Von Yoosten

I feared he'd like it lmao

Orieng

This Stream was so much fun :D so glad you enjoyed it :'}

Chmuurkaa

Oh my god it's happening! I'm so excited! I started hyperventilating when I saw the notification!

Regill Derenge

oh god.... rly.... SAO ??? this is 2/10 max...zzzzz

Senoth

The last Cheeky Sax was worth every point!

Ruukasu97

i hope youll like my favorite show of all time

Kenura Perera

hope you react to Shangri-La Frontier as well

Rushin Roulette

You might look into the better version of SAO, this version is kind of meh. Go watch Sword art online Abridged... that one is a masterpiece.

Lex

This is what people in 2012 thought the world in 2022 would be, quite a bit the same but in a different way.

SoySauce

Its time for mid

Ruukasu97

imagine youre paralyzed, you would be able to move again ingame and it would feel real

KyoTsuki

Finally! Hella excited for this, hope you go all the way through, because there are some parts that are lesser but after that its amazing

Cyrill Attakpah

your reactions always make me envious of you for not having seen over 1000 anime ... and im not exeggerating .. ive watched them for about 20 years now xD

Pilot_CT12

you definitely need to check out the abridged version on youtube after this. some of the best fan content for SAO ever

Word Master Isarus

You're definitely gonna get a lot of mixed messages for this series so be prepared, lol. I personally like SAO and always will. There are some parts of it that aren't so great, but I honestly think there is far more good than bad. Some of the criticisms certainly are valid though even if a large part of the “critics” are actually just hate bandwagoners. Either way, I hope you continue to enjoy the series. SAO will occasionally have some dips in quality and there will probably be moments that you don't care for, but overall I think you'll enjoy the ride and where it ultimately ends up.

Nachoeslach

Vamooos!!!! Siiii

KyoTsuki

Yeah you should probably go back to watching Boku no Pico, much better fit for you

KyoTsuki

Perfectly said. Most haters either never watched it, or never finished it. Alicization is absolutely top tier anime, and even though some parts before that aren't that great, overall its a great anime.

Florian Krause

agreeing to this. Author not understanding online games kinda ruins the original for me :(

MonographicSingleheaded

ps Diabel, it s most likely a coincidence but in Polish language diabeł ( read more less as 'dyabew) means devil lol.

Daniel Turchan

Bro, when ur done with this, ya gotta watch the Abridged version, well at least the first 10 episodes, those r the best I love the comment he pointed out, they said “scanners” they definitely watched the abridged 😅

Roxy’s Holy Relic

Ignore the noise when watching SAO as it tends to attract a lot of haters. Some arcs are fantastic and some are a little weaker than others but overall it’s a great show that’s essential viewing for someone new to anime. There’s a good reason why SAO is one of the top selling light novels of all time. Enjoy the ride! Also, patiently waiting for Full Dive VR irl. Hopefully we’ll get it in our lifetime

Juan Contreras

Imagine this happen with the yugioh VR

Rave Recage

SAO eh. There is a lot of hate for SAO but there is nothing really like it. It mainstreamed it all, the isekai genre. Even if its not the best show, its my show.

Andoryuu

I've watched it over a decade ago and thought it was alright. There was a little bit of irrational behaviour and some edginess, but overall ok. I shouldn't have rewatched it. It was not "a little bit"...

js

Abridged is a parody. Suggesting he watch the parody INSTEAD of the original is basically just intentionally trying to be disrespectful towards everyone who voted for this.

axilir21

Well, give it another 5 years and the technology is going to be at this level. Not at the SAO level of course, but many companies like NeuroLink, Galea and 2-3 other companies already have headsets or implants that can monitor your heart, eyes, skin and brain.

brotato 96

@KyoTsuki You like trash anime with bland looker girls simping for trash generic overpowered MC. Lol you have no right to say who should be watching what.

brotato 96

Incoming toxic fanbois below ↓. This is the only good part about SAO. It just goes downhill. Even though it lacks creative story writing for extended arcs, they could have atleast done away with making it over generic, with bland looker girls simping for chunni MC with too much plot armor.

BlekDimon

I mean, it was kinda obvious that Luke will like the beginning of this series. I'm more curious what he will think about later episodes.

BlekDimon

The best part about SAO is Alicization, which is like a solid 8/10 in my regard and Aincrad arc a decent 7. Then the rest is hmmm, let's say a 4 or 5.

Todor Georgiev

Oh boy! I’ve been waiting for this for so long!

brotato 96

@KyoTsuki I have watched every single season and movie. And I am a hater. I would agree that its not completely bad, and there are good aspects and it is well liked by majority of its viewers. But atleast dont make up arguments out of your ass to cover up the negative aspects of this show, like dont be in complete denial that most haters have never seen the show. There are perfectly good reason why many people criticise SAO despite having watched all of it. The most common of them being the plot armor and unreasonable power up of Kirito, and second being every season starts with a lot of potential and is wasted by becoming generic, even Alicization for that matter. I was really in love with the whole concept of underworld, but what did they do half past the season? the ususal, chad kirito keeps powering up and defeating every boss one by one, citing some stupid reason why he gained so much power, and every character is buffed or nerfed as per the shows convenience, Which is why I ended up hating Alicization Arc.

KyoTsuki

Terrible take, its a parody. People voted to watch this, not some random youtuber

KyoTsuki

Alicization is easily the best part of SAO, guessing you never watched it, but that is the case with most bandwagon haters.

KyoTsuki

Just gotta hope he makes it to Alicization, then the fun starts again

brotato 96

@KyoTsuki Your typical argument is so lame. All you have to say in defence "yUo NeVeR WaTcHeD iT". I have seen every single season and movie and I criticize it.

BlekDimon

Hmmm, interesting. Wonder why don't like Alicization. From my perspective, it fixed most of the issues I had with this series.

Lijnaito2021 !

I can't watch RN but is he doing sub or dub?

brotato 96

@BlekDimon I am repeating what I typed in other comment. When Alicization started it was my favourite thing about the show, even it shooted SAO way above in my list of good shows. The whole plot and concept of the underworld and the story of Alice was telling me this arc is going to be so good. But they just go on to ruin the whole thing half towards half of the season. They resort to their typical format, Kirito keeps getting powered up for no fking reason except for some convenient excuse, All the Bossed keep falling one after the other. The War of the underworld was way worse, every time Asuna or any other character joined the underworld, they were shown to be broken level powered up, and after some flashy scenes they just get nerfed to make way for our chad Kirito to make his entry and defeat the boss with some broken powerup that was inserted conveniently. They completely ruined an arc which had so much potential.

Matthew

YES! So glad you're finally watching SAO!

Sai

1:25:29: For me, I put YEARS into playing one single game. I've played Mabinogi since 2006 and I still play it everyday right now.

BlekDimon

Well, I guess that's reasonable. I honestly don't mind an OP protagonist so that thing never bothered me with SAO. However, I stopped watching Alicization at the first part of War of Underworld, which was already a degrade (still not bad yet though), but what made me never watch the last 11 episodes, was the fact that all those cardboard female characters were going into that world. The idea of that alone, made me never finish Alicization.

Саша Одинец

It can't be best fan content if most of it just contributes to popular misconceptions about them and alters the characters into racists and psychopaths for jokes...

