!” He declared. He wears two bracelets that grant him Fire and Wind affinity. He was actually a turtle demi-human, he had a small shell on his back. He was a bit slow, but he was a strong fighter.

“Me next!” a young man bounds forward. “I’m Yushiro! Nice to meet you Ichigo!” He jumps at Ichigo to hug him and gets blocked by Grimmjow and Renji. “Oh wow you guys are hot too!” he said making the two sweatdrops.

“This is Yushiro, he’s the little brother of Lady Yoruichi,” Jinta said. “He can be a bit cuddly. He’s actually a unique class, he’s a shaman.”

“I can buff my allies and debuff my enemies.” He smiled. “I can also do this!” He pointed at a suit of armor. “Arise and serve me!” A talisman appeared on the armor and the suit of armor came to life.

“Whoa!”

“Cool!” Toshiro cheered.

“I can bring motion to the motionless, but I can only control three totems at a time.” A handy ability to be sure. Ichigo had a feeling her brother was the thing Yoruichi forgot about. “I’m sorry for being so friendly, but you saved our home village from the waves.”

“We all come from Lute Village. You protected our home, our families, and our friends. We want to fight with you, so please accept us.” Jinta said. He offered Ichigo the money he requested for the accessory.

“Very well,” He gives Jinta the accessory but doesn’t take the money. “Use that money to buy yourselves better equipment. You better not slow us down.” Surprise and joy filled the room.

His party looked at Ichigo in awe. “You have a soft side, don’tcha kid.” Kisuke chuckled.

“No way!” Ichigo huffed. A menu popped up, and Ichigo registered the team as a part of his squad. Squad members will be transported during the waves. Renji was happy Ichigo accepted them, they didn’t seem like others and even treated the demi-human in their party really well. “We don’t have a lot of time before the next wave hits. So we are gonna tackle everything at once. Renji needs practice with his new form, and I wanna get the evolution seeds for Rose, so Renji, Rose, Toshiro, and myself will go to the dungeon and explore it.”

“Tch!” Grimmjow huffed. Ichigo patted his back.

“I know you want to come, but I need you and Komamura for an important mission.” He points at their squad. “You and Sajin will work with these guys and get them fighting fit for the waves.” Grimmjow still looked annoyed that he wasn’t going. Ichigo had his reasons Grimmjow still needed to recover from the effects of the curse, Renji’s evolution had purged him and got him back to full strength. “Grimmjow, I need you to do this. For me!” Renji was a good at technique but Grimmjow was good at fighting like a monster.

“I’ll do it!” He said happily, before looking sinister at the Squad. “Prepare yourselves brats!” He said cracking his knuckles.

“Grimmjow….try not to kill them…” Renji said.

Ichigo patted Grimmjow’s head. “We’ll explore a dungeon together after the waves.” Head pats were nice!

Kisuke promised to get the squad a good discount. Grimmjow would work on combat training, Sajin would work on magic training.

Ichigo looked up dungeons with his icon magic. “Dungeons were created by ancient architects, they used them as a way of trapping and containing monsters. The dungeons create a special field keeping the monsters contained and allowing them to respawn after some time. Treasures will manifest in the dungeon every five floors. It says you can find rare treasures on every tenth floor.” Supposedly the dungeons later served as monster traps, as they created an aura that drew lesser monsters inside and trapped them creating a floor for each kind of monster. The stronger monsters getting placed on a “boss monster” floor.

“Where do the treasures come from?”

“Hmm,” he checked. “It says they are tokens of the world?” That was very vague.

“If you guys are doing dungeon crawling you should see my sister before you go. There are special spells you can use that make dungeon visits easier.”

“That’s a good idea. Thanks, Yushiro!” The boy was giddy.

“Thank you for the praise, please reward me with a kiss!” He jumped at Ichigo again. Renji knocked him out.

“Stop that!” The Nue snapped.

“Oh, you need lots of training brat!” Grimmjow chuckled. Renji handed him over to the bluenette. “I’m gonna have fun, “training” you!”

“It’ll be fine,” Sajin promised.

Ichigo, Renji, Toshiro, and Rose went to Yoruichi. “Oh Ichigo, I just remembered, my brother and his friends wanted to join you. I have to warn you, my brother can be quite the handful. He just can’t help himself from jumping after handsome men. I don’t know where he gets it from…”

“Right...we’ve met...I took them on as my squad.”

“Aren’t you growing a fine harem?”

“Stop!” Ichigo groaned.

“Hey, Yoruichi-san!” She looked at Renji.

“Oh my goodness, Renji-kun you got your class up. Don’t you look big and strong?”

“Haha, thank you.”

“We are looking to explore a dungeon, your brother said there are specific spells that’ll help.”

