Chapter 9 Burning Passion

Ash wanted to bond with Snivy, but with Iris around he couldn’t. He just couldn’t trust her. They were able to channel it into training Ash and Snivy versus Cress and Panpour.

Pikachu was working with Tepig to hone his speed, while Oshawott and Summer were clashing.

Iris got bored watching them “play around” so went to find some food for herself.

Chili kept practicing trying to master the Counter Shield, but it kept ending with Pansear getting dizzy. ‘Why can’t I do it!?’ The red head was feeling frustrated.

Even Pansear was getting frustrated. “We have to get stronger!”

“Pan!”

He was getting frustrated. He had Pansear do it again, only for him to get dizzy and end up blasting Chili in the face. “Hey! Pansear be serious!”

“Sear sear sear!” The fire monkey snapped back.

“I know this isn’t our usual style, but we keep losing, at this rate we’ll never become a proper gym.”

“Chili?” He turned and saw Ash and Snivy.

“You know there are other ways of using contest moves.”

“Don’t feel bad, I also kinda ignored the potential of contest moves. Back in Hoenn, my Treecko had discovered a way to increase the power of his Pound, had I been more open to contests I may have realized and adjusted my training and done better in the Hoenn League.”

“Really?!” Ash nodded.

“My Chimchar was able to use Counter Shield with Flamethrower, but maybe for Pansear it’s different. If Counter Shield isn’t viable there’s the Spin Move!” Ash patted Pansear’s head. “I know Pansear has a lot of potential!”

Pansear blushed at the praise. He couldn’t help but smolder at Ash’s touch.

“Let’s do some special training.” Ash believed that they’d be able to find their own style, they didn’t need to force it to be like someone else.

Snivy was a natural contest mon, picking up on the basics of the Spin Dodge and the Counter Shield. He was able to show off the Spin Attack as well, using Vine Whip and a spin he was able to increase the power, and even tripped Pansear. The move wasn’t very effective, but with the spin they were able to trip the fire monkey up, breaking his momentum and allowing Snivy another chance to land a hit.

“You try it with Fire Punch, I’m sure you can make it work!”

“We can do it, right Pansear?”

They got to train a bit, but sadly it was time to eat. Breaks were important and training on an empty stomach was a bad idea.

Summer had been working hard, using Magical Leaf to form his Counter Shield, and his Spin Dodge was vertical like a summer salt. “Beat that otter!”

Oshawott grumbled, with their rivalry they were two for two. “Now now, those two contest moves are just the tip of the contest path. There are combinations to figure out as well.”

“Combinations?” Chili wondered.

“A combination can be done either by one pokemon using two moves in succession to boost their power and appeal, sometimes creating something new, or by two pokemon!” Cress explained.

“Yeah, like my Buizel’s Ice Aqua Jet!”

“That sounds interesting.” Cilan pointed out.

Ash patted Oshawott’s head. “I think it’ll be a good combo move for you!” Oshawott’s eyes sparkled.

“Yay!”

“Good he’ll need all the help he can get.”

“Oi!” The two started glaring at each other.

“Hm?” Snivy noticed two Pokemon trying to make off with their food. “Thieves!”

“Maka!” The two fire types were caught red handed.

“Darumaka!” Chili gasped, his eyes sparkling.

Dexter: Darumaka the Zen Charm Pokemon a Fire Type. When its internal fire is burning, it cannot calm down and it runs around, when the fires cool it can finally rest. When it sleeps, it pulls its limbs into its body.

Their brother absolutely loved Fire type Pokemon. “Pansear, let’s catch one!”

One of the Darumaka handed over the food to the other and it ran away as the other stood and fought. “Daru daru!” It ran off fast.

“We aren’t letting this one get away, Pansear use Flamethrower!”

“Maka!” He countered with his own Flamethrower.

Ash touched Darumaka and let his his aura flow so he could hear his voice. “You can understand me?” Ketchum nodded. “Then please...WE NEED YOUR HELP!”

Darumaka told him what was happening, the town’s clock tower had become run down and it’s giant bell was gonna collapse. Darmanitan was holding it up. The other Darumaka were stealing food to help keep up his energy.

With a united effort they were able to help repair the bell hook and get it back in place. Everyone gave it their all, Ash even extended his aura causing Darmanitan to awaken and give the final push. “Thank you!”

Ash smiled. “We were happy to help. This Clock Tower is your home right?” They nodded. “Let’s finish this, the job isn’t done!”

The clock tower was gonna be demolished because it had fallen into disrepair. Working together the quartet and their Pokemon helped revitalize the Clock Tower. It was hard work, but Ash’s determination was contagious, and it was good experience for the Pokemon.

Ash used his aura to help repair the wood, fixing the bones and supports of the tower.

They informed Nurse Joy of what happened and she apologized to the Pokemon. “We won’t demolish your home, and we’ll help make sure its well maintained.” No one knew the fire types had moved into the old clock tower, but now they could go back to living side by side.

Chili’s Darumaka got to say goodbye to its friends and brothers. Darmanitan approved of the trainer he had and wished him well. Chili had worked hard beside Ash to help fix up their home.