Саша Одинец

SAO's point since episode 4 S1 is that none of these "power ups" matter, as all the numerical strength is nothing but illusion people pay too much attention too, while there are far better alternatives like one of friendship and love. Kirito has never, ever won a major conflict through his own numerical strength, it's always someone's help that brings any sort of victory. It's part of his character arc of the first 3-4 episodes, when he chose to go and work in his personal numerical strength rather than stay with Klein, and then it only being good enough to keep himself alive rather than his guild.

brotato 96

@Саша Одинец Literally every showdown of every season contradicts what you said.

Саша Одинец

To generalize in avoidance of spoilers - on top of Kirito, 1 extra person equally contributed to the end of first arc, 3+ 20% of best players on a server in second, 2 in third, next time he's in focus is s3, where it took 4 extra people for first half, entire server plus people outside in next... Not even close to be contradicting my point.

Damian

I'm excited to see your reaction for this anime!! It's one of my first animes I started with. Definitely worth the watch!!

brotato 96

@Саша Одинец Exactly the point I was making in my earlier comment on this thread. All the side characters are inserted for the watchtime, but they get nerfed or stuck so that our chad Kirito can deal with the final boss "solo". Literally every showdown has been 1 V 1, except for ordinal scale where he did solo the main antagonist, but not the lvl 100 boss. And every single time he becomes the most OP character making his chad entry and saving the day.

FraaD

woaah SAO letsgooo I know many people hate this anime but for me this anime 10 years ago makes me love Anime & Games so whatever people say this still get best anime place in my heart ^^

Саша Одинец

No. Every single time Kirito fails, others help, victory is achieved. Without help, not a single one he would've won. Even when it starts 1v1, each time it's him failing, being beaten up, others interfere help/stop the villain. If you're on discord server of the channel, I can provide the screenshots. "All the side characters are inserted for the watchtime" not true either, lots of stories are part of their pov and character progression. Even on stream, entire episode 4 is not from Kirito's pov, he's not the protagonist of it.

Da$H IX

Even though a lot of people hate on this anime, I love it! I'm glad you are reacting to it.

seansky

I dont think Luke will have much negative to say bout this series as a whole till the end really, projecting from his reactions on the other shows. We've got OP MC in Rimuru and Shadow (tho they are more comical) before. Im not saying SAO is top tier, but I havent heard much negative from Luke through all his other reactions (other than having that 3 shows he didnt like). Gonna guess at best it wont make it into top 5, but he will still enjoy it.

brotato 96

@Саша Одинец What is even your argument? Im talking about showdowns and his unreasonable powerups where I still stand correct. Oh yes they do put him out of commission from time to time to give the screentime to other characters. But As I said, Its always him rising to power and becoming the most OP character and saving the day by going 1 V 1 against the final boss every single time.

KeterLordFR

Agreed. So many people constantly shit on the first 2 seasons, but I thoroughly enjoy every arc in them.

Some0neElse

Just a question here: Are you going to watch all of the Sword Art Online stuff (including movies, Alicization, Alternative GGO, Progressive etc? Cause if you are doing that it comes close to 100 episodes. If you are willing to do that why should we limit ourselves and not vote in other big animes? like maybe Naruto :D

Саша Одинец

@brotato - the hater argument is not made up - in most cases, haters can't get 3 facts from the story right while explaining their hate, thus creating an appearance of never watching it in the first place. Of course, not all haters are like this, but the reason the hate even seems to be popular - is due to this kinds of people, believing the misconceptions that were disproven by facts a decade ago. Even during the stream - have you seen, how many people in a chat believe Diavel died cause he didn't drink the potion at his already 0 HPs? Have you seen how many people think Kirito is an Edgelord for sacrificing his public image and playing a show in front of the angry mob so well these viewers believed it too? Have you seen people thinking characters hated Beta testers for everything but the stated fact of them abandoning the new players behind without help that could've saved lives? And that's just easy examples from a single episode.

Lexi Browning

The era of anime when this came out was so top tier. One Piece had just entered its Dressrosa arc, Naruto was deep in the backstory of Minato and Kushina, JoJo's amazing reboot came out, HunterXHunter reboot, everyone was still riding on the high or post-mortem of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood's ending, and Attack on Titan dropped immediately after this first season ended and it fcked up EVERYBODY. I miss 2012-2013

brotato 96

@Саша Одинец You are mixing up 2 things. getting details wrong vs hating without watching the show at all. At the first place, how does one even claim that most haters never saw the show? KyoTsuki is going around every negative comment and claiming that this person never saw the show. Seems far fetched claim to me, compared to someone criticizing the show is most likely to have atleast seen it, even with a bias, hence the opinion.

brotato 96

Yes even to Im highly critical of SAO, my guess is Luke will like it.

Саша Одинец

My argument is already presented in the comments. So it is clear that unless I am to rely on heavy spoilers - there's little point in continuing discussion. Thus I suggest either to move to anime branch of this channel's discord server, or stop, or for you to rewatch corresponding episodes with info in mind that I already explained.

hb.beny

I can't enjoy most of this anime after watching the Abridged version. Hope you have a good time though.

brotato 96

@Саша Одинец You have no comeback? All you are saying is "This Argument is pointless" and backing out for lack of any comeback. What details or spoilers are you even talking about? Kirito vs Oberon? Completely Solo with stupid Excalibur powerup. Kirito vs Heathcliff was a solo with unnecessary sacrifice from Asuna, Kirito vs Death Gun was also solo where the side character and villains snipers were rendered useless show that our chad MC can have a close ranged showdown. Even Kirito vs quinella, Kirito vs Subtilizer, Kirito vs Eiji was complete Solo.

Some0neElse

it was indeed a "game changer" (pun intended). I mean it might be partially the reason for many isekai to be animated. It however generated alot of hate around the time a certain arc aired and later when the Abridged version dropped and overexposed certain plot holes everyone jumped into the hate train. That stigma remains still and whenever someone say "Sword Art Online" its quickly followed by "it sux" or something like that

Саша Одинец

""This Argument is pointless" without using spoilers. You reworded and cut the phrase midway for your benefit, no wonder you seems to be cutting the info from the story same way too. Which is why I'm saying - I'm ready to set you a comeback, but the only way you wouldn't be able to twist it - is to discuss it in a place where screenshots can be attached. Same thing with spoilers - only first 5 episodes are covered on a channel, I strongly suggest you to either delete the portion of you comment with the names, or delete the comment altogether. If you truly ready to accept "any comeback" - I'm already on GOT's discord, waiting for you for half an hour already :)

Tatersalad666

Its funny how many people say that the "SAO hate" is only because people didn't watch it. We all watched it. I have seen all of it, and enjoyed certain parts quite a lot. Does it get more hate than it deserves? I think the answer is generally yes, however, I think a large part of that is in response to people saying its the best show ever made. It pushes people on both sides of the argument to the extremes defending their positions. To me it is the definition of a 7/10 show. It has plenty of positives, and some glaring issues that stop it from fully realizing its potential. I'm happy that Luke is enjoying it so far.

