Don't worry luke (for once), the way they phrased that Lelei "kinda maybe passed but not really" wasn't clear at all. No wonder you misunderstood. Anyway it's actually the first time I go so far in the anime, I much prefered the manga and continued the story there back then. The battle in the Jade palace in particular is way more brutal in the manga, those young girls and old men defended the palace despite a complete slaughter, I remember in particular the girl commander with short hair being hurt all over with bandages and blood. Pretty impressive performance for a "fake/ceremonial" order, initially created to look good. Here in the anime it felt very unnatural how despite being reduced to a small number you couldn't really see anyone injured or with a missing arm.

I don't remember that final scene in the manga, so I assume it's a filler to create a kinda "ending" for the anime. In the manga (and I assume in the original light novel) the story continues about the origins of the "gate", why it opens, how long, and what about the gods of this world.

The anime changed a bunch of stuff for it's ending because the manga is on going and the light novel sort of spreads into conflict with Japan and China in later novels. We'll never get a 3rd season due to problems it will portray for international relationships. Also Pina doesn't become the next ruler, in the source material. Her country men betray her so she decides to run away to Alnus as she rejects the empire. Which starts off the second half of novels. The Emperor never makes a decree either. Again lots of things were changed in the anime.

Every language produces an accent in every other language, since every language uses your mouth and sounds differently, and that's reflected in how you speak foreign languages. So there'd absolutely be a 'french accent' in Japanese. It might not be recognizable as 'french' specifically, but they'd still identify the accent. I don't speak Japanese though, so no clue if in the show they used accents while playing foreigners at all.
