It is so nice to see all these little clues in these episodes which could allow you to find out secrets way before the show explains them.

Ok, who also thought Tokio was a guy until this episode, I can't be the only one.

Spirit Blood

If you like stuff like Heavenly Delusion and Made in Abyss then Girls' Last Tour may be something for your taste.

Dylan Cromche

i read the manga first, and without any voice acting i absolutely thought she was a boy until this scene.

Keith Merrington

Bit of a 'fun' filler episode this time. Except for the revelation that Maru managed to (ahem) 'penetrate' Totori - this strongly indicates some link between humans and hiruko (monsters). It's nice to see the relationship between Kiruko and Maru deepening too.

Rob

You are not the only one, it was purposely ambiguous. If i'm not mistaken they even use the suffix "-kun" when they talk to/about Tokio, which is usually used for boys (while "-chan" is used for girls)

rostikowb

I think I lost a little bit of confusion :( Because of the female dubbing, it was immediately clear that she was a girl

Keith Merrington

You are not mistaken. The director calls her Tokio-kun when Tokio asked about the outside. I noticed that at the time and thought 'Ah, so Tokio is a boy'.

GTB

You're stating a general rule, but as is often the case in Japanese, there are contextual variations. The suffix -kun can also be used for a girl and woman in some contexts. Nuances that are very difficult to identify for a non-native. I too had my doubts about Tokio because of her hair and the -kun, while at the same time I found her behavior and gestures rather feminine.

GTB

Sexuality and gender are important elements in Heavenly Delusion. Unlike a lot of other anime, it's definitely not there for fan-service, and you can feel it in the more mature treatment of these situations. It's part of the writing, for the worldbuiding and for the characters. An episode that may seem insignificant, yet once again a lot of forshadowing.

Day 20 requesting we watch Ascendance of a Bookworm after Vinland Saga.

I've never seen a shaved bear before. The hotel owner is sus. I don't think she is 100% human which makes me wonder what exactly is going on. Where are all these monster/human hybrids coming from? Are there multiple facilities and one of them broke down letting the inpatients escape? Did someone bang a monster? Is it possible the monster/human hybrids are banging each other and she is 2nd generation? Only time will tell. Find out next time on heavenly delusion. Peace!

Someone has to make a clip with you "I am confused" meme. Now I really want to play Dying Light 2:) I loved the 1st one. Stranded on Teen Titans' tower:) That fast thinking:)) The situation was so hard to explain that the narrator had to intervene 1st time in the anime:)) 21:14 "Kaizoku ou ni ore wa naru"

Luke....if you think that selling sex in the apocalypse sounds weird, you must have living a fairly sheltered youth. She specifically said "what feels good males money." If she can be the owner of a top quality(for an apocalypse) place to sleep and keep stuff safely, that would be the dream. No starving, no kidnapped as a sex/labor slave, no need to wander the land, hoping g to not get eaten or assaulted and killed. Honestly, I was shocked at your surprise. I guess Britain is a wildly different place that the States. Sex will ALWAYS sell. If you are happy or comfortable with that, you will never be out of a job.

Tokio sounds super fem unlike the look alike (Maru?) and Tokio also says "Boku"(Masculine casual)? I guess it was a tomboy thing? -