Keith Merrington

I'm sorry - I had to give up when, after episode 3, you said "Sword Art Online is crushing it". This anime is awful. Just awful. Everyone is trapped in this virtual game for what reason? None as far as I was able to decipher. Just because. Some elaborate nonsense about how they couldn't physically leave the game - but nothing about how their bodies survive in the real world (yeah - just skip over this small point, after all skipping important things is going to be the hallmark of this show apparently). Then 2000 people die in the first month - so we're just going to casually skip that too? We're still on the first floor, then suddenly (skip) 5 months later we're at floor 11 and joining some random guild that we have no backstory to at all. Then suddenly we're on floor 20! Ok, so apparently you can teleport to different floors using crystals (where did they come from? How do they work? What are the rules?!! - aah, just skip it). Various other floors show up for no apparent reason - probably so the MC can appear moody and aloof. Then (within an episode) his guild dies. So he goes to floor 49 at Xmas to fight robot Santa (a fight which is also skipped) while some random guild shows up to (for whatever reason - not like they didn't want the same prize) hold off some other random guild while MC single-shots Santa for the prize. The story progression is all over the place with huge chunks of seemingly important backstory missing. None of the characters get any development - I didn't care a jot about any of them, especially MC. He seems like the most unlikable boring character possible. Phew! - rant over. Can't waste any more time on this anime I'm afraid.

Dylan Cromche

its almost like you didnt even try to watch it, their bodies surviving in the real world is entirely explained by halfway through season 1, kayaba's reason for trapping them is literally explained in episode 1, he wanted to create a world and play god, klein's guild shows up because hes worried about kirito, and the larger guild is there for the revival item. nearly all of these issues you have are explained if you just pay attention.

Some0neElse

the summer season of 2012 is not particularly interesting but there are alot of banger names that drapped during that year... including Fate/Zero, Another, Magi, High School DxD, Love Chunibiyo and other things, Is this a zombie etc

Keith Merrington

There's a lot to hate. I struggled through the first 3 episodes (to give it a chance - if it can't keep my interest after 3 episodes then I can usually safely assume it's not for me). Actually, it's not so much 'hate'. The initial premise was quite interesting and I was actually hopeful that I'd like it. But the first 3 episodes were so bad (see my other post for reasons). So I'm not hating for hating's sake. I am annoyed that it had the potential to have been so much better, and that potential was wasted.

Dethrox

huh ?? if you dislike it that much why did you bother with even those 3 episodes ?? :D what you magically starts to liking it when you watch someone else watch it ? :D

Michael

Abridged SAO incoming

Pena Panaani

So for anyone wondering about why that blue-haired idiot didn't drank that potion in boss fight. Reason is just some unexplained bs. At least in the manga it was so fast that no one just couldn't even try to heal him because he died pretty much instantly.

LusterCandy

Well Kayaba's reasoning was retconed with the Yuki Arc (forget what it was called, the purple long-haired girl) and it was still stupid what he said at the end of the Aincrad Arc.

Christian Koch

The show has some flaws, but over all I really love it! Looking forward to the other episodes!

brotato 96

Exactly, atleast these fanbois should not be in denial. Every SAO hater including myself have perfectly resonable arguments for criticizing and disliking. But they just go.. nah, you havent even watched the show.

skrrt

only the start of alicization was peak, the war arc and everything ahead was bullshit

Sam

I’m not like an SAO stan or anything, but the hate is wild. Like, take the show for what it is. Kinda dumb at times but has some really cool moments and is just pretty fun. And if you hate it, why bother watching along or commenting?

brotato 96

Im seeing more comments criticizing haters than actual haters lol. And its called criticism people dont like something and they express it, just like you are expressing discontent over hate comments. Its not like only positive opinions have the right to comment.

Саша Одинец

Even though the reason is more clear in the original novels, it's not that difficult to figure out what happened in the anime. Why would he die laying on the floor and taking no extra damage? Logic says, he wouldn't or that if he would - no potion would help him. If one pays attention to the death scenes throughout the season - HP bar doesn't show the outcome of the hit immediately. Let's say - one has 100 hps, takes a 20 hp hit. Instead of the bar jumping from 100 to 80, it would go 98 96 ... 82 80. In other words - there's animation to the process. So what happened to him? He had 100% hps, and the hit from the boss did, let's say, 120%. His real HPs are already 0, no potion would help from that point. As ex beta tester - he knows it, so rather than waste the death animation on pointless attempt of drinking the potion - he used the last seconds of his life to talk to Kirito.

Саша Одинец

@brotato 96 There's a fine line between criticism, and ignoring facts from the story to present your hate as criticism. You and a few others, crossed that line a number of times already, so don't be surprised people criticize such comments, they have the right to do it too :)

Саша Одинец

@LusterCandy it wasn't retconed, it was an extra outcome of the process Kayaba started. The reason for creating SAO itself remained the same and explained in episodes 1 and 14

mick mouse

lol, when you said thank you to Alexa, my Alexa said "You're welcome".

Dethrox

oh what ?? Kayaba a bad guy ?? what do you mean he just kill 213 people the very first day the game launched and is holding 9.787 people hostage :DD im sure he is... yeah he is a bad guy lol..

Pena Panaani

Yeah I kinda understand it, it's my fourth or fifth time seeing first season. I just think it could be more clear what happens. I mean this early on could you even guess as you watching for the first time what happens. Especially when this is almost only time we have this much attention focused on whole health bar goes down to zero thing. Also that's why I said "unexplained bs", it wouldn't be that if it just were explained or focused more. Jheeze, no matter how much I like this first half of season 1 I can't stop noticing these little details that bothers me.

WarTalon

TBH the community around the abridged version really dampened my enjoyment of it. All the abridged fans acting like its the greatest thing ever, and they seem to have have a hate boner for the source material. Really brings the mood down for me.

Саша Одинец

@brotato 96 what I'm saying - at some point, the amount of details that haters got wrong becomes so huge, that fans have nothing else to say other than question whether haters even watched it. You yourself, as I've shown on Discord server of GOT already, missed literally characters in the scene that contradict your points.

KeterLordFR

I really love the fact that Luke goes into these reactions absolutely blind, without any knowledge about the show whatsoever. This makes for much enjoyable reactions. Usually, people who start reactions to SAO already know about what's explained in the first episode, so there's less of a shock factor.

Саша Одинец

"it could be more clear what happen" yeah, first season has a bit of a problem with how creative they went on such things... the worst one is having people to remember death animation from episode 1 for half a season to understand the scene that shouldn't have been so overcomplicated to understand xD but hey, at least second season they figured out how to adapt the books better, and it wouldn't have happened without the 1st))

brotato 96

@Саша Одинец Again you started mixing up things. get off your high horse lmao you think only your judgements are right and others criticism are wrong. What again what kind of argumetn is that saying this guy has right, isnt that exactly what im saying, every one has the right to express, but you guys act like only you are right and other should not say what they want to say?

Dethrox

XDD ''the worst she can do is say no'' *presses x* ..im dead ;DD omg

Саша Одинец

@WarTalon same. And all their comments made me seriously compare it to original, and abridged just doesn't hold up after this, I just can't watch it anymore and rather go read the original books.

Саша Одинец

"you think only your judgements are right and others criticism are wrong" nah, I'm simply more inclined to respond to the ones that have an issue with facts in it :) You have the right, we have the right, the question is whether there's a point in using it.