“Oh yes, in fact, there is a class of magic made exclusively for dungeon explorers. It’s not the most popular of magic as it only works within the unique fields of dungeons.”

“Whatever works, we don’t want any surprises.”

“First dungeon then, then I’ll give you the basics.” She brought out a couple of scrolls. “This one will help you the Magic Map skill, it’ll help you keep track of your place in the dungeon. It’ll reset if you enter a different dungeon.”

“Next is the Magic Stairs, this one will allow you to change floors, but it has a recharge, so if you go deeper into the dungeon with it and run into trouble you won’t be able to escape right away.”

“Last is the Magic Escape, this is a long cast time, it takes 24 hours to recharge. So be careful how you use it. All newbies at least get one of these, adventurers who don’t even get this one can wind up dead.”

‘Magic in scrolls, useful only in the dungeons. Interesting!’ Ichigo paused. ‘Was she planning to lead me into the dungeon and leave me in there to die?’ Though he couldn’t prove it, that indeed was one of her plans. Had the heroes not been staying at the same inn, allowing her to frame him, she had in fact planned to leave Ichigo stranded on a difficult floor. She’d escape, and since they weren’t registered as a party if she used the scroll, only she would escape.

“Ichigo-sama?” His aura was an angry red.

“Sorry, I’m fine.” He paid for the scrolls and off they went.

Toshiro had to revert to dragon form and carry Rose on his back as they went. He could still use magic and breath attacks, so strategically he was the best fit. Rose was happy because he was gonna get to fight.

Ichigo looked up what he needed to help Rose evolve. These special seeds could trigger a mutation of sorts. ‘He’d still be bound by a level cap but he’d be more like Toshiro gaining a humanoid form or something. I guess these seeds would be OP if they could just evolve monsters without ANY limitations.’ As long as Rose can move it’d be worth it.

The way he looked at it, it’d be similar to Toshiro’s human transformation. He didn’t need a class up to take human form, he simply evolved naturally. It raised further questions but for now, he’d focus on the task at hand.

Plus Toshiro can practice using his Wyvern Talons and Renji can practice fighting in his new form. Ichigo stared at Renji admiring his beauty. “Is something wrong Ichigo-sama?”

“No...no...it’s nothing!” He blushed. Ichigo couldn’t believe he was checking Renji out like that.

They entered the dungeon, and Ichigo noticed many of the spawns were similar to monsters in the surrounding area. Balloons, Usapills, the little mushroom monsters, and so on.

“Leave them to me, Ichigo-sama!” Renji charged in and he fought like a beast. “Red Palm Set!” The palms of his hands gave off a red light and with one powerful strike, he did both physical and elemental damage.

“Wow!”

He had no blind spots now, with Zabimaru as his tail. “Snake Strike!” Zabimaru lashed out biting monsters and injecting them with a powerful poison.

They found a few chests with some pretty rare stones in them. ‘I can make some good accessories from these!’ Ichigo thought. The magic map identified them as a green dot, monsters were red dots, and treasure spots were blue dots.

Making it to the Fifth Floor was easy. The “boss” monster of this floor was something called a General Skeleton. It looked like a more powerful version of the monsters they fought in their first wave. “Careful Renji, this guy has high fire resistance!” Fire, physical attack, and status effect resistance.

“Damn!” Renji drew his sword. Ichigo changed his Shield to the Purification Shield.

“Master we can help!” Toshiro said.

“Yes, leave it to us!” Rose said.

“Right, Renji back them up on this one!”

“Alright!” Toshiro charged in, with Rose on his back.

The General Skeleton swung his sword, but Toshiro was able to kick his sword back, with his wyvern talons. The General didn’t hesitate to swing at them with his massive shield.

“Air Strike Shield!” Ichigo cast blocking it.

“Snake Ivy!” Rose fired vines out and wrapped up the General. His new skill he got from eating plant food. It wasn’t working the best against, but Ichigo could see how well it’d be against a living opponent. It tried to get away by backing up.

Toshiro’s eyes glint. He used his frost breath to freeze the floor. The general slipped on the ice and fell backward. “Hiyyahhh!” Renji came down and stabbed him right through the giant skull.

Even that wasn’t enough to kill it. The General thrashed on the ground trying to get back up. Ichigo was ready, he busted out some of the holy water he made and hit the General dead on. The creature howled as its body was reduced to ash.

“Nice work guys!” His shield pulsed.

“Hmm? Unique Skill: Undead Hunter: This skill is shared between the party. Damage against Undead Monsters is increased by 5%!” Ichigo gasped. ‘So is this what they meant by rewards for clearing boss floors?’ The Skill was low level but could evolve into Undead Killer which offered a 25% boost on undead monsters, and Undead Slayer which granted a 50% boost. It could also be added to his shield skills, so when wearing Purification Shield he could dish out 10% more damage to undead.