Keith Merrington

I tried the first 3 episodes. I'm afraid my brain was turned to mush by then, so I may have forgotten some parts. Currently enjoying the abridged series - it's way more fun :-)

brotato 96

@Саша Одинец Im not twisting anything, Im saying Kirito soloed all main villains plain and simple, you are the one cherry picking details. I went to discord and all you had to say Asuna jumped in between Kayaba's final blow. That hardly explains why Kirito had to be the one to solo finish him. And you had no comback to say how Kirito speedrun upto top levels in Ordinal Scale and Soloed Eiji. That was just ridiculous powerups for being main character without any side character assist.

Саша Одинец

@brotato 96 " all you had to say" you didn't even read as of now. Moderator moved the discussion in another branch of the server and partially deleted our replies and you didn't check the new ones.

brotato 96

@Саша ОдинецEarlier you were cherry picking details now your are resorting to plain lies? Which character did I miss, Asuna Jumping to take Kayaba's blow? Called it even before you posted SS. And your whole argument lies in some wierd assumption that all haters get details of the show wrong, when I say Alicization turned bad because of its weak progression in later half is that also me missing details?

Sam

Lmfao go somewhere else if you don’t want to watch. The compulsion to just pop in and say “acshually this show sucks 🤓” is why you’re not fun at parties, homie.

KyoTsuki

This anime was fan voted, meaning the majority of people wanted him to watch it. There's a reason the majority voted it lmao.

Саша Одинец

@brotato 96 your alicization comments are the worst example - Kirito would fight a character that was already heavily damaged by another character, and you call it "soloing" :D Again, you didn't even enter the chat that moderator asked us to move away not to use spoilers in the wrong one.

brotato 96

@Саша Одинец Why do you get to decide who makes a valid point? Isnt that the same as saying I am right so I have the right to post but your opinion is wrong so yours is pointless? Get off your high horse lol. You are just parroting that haters always get details wrong, being in complete denial that some people have genuine criticisms.

Keith Merrington

"klein's guild shows up because hes worried about kirito" But why? It makes no sense. Kirito was a dick to him. They have virtually no history apart from a brief mutual pig killing spree and failure to find the logout button in the first episode. Oh, wait, they met for a few seconds on floor whatever and Kirito ghosted him. Yeah, I see it now - the undeniable basis for a friendship you'd risk your life for. /s

brotato 96

@Sam Buddy You dont decide for me what I should watch and should not. The most generic arguments that i have heard and then you have the audacity to talk about pop compulsion? Arent you doing the same thing? I have hear this argument countless times. "Dont watch it", Atleast comeup with something better to make your point against a criticism.

KyoTsuki

Buddy, you dont have to watch it. Spending your day hating on a show really is just sad. Why are you even here?

info@voidzero.de

i just love some in chat having watched the abriged series :D after having watched that im not able to take this serious sadly... when Agil was first seen i couldent but call him Tiffany :D It just destroyed this anime for me... but it was worth it. You shoud check that out too after youre done.

brotato 96

@Саша Одинец Say now.. Go on.. Who Assisted Kirito in his fight against Eiji? Who else Assisted Kirito Against Kayaba apart from your Asuna jumping argument. I am already calling you out for lying, I did not miss any detail that you claim I did.

Саша Одинец

@brotato 96 I've seen your "genuine criticisms" and it ignores half the plot if not more. Facts is what decide whether the point is valid or not, and majority of haters aren't friendly with facts from the story. Me and many other fans, have years of experience with haters, don't be surprised we don't hear much new stuff from them.

Sam

Brotato I just straight up don’t care what you think, so I’m not going to argue against it. Like I said, just don’t watch. You don’t have to come in and try to ruin everyone else’s experience with a show. It’s not “criticism” it’s just you being obnoxious.

js

Being a hater just because others like it is simply ridiculous. Your own position about it should not be affected by others. It comes off as "how dare you like something I don't like!" crying. Let people who like it enjoy it, instead of running in out of breath with hateful comments every time you hear someone somewhere dare say they like it.

Sam

Brotato also, your reading comprehension needs work. I said you were popping in to say something, not that your hate comments were “pop” lmfao

WarTalon

How was he a dick to Klein? He took the time to teach Klein how to play the game.and even offered to take Klein with him.

brotato 96

@Саша Одинец Now Shifting Goalpost? You ignored my entire argument and started attacking my view on Alicization, im sorry Its not even about any details like you claim to be, I just did not like the arc conclusion in general, we can argue about the soloing part but that's not the point Im trying to make, not all criticisms are about details. You cant argue with me If I say I did not like alicization for having a weak ending, its my opinion.

Саша Одинец

@Keith Merrington They've spent the evening together, during which Klein saw the type of individual Kirito is - of a good kind. Kirito helped him back then, gave the knowledge that helped Klein's group to survive. Later, Klein clearly understood why Kirito behaved himself the way he did, and instead of turning his back on him, came to help. As a genuinely good person he is. Maybe it's the type of people that is hard to understand to some, but it doesn't make it less of a good story.

Keith Merrington

"And if you hate it, why bother watching along or commenting? " Didn't know I 'hated' it until I watched along. Now I know I won't watch or comment on any more sessions. Negative criticism can be just as valid as positive praise, but I understand you don't want to keep seeing it. Hope it didn't detract too much from your enjoyment.

brotato 96

@Саша Одинец you are too focussed on making it a point that all criticisms get the details of the show wrong. What gives you so much confidence in your judgement? Ignorance maybe? You must think you are always right even when people say they dislike a show you just say no no you got the details wrong, wtf its like you are forcing that argument about every criticism of this show.

KyoTsuki

Then take your opinion and leave? Not sure what you are trying to do here. Coming here just to hate on a show and annoy people who enjoy the show isnt just "having an opinion", its begging for attention.

Саша Одинец

@brotato 96 and I never argued about you liking it or not. I said it and I'll repeat myself - in the arguments you tried to make, all the info about Alicization did not correlate with facts from the story to the worst extent than what you said about other arcs so far. That's it.

Pilligrim Ilyas

I'm just pissed that other overhyped anime doesn't get even slightest bit of hate that SAO gets. I just can't explain that phenomena when only SAO get that treatment

js

Most of this rant is "they didn't explain exactly how every single little thing works". Neither does almost any other anime. It's not even a good thing when a story does that, it's called exposition and the general consensus is that it's a horrible storytelling method.

brotato 96

@Sam Yeah My bad I did not read that properly. But Again, you cant tell someone to not watch a show everytime someone criticizes something. What kind of argument even is that. i have seen every season of SAO and expressing what I liked and disliked, which is mostly negative. You totally dont see that you are doing the exact same thing that you are calling out people for? People have criticism, in your logic, even you can ignore negative comments, but you go on to argue with them and calling them obnoxious.

Pilligrim Ilyas

Oh boy! You're in for the ride! Second half of first season little bit lacking, but from there on it gets only better and better!

Саша Одинец

@brotato 96 you repeat the same thing as you did on Discord - you openly use the spoilers where people ask not to. To the point when moderator interfered on Discord and you left. I already answered all of these question in a place moderator of this channel asked us to move, so please stop using spoilers here, and if you truly wish to have answers - go and read them.

js

@Саша Одинец That's actually a pretty good explanation, it makes sense. Didn't think of that before for some reason.

Саша Одинец

@brotato 96 I've said the word "majority " so many times, I wonder how it is that you keep on making it into "all "/"everyone" type of stuff. "What gives you so much confidence in your judgement?" - if you were actually to read my comment, there would be the line " have years of experience with haters". " expressing what I liked and disliked" and I didn't comment on that, I comment on the stuff you and others misunderstood/ignored in the story, which doesn't matter whether you hated or loved.

Pilligrim Ilyas

If you're really wasting your time on a show that you hate so much, you're really need to change some priorities on your life. Imagine making hate for SAO one of them, that's just hilarious 😂

js

Abridged is pretty much just made to pander to the haters. Hardly "fan" content.

KyoTsuki

@brotato 96 Many many people have criticized it, what's the point? Just trying to ruin people's fun is pathetic, why you even here? Too obsessed with this show i guess

brotato 96

@Саша Одинец Every explanation was cherry picking, while Kirito is doing 1 V 1. I guess Ill say "Go Kirito" now even I assisted Kirito right? And the Kirito vs Eiji? not even an explanation you were just giving excuses. More Importantly why do you keep pushing this idea that all criticisms are due to people missing details. get off your High horse lol.

Саша Одинец

@brotato 96 again, you literally called it 1v1 Kirito fighting a character heavily damaged by someone else. At this point, all I had to say, I said here and left all the evidences on discord. Have fun with that.

js

@Pilligrim Ilyas I'd rather just no anime gets hate for being "overhyped" rather than all of it. Hating on something just because you think others like it "too much" is simply ridiculous. It shouldn't happen for SAO and it shouldn't happen for anything else. Let people hype up the things they like without other people wasting their and everyone else's time on hating something they should just ignore.

brotato 96

Majority vs Everyone? is that your point seriously, so its fine if you say majority get the details wrong. And you are admitting you have a complex of being right because you consider yourself experienced? And again seriously get off your high horse you are constantly pushing the idea that people are getting the details wrong. I dislike Kirito's hairstyle. Go ahead tell me what detail about his hairstyle am i missing?

Sam

All you’re adding to anything here is negativity. You CAN comment all you want, but it doesn’t mean that you SHOULD. Nobody likes a party pooper, which is the only thing you’re doing here - it’s not additive.

KyoTsuki

@brotato 96 disliking his hairstyle is an opinion, unneeded so keep it to yourself. If you attack the plot, be correct otherwise its just hate. It's simple but you still get it so incredibly wrong

brotato 96

I have read your details. Still you keep saying I am missing details. Tell me which detail about Kirito's hairstyle am I missing. In your logic people cannot have criticisms (all / most, whatever you prefer, Mr. "expert"). They are all ignorant and you are the expert who will point out what details everyone is missing as the source of their dislike.

Sam

Keith - all good, you seem cool haha. Totally get it if you’re seeing things for the first time and sort of reacting alongside him. My comment is directed toward people who have seen and already decided they didn’t like the show.

Tatersalad666

SAO definitely gets a lot of hate compared to other shows that have the same problems or are "overhyped". I think for other shows people just aren't interested in arguing the point. SAO fans will vehemently defend it no matter what, plus it has been watched by a lot more people. Note that I am once again not particularly criticizing SAO here, but often anything less than complete adulation is met with people saying you're a hater. I don't think most people "hate" SAO because others like it. I think they "hate" SAO for legitimate reasons that then get amplified and entrenched by both sides arguing over it. Is it fair? Not really. There just doesn't seem to be a lot of room for nuance since everyone seems to take everything so personally with SAO in particular.

brotato 96

@Саша Одинец Again Lying? Tell me the details, or keep making arguments out of your ass. You are seriously pushing the idea that im getting details wrong just because i criticised SAO.

brotato 96

@Pilligrim Ilyas Imagine getting triggered over a comment and taking your time to leave a response, while hypocritically laughing at others for doing the same thing.

SAO is amazing. Glad to see you watch it. But your chat is really obnoxious.

brotato 96

@Sam Negative are the people like you who cannot take opposite views and opinions. Literally the first comment of this thread is yours, arguing against the negative comments, Preaching much? Constantly doing the same things that you keep criticizing other of doing.

WarTalon

It's fine to criticize anyone can criticize anything they want. That also means any opinions made public are also open to criticism. No one is immune to it, especially on the internet.

brotato 96

@KyoTsuki Again Shifting Goalpost. It was an example of how not every dislike can be about getting details of the show wrong, like that guy keeps pushing. But you guys are all full of fallacies because you cannot accept that people have opposing views.

Reennji

I can't wait for SAO to end so we can watch 'SAO Abridged'

Sam

Hahahahaha “you’re being negative by telling people to keep things positive.” Okay, bud.

Sam

Nobody cares that you have opposing views, there’s just times where it’s better to keep them to yourself. This is just like basic social etiquette. You don’t have to say that you dislike everything that you dislike.

brotato 96

@KyoTsuki Shifting Goalpost again? What was the thing your said out of your ass that most haters never watched the show? Dont even have spine. When you say something negative about people its fine but when they point you out they are "begging for attention"

hfgd_gaming

57:54 - (Lightnovel comment:) He was already dead. The death animation was just veeeeery long, because ultra dramatic and stuff

brotato 96

Hahaha. Even I can say that. Ran out of any comebacks? The whole purpose of this thread is you bitching about negative comments of this show. As If that is not something Negative. Laugh it off lol.

KyoTsuki

@brotato 96 Alot of the people hating on this show have only watched Abridged. Just because you "watched it", doesnt mean im wrong that alot don't. Again, go do something better with your life, its pathetic.

Iron_claw

Luke, I'm just gonna say this. If you want to finish this anime in a timely manner, you have to watch at least 6 episodes a week. So you can get to the next one.

KyoTsuki

@brotato 96 Disliking the show is fine, thats your opinion. Going out of your way to hate on something others are trying to enjoy, is absolutely not fine and pathetic

Sam

The whole point of the thread is that you replied to me and tried to start a fight. I’m laughing because you can’t argue with stupid. Just go do something else.

brotato 96

Are you nuts? You start something negative and I am starting a fight? The very first comment is yours, blind dumbfk. You are laughing because your are stupid with no comebacks but you have to play the game where you feel like leaving the last comment is your victory. Go ahead, Make the last pointless comment and take your victory.

brotato 96

@KyoTsuki Why are you changing the meaning of my statement, I told you it was an example in response to Саша Одинец where he said majority criticism is due to people getting details wrong. I only said about disliking Kirito's hairstyle becuase I had to differentiate some opinions are personal preference and not due to not paying attention to details.

Fabien

I actually liked the first dozen of episodes, then I disliked everything else related to that anime lol. For me, they killed the concept once you-know-what.

Imperium

He should defiantly watch Sword Art Online Abridged but not until he has watched all of season 1 of SAO. I would watch his reaction to abridged but if nothing else he should watch it offline cause it's awesome.

Juho Kaartoaho

It has been quite a while since watching SAO, so long that I can't even recognize if I watched it dub or sub since all the voices have changed into the SAO Abridged voices for me.