“Nice, I think after the wave we’ll explore more dungeons like this.”

“Yay!” Toshiro cheered. Renji nodded and Rose did a little plant dance.

They descended to the floors below, where stronger monsters were found. Goblins, Imps, Grudge Gators, Two-Headed Dogs. These monsters were not only stronger but more intelligent.

The Goblins used sneak attacks and tried to overwhelm Ichigo’s party with numbers. They also used poison-laced weapons. If they didn’t have magic or were low level this would have been a problem. Renji scorched them with fire magic, Toshiro froze them with ice magic, and Rose caught them with his Parasite Seed skills and Poison Breath melted them down to the bones. With Ichigo acting as a defense buffer keeping them safe from any sneak attacks and fending off attacks from the rear.

Their drops were more impressive. Ichigo unlocked the Goblin Shield: Nightvision Skill, Shield Skill: Shadow Mask – At night it allowed the user to become hidden by shadows.

Goblin Shield 2: Shadow Cover: At night can mask individuals in darkness hiding their presence. Damage from goblin monsters reduced by 5%

As for the Imps they were larger and more tricky. These things like keeping their distance and use magic to try and crush their opponents. Their magic varied from fire to lightning, the green imps using lightning while the pink imps used fire. Ichigo was the biggest help, he brought out his magic resistance shield and kept blocking their attacks. Once their MP was drained Toshiro and Renji went in for the kill.

Ichigo fed the remains to his shield while collecting their horns. Green Imp Shield: Lightning Resistance (Small) Shield Skill: Lightning Rod: When worn will draw lightning and electric attacks to user. Pink Imp Shield: Fire Resistance (Medium) Shield Skill: Heat Candle: When worn will draw fire and heat attacks towards the user.

The Imps proved difficult to explore the whole floor so Ichigo used the Magic Stair Scroll and they descended lower. Ichigo made a mental note to explore with their full party.

As for the Grudge Gators, what they lacked in Intelligence, they made up for in speed, power, and ferocity. They even packed a toxic mist attack that probably would have killed any newbies. Thanks to Rose he could suck out all the poison from the air and neutralized it.

Renji and Toshiro made quick work of them. The Gators had a severe weakness to ice so that made things easier. Ichigo fed the corpses to his shield and his heart fluttered as he got something he’s been wanting for a while. An Offensive Shield!

Gator Shield 1: ATK + 10, SPD + 5 Unique Skill: Razor Wheel: It allowed the shield to spin like a saw allowing for a slash attack.

Gator Shield 2: ATK + 10 SPD + 7 DEF + 5, Can use Razor Wheel Skill, at twice the power. Gator Wheel: Can launch a flying disk attack that can slice through enemies.

Ichigo tried it out, it was similar to his Air Strike Shield, with similar energy. The green wheel was large closeup and got smaller the further it went out. It cost some points but if Ichigo mastered it the cost would be cut in half. He tried it out and was able to wipe out a whole bunch of gators with it.

“Master is amazing!” Toshiro gasped.

“Yeah…” Renji said. He looked down about it though.

“What’s wrong Renji?”

“It’s just...we attack, you defend, now that you can attack...you won’t need us anymore…” Renji said.

“Ahh, I see….” Ichigo went over to Renji. “I’m always gonna need you.” He hugged the nue. “Renji, I love you!” The red head blushed. “I know how things started, but I couldn’t imagine being in this world without you. You Renji, Grimmjow, Sajin, Toshiro, Rose, I love you guys. Now I’m just able to protect you guys more!”

“I’m sorry for doubting you.”

“No worries, but let me make this promise to you.” Ichigo kissed Renji. His eyes widened, and his heart skipped a beat. “Sealed with a kiss!” Renji’s whole face got red.

“Hey, no fair!” Toshiro pouted.

Ichigo patted his head. “It’s fair. The moment has to be right, understand?”

“Okay!” Renji was still riding high on their kiss. “Come on Big Bro Renji!” Toshiro had to nudge him along. Yeah, he was jealous, but there was an order to things, courting, bonding, mating!

Ichigo wasn’t kidding. When all this started, he just wanted to survive and go home. Now...things were very different…

The next floor was possibly hell for Renji, it was full of those two-headed dog monsters. The Nue took them out personally, using a combination of martial arts, fire magic, and swordplay. It was very therapeutic.

Ichigo unlocked Two-Headed Black Dog Shield 2: Twin Bark Skill: Scares away weak monsters, can make enemies flinch. Dog Fang Skill: Increases the Power of the Dog Bite Skill.

Though...what was on the next floor wasn’t so kind…