Tom Boggess

ah good. now you can react to the "trapped in a video game" genre. This anime is an example of how not to do it. The firist half is servicable at best, but then it becomes pretty bad. then season 2 comes and should be burried under a landfill. After this one react to Log Horizon. it handles the genre way better.

brotato 96

@KyoTsuki Again you are full of fallacies. First you shift goalpost, it became from "not watched" to "watched abridged" . Which is also a baseless claim out of your ass. And the second one is Ad-Hominem, for lack of argument you are resorting to personal attacks on me directly.

KyoTsuki

Buddy, i dont care if you like it or not, watched it or not. Go do something other than hating on a show, its just sad at this point

Kyle

season 1 was a bit rushed because the author didnt flesh out his story. it gets WAY better for season 2 and then season 3 is absolute PEAK SAO. just hang in there. if you watch the progressive movies it rehashes the story with a lot of added information that makes much more sense

Kyle

imagine being this wrong and saying it with your entire chest lmao. its clear you watched nothing and understand even less. maybe try dragon tales or another cartoon thats easy for someone with no brain to understand

brotato 96

@KyoTsuki Im not asking you to care. Just dont call out critics using facts made out of your ass. All your arguments are plain fallacies.

KeanuofRivia

Damn been awhile since I've watched the actual show, been watching the Abridged for years 😂

brotato 96

Yeah, they try to make him deep. I keep wondering what is even deep in that? Its like he is full of himself thinking he is making some kind of philosophical impact on this world, which he did but not in a way he is projecting but by mass murdering people.

Juho Kaartoaho

I think that we can all agree that Diabel basically committed suicide there.

Ultraporing

I stopped doing the lying in bed and reaching hand up thing. Because I went to sleep while doing it, it fell down and punched myself in the eye xD.

Lulu WT

Love SAO, and looking forward to watching your reaction. Hope you'll react to more episodes in the near future.

Mike Baker

I had to give up on Log Horizon, it was just a self-insert power fantasy. The main character always knew the right answer and never made a mistake (just =appeared= to make mistakes, but actually was all “part of the plan”(tm)).

hb.beny

I was watching SAO as it was airing and loved it. I got into Abridged by accident on youtube and just ended up loving Abridged so much more that I just find the original boring now. Even the things I love about original SAO are not strong enough with me to hate their versions in Abridged. I have barely interacted with the Abridged community, but the one time I interacted with SAO community I got downvoted to hell. It seems there is a lot of toxicity going around.

KeanuofRivia

Because of what SAO represents. None of us hate the show cuz we think it's awful thru and thru. We see SAO as wasted potential. This show, with better writing could have been right up there with AOT or Re:Zero. But some stuff seriously damaged it. A pointless harem... Unnecessary tentacles.... The main villains motive being literally non-existent. It's extra frustrating because we can see how good it COULD have been.

David Stowe

I think something that many people don't understand about Sao, is that it was written in 2002. People say it's generic, the genre is overdone, and whatnot, but back then it wasn't. The series should have ended after the first half of season 1, yes. The author hadn't even written anything past that until after it got popular. So of course later stuff gets a little weird. But the best advise I could give to anyone, watching any anime, is go in with no preconceived notions about what it should be like, and enjoy it for what it is. With Sao you have to do this for each half of each season, but they're all good in their own way. Is it perfect? No, but compared to other series from the early 2000s, this was amazing. Sure the concept wasn't 100% original, look at the obvious influence of the .hack// series. But a series doesn't have to be original to be good either. Look at solo leveling. How many times have we seen a weak protagonist become OP, gates, hunters, and all of that? Yet SL is still awesome.

shibanu_IM

someone fight: ost: coffee soda! coffee soda! give me sodee!

WarTalon

I agree the harem stuff is lame and detracts from the story, but I feel that way about a lot of series no just SAO. I think the story is still pretty fun despite this though.

Mrdevdev330

Alicization is an example of why this series should still be around

WarTalon

IMO SAO is about a little more than just trapped in a video game.

WarTalon

I'm sure it goes both ways, and don't get me wrong I do like abridged as well. It'd be better if the two communities could get along like with Dragon Ball Z Abridged.

Aycee

Once you get through the first couple seasons of this anime, you should definitely check out SAO Abridged. Best abridged series ever in my opinion.

MonographicSingleheaded

for me such games were always Need for Speed 3, Heroes of MnM3, Worms, Diablo 2, and now Age of Wonders 3.

Hawk of Battle

I love how chat is just endlessly quoting SAO Abridged. Hopefully Luke will watch that once he's done with this at some point.

Iron_claw

Do you guys think you should watch the spin-off? Series Gun Gail Online before He starts watching. season 2. The one with the girl in the pink suit.

Smonolith

coffee soda toffee pasta coffee soda give me soda

FraaD

what different of nowaday isekai/game genre anime ? they just same as SAO and just like copy with better because they release later ,

Kohta Don

Luke you have to watch the abridged series and upload it.

RiftRusher

Will you watch the whole series or just the 1st season?

Dave M

oof

FraaD

dont care if people say mid ,i pay Luke PAtreon for his Reaction and when I see Luke Love SAO it all matter than people opinion like you who just people with hate and cant see other people enjoy what they like ,thsts pathetic lol

Dr. A

Skip season 2. It's the reason SAO is considered so bad. The concept is the best part of SAO. GGO was a fine spinoff.

Dr. A

Ah yes, anime's black swordsman.

Саша Одинец

If you'd read the prior comments, you'd know it's not the case. Yes his actions lead to his death, it was a mistake on his part, but potion wouldn't have done a thing to save him

Dr. A

Lots of writing flaws you just have to ignore btw

Dr. A

Not gonna lie, the first episode is top three in the series. Not sure if there is a better one.

Саша Одинец

The problem with this statement, is that SAO, for example, never was a harem... The motive was expressed loud and clear in a few episodes... So for fans what's frustrating is people ignoring the plot while saying its potential was wasted..

Dr. A

If it was just season 1 it would probably not be as infamous.

Aycee

I also love the people in chat quoting the abridged. absolutely hilarious.

Dr. A

Ep 4: No not the lizard, my favorite character ;-;

Chalex

Good lord no, it is so childish and gives a terrible impression about other abridged series.

Chalex

I'd say the second half of S1 is more egregious than S2 altogether, but S2 still had no idea what it wanted to be and tried to keep the realistic aspect. S3 onwards they just gave in to the insanity and went the male power fantasy route which makes it bearable to most.

Chalex

What plot? Joking aside, it's a power fantasy where the dude is so cool and edgy and hot that all the girls fall for him, while he can't care less. Still falls under a harem aspect and wasted potential on such a cool premise which has since been done better at least 5 times over.

Chalex

Even when it was airing, after 'that point' in the story people felt it was too rushed, too quick and that it really threw its plot into the fire to retell the same story but now with a damsel factor. It became a joke back then and fell like 30 spots in MAL the second it happened. I have no clue where the revisionism is coming from of it being amazing back then when even without other Isekais most people saw what it became with sadness. The first half of the season is by far still some of the best Isekai ever made, which makes the fall that much harder. Same thing is still said about Death Note but that had the decency to end after one season.

Frentzy

TL;DR Yesn't. It's good the spin-off but on twitch we only watch main-story content usually, he never ended up watching the One Punch man filler ovas, so we will 100% skip SAO Alternative GGO based on the sentiment of the most people who watch on twitch. Long version: I think he could straight go into alicization right after SAO. Gun gale online, contain only 1 new main character and some asuna character development. It's minimum main story content, and a lot can enter in the filler arc (filler as in not necessary at all for the main timeline). ALO is better in someways cuz it's what SAO would be if not for Kayaba Akihiko. And alicization is the only other arc of SAO that actually compete with s1 and it's 100% worth watching. Based on luke he will watch everything except the spin-off. If he ever read this (Hope not), then he will end up agreeing with most SAO fans that, s1 first 14 ep is godly, rest is mid-ok, and alicization is godly (and after alicization anyone could appreciate the spin-off as a different new anime that randomly contain kirito, cuz that's it, another show that's better than most SAO content except s1 and alicization). Haters of SAO, stop at mid-ok part and never watched alicization or they believe it's not enough of a pay-off (last arc). PS: I know SAO the anime doesn't have filler episodes, and everything is canon (I only implied that if you selected carefully and cut about 40 episodes out of 96, you wouldn't miss the main world building or any main characters and you could most probably enjoy the full experience which means the main canon story has parts which acts like filler).

Саша Одинец

The only reason SAO is infamous in the West (not so much outside) is due to a couple of american YTers trashing on it with lies misconceptions repeated by haters to this day a decade later. It's not because of the show itself, which people still love.

Саша Одинец

@Chalex The only time Kirito was "edgy" is literally episode 2 when he did it as a show, to redirect the hate of players onto himself and prevent the witch-hunt. It never was a power fantasy as Kirito can't do a thing at achieving victory himself - he's already shown to be traumatized to the point of being suicidal by episode 3, what a great power fantasy... "All the girls fall for him" - there are more girls that didn't "fall for him" in first half of season one than the ones that found him romantically interesting (for good reasons) throughout all seasons. To claim what you did is either not to pay attention to the plot, being childish, or simply misogynistic.

XxCypher-3xX

But he wouldn't understand the plot that leads to alicization without gun gale to set the premise. I can't go into detail here obv cause of spoilers, but certain things are shown in gun gail that carry onto alicization. Not to mention ordinal scale as well.

Quincey Forder

for me, it's Star Citizen that I put the most hours in. I pledged in 2017, when all we had were two stations (plus a couple in derelict), before we got the moons, planets and asteroids

Quincey Forder

something that just hit me: Silica looks like Hamilton, and her companion was called Pina. Could it be that the author was actually a GATE fan?

Саша Одинец

There's no need to go into details to explain why it is a bad idea to skip entire season - this idea simply goes against a common sense. Anyone can see that.

brotato 96

I have exact same opinion as you. Alicization starts so good but all the plot is wasted halfway past the season. But look at toxic fanbois arguing everything that their perfect edgelord show can never be bad. Atleast they can not be in denial and accept this show has flaws.

Саша Одинец

SAO's first story was published in 2002, and though it was heavily rewritten since then, up to events of S3 main plot was written by 2008. Silica was among early characters, so unless the character you're talking about was introduced in early 2000 or even prior - probably not.

DefinitlyNotHana

Perhaps the other way around. Although in general authors like using simple everyday words as names. Just look at the oldies and the previous big3. (I'm not including OP as it's ongoing) Dragon ball Naruto Bleach they all got very "easy" names to remember that refer to random objects or wordplays. It's quite a common theme.

Саша Одинец

@js thanks) this is where most of the "roughly 10 seconds" to revive a person with item from episode 3 comes from - time from taking damage to actually shuttering into pixels

Dethrox

i think the spin off is pretty good... :// and i hope we get season 2 :D edit: btw! if people scream to watch abriged then he must watch the spin off aswell.. aint no way we gona gona watch ridicilous fan content before official spin off xDDD no fricking way... thx

Dethrox

why people still complain ???? Luke likes it and thats what matter.. if you dont like it just dont watch it lmao.. is it hard ??

brotato 96

@Саша Одинец OMFG your meltdown is real. You keep repeating the same argument everywhere that people who dislike SAO dont get the details of the show. What a stupid argument people are no even allowed to say they dislike something you just declare them ignorant. You are the ignorant one who think SAO hate is only due to youtubers trashing it or people missing out details. Tell me what detail am I missing about Kirito's hairstyle lol, I did ask you that but you had no reply.

Dethrox

i cant imagine him not liking it tbh.. so far he like everything (some maybe a tiny less but still liked it) we and i mean WE (as the community) voted^^

It took the author too long to come to the same conclusion in the Alicization arch 😂

rostikowb

SAO was supposed to end on the conventional 12-13 episode, but it became too popular not to release a sequel, so the author had to squeeze it out of himself and that's how we got the infamous Fairy Dance arc. Then he realized his mistake and wrote the Phantom Bullet arc, which looked better but was a bit weird, which many people didn't like. Then the author wanted to reveal Asuna better and we got Mother's Rosario, which was also not a bad arc but was more like a spinoff. And finally, the author sat down, put all his skills together, thought it through, and wrote the best arc of SAO - Alicization, which is most similar to the first arc but which has a smooth narrative without time jumps like in the first arc. The arcs in SAO are of too different quality and often not very connected to each other by the main plot line, which is what caused the most hate in my opinion

js

I find it funny when people say their personal opinion and then attach the "is considered" qualifier as if it was anything more than their personal opinion. I've seen plenty of people who consider the last arc of S2 to be amazing.

rostikowb

In my opinion, SAO is not that bad, SAO is very similar to Demon Slayer, they are both definitely not a "masterpiece" and have problems, but they are not as bad as they are said to be and they have their big audiences.

Саша Одинец

This story may have made sense, but for the fact that everything covered by anime - he wrote before publishing it as books, and rewrote all of it for them. Anime adapts the rewritten version that eventually became Light novel of a decade in Japan... There was no push or popularity to write a sequel, it was his hobby at the time, that only got recognized much later.

Kyle Smith

i mean yes and no, the fundamental writing of Demon Slayer is better then SAO. SAO has a lot of plot holes and writing conveniences that go beyond just traditional tropes. Demon slayers obviously has a lot of the Shonen tropes you see but there isn't actually that much fundamentally bad with the writing just fairly typical. I also really like SAO over all but I'm not going to be blind to the issues it has. Also the progressive movies do a pretty decent job at fixing up some of the original writing issues even though they aren't perfect.

BlekDimon

@Dethrox Knowing Luke, I guess there is a higher chance he will like it, though I'm still curious.

Dr. A

Season 2 is the worst season I've seen. Because season 1 isn't that bad. What even happens in the last arc of season 2. Was that the GGO arc?

rostikowb

In my opinion, Demon Slayer has a lot of plot holes, more than SAO, so even though I like Demon Slayer, it was hard to watch it because a lot of things don't seem logical and not thought out, I understand that it's partly a comedy and it doesn't have to be very logical, but Demon Slayer has serious moments as well

rostikowb

Most likely, he started writing WN, then it gained some popularity and he continued, otherwise I don't understand why there is such a strong difference between the first two arcs. It looks like he was forced to write a sequel but had no idea. I think then he edited some small moments and released LN, as far as I understand the text doesn't change fundamentally when going from WN to LN, but I've only read Mushoku both WN and LN, so maybe not everyone does.

Anonymous

about the one game if the series count i have like 4,5 year on the souls series combined xD

Dethrox

bruh.. :D its agility ring.. obviously its useless on tanks/healers just give to thief or ranger in your group and problem solved lmao

2024-02-26 01:37:05 yeah also because fullmetal, Deathnote, Code Geass etc. were over, and One PieceNaruto, and Bleach were starting to feel a bit old lots of people were looking for a new anime adventure and this took off, and escaped containment to become mega popular based on the premise of the early episodes. That is exactly what created backlash with the later developments of the show

2024-02-26 01:37:05 This is basically my take as well. It is not the worst thing ever made. But there are a ton of issues, It became super popular early based on the premise being cool and the idea of a long adventure and then let a large portion of its fanbase down. That's what created the backlash and the argument between people who easily overlook everything and people who can't ever forgive it for betraying their expectations. I'm not in either camp it's overall a 6.5-7 show but not worth hating, but even in episodes 4 and 5 here I am reminded that the animator's sexualization decisions are bad and made the LN material way worse than it originally was on that front. But unfortunately, lots of modern shows are way worse than SAO on that front.

What comes to mind first: 1) They have a miracle tree that is poison to demons, why don't they use it more? We've seen Butterfly Girl use the sap from the flowers of this tree to poison demons, why don't the others do it? Why don't they coat their swords in it? Why don't they carry it with them? And a lot of other uses. 2) Why is the blacksmiths' settlement so unprotected? Why don't they have guards, why aren't they planted with a miracle tree, or why aren't they at the main base where everything is already planted with this tree? They planted this tree at the training ground for the test of candidates for admission, but could not do the same for the only producers of weapons that kill demons? 3) Why don't the demons use fire to burn these trees wherever possible? They don't even have to do it themselves, they can just send an ordinary person. 4) Why haven't demon slayers influenced ordinary people to plant these trees in their neighborhoods for so many years, they could spread rumors that the "miracle tree" "brings good luck" and "scares away evil spirits" so that it becomes a popular culture and makes it harder for demons to move around. 5) I do not understand where the civilian government are located and whether they are in contact with the demon slayers, if so, why is there no cooperation? If not, how can the corps do what they want so calmly and no one touches them? Why didn't the demons take over the civilian government to fight the demon slayers? 6) Why do demon slayers have such a bad organization? Who sends them on missions and why does he do it so badly? In almost every battle, they are on the same level of strength as the demons, although if they initiate contact, they should have the advantage. 7) Why do neither demons nor demon slayers carry out operations to systematically destroy the enemy elite? Why don't they lure them out, set traps? 8) Why doesn't Muzan do anything? It looks like he alone can defeat all the pillars, well, maybe he's a coward, I can believe that. But if the demons had some kind of fire brigade that could instantly get to the place where the pillars were spotted, they would have been destroyed long ago. I could go on forever, but I decided to stop because it's getting too long. Demon Slayer has a lot of illogical moments, and maybe some of them are explained in the manga, but I'm only judging by the anime

Luke once you finish watching SOA, I'm begging you on my hands and knees, please watch SAO Abridged. I know everyone that has seen it would love to see you react to it. It's so good!

Саша Одинец

The secret of ALO is that it's actually really good, with very strong foundation at every idea it explored, lots of intertwined narrative both within the arc and outside to others, especially Aincrad for obvious reasons. This alone should explain why it wasn't a forced sequel nor a mistake. Although if I were to explain these details - I can only do so in spoiler-section on discord server of the channel, to avoid spoilers here.

rostikowb

Luke won't come here because it's too much text, and others who watch this have already seen SAO, so I think spoilers are not critical :) I've read LN 2 times and seen the anime a few times, but I've always disliked ALO, I understand that there is a connection but it seems a bit of a stretch, the author left the ending open after the first arc with the "seeds of the world" but that's it, the rest was forced together in my opinion.

Renagale

ITS FUCKING TIMEEEEE!!!!

brotato 96

@Kyle Smith Finally someone sensible. Its okay to like SAO and also admit it has its flaws. These fanbois are just attacking everyone who is remotely mentioning flaws SAO. They are saying that people who dislike SAO have not even seen the show or failed to understand it, a very bold and baseless claim when so many people say it has flaws. I personally think SAO comes with some of the best plots for every season. But the plots potential is wasted due to shows tendency to gravitate toward certain aspects, which overtake the whole progression towards the later half of every season. Watch the fanbois argue with me that it had no such flaws and that Im ignorant for failing to understand.

The Pots

as usual, there's people here who's hating SAO just cuz it's popular and easy to hate yet didn't present valid criticisms on why it's bad while ignoring story facts like I mean this anime is not perfect and S2 for me was the worst but overall it's not that bad like y'all making it out to be. y'all acting like it's the same level as Glasslip, Mayoiga or Ousama Game, it's insane

StrykerEvol

True. I dropped SAO back then after 4 episodes, since something was bothering me about it and i wanted to prioritize other anime at that time. But now i am restarting it with the community, because i want too. Not because someone is forcing me, but because i chose so. People really need to learn how to chill out... And not feeling forced to watch stuff they dont want to.

StrykerEvol

I honestly only watched 4 episodes back in the days and am only now picking it up again with the community. So i would appreciate not seeing to many spoilers.😅

StrykerEvol

In all seriousness? There is no such thing as an anime or game without any flaws. I think it's just a matter of whether the flaws bother you or not. But flat out ignoring said flaws or that people can have different opinions is just plain ignorance.

StrykerEvol

I don't like the way you use "y'all", implying everyone who criticizes SAO just does it because it's popular. There is valid criticism out there too. But i agree that some people's are just ridiculous in how they act towards SAO. It's not that bad of an anime... I also just dropped it back then 'cause i was prioritizing other anime back then. Now is a good time to pick it up again with the community.

2024-02-26 01:37:05 The "genre overdone" comments were always wrong even in 2012. There were lots and lots of other light novels with similar plots, but very few anime other than Dot Hack (which lets face it even as a fan that wants opening reactions I know it isn't action-heavy enough, and too quiet and slow for mass appeal). Now light novel anime are everywhere but the trend of adapting them happened after SAO became an anime not before. all that said the plot fall from grace is very much real. It failed to meet the expectations of a huge portion of its audience

2024-02-26 01:37:05 not sure I can agree with this. For one thing 12-13 episodes were not at all "conventional" in 2012. The pattern of seasonal anime being the standard production model had not yet taken off at the time. It was in its infancy, If anything SAO would have been one of the very first anime to ever suffer from the seasonal anime syndrome

There's a difference between - you know, *the painting isn't perfect, look how blurred this edge is...* And - *see this painting of forest? Yes. Now 90% of haters scream at us that it's a bad painting of a desert.* And no matter how many times you provide actual description of the painting, they keep on coming up with new stuff that doesn't exist there. You just never get to the point of discussing actual flaws

Саша Одинец

Not everyone hates SAO because it's popular. But it's popular to hate on SAO without knowing the plot of it. The two things are not mutually exclusive, and sadly, SAO's hate, popularity of hate in the west as a whole, is built on the second, with many direct examples in the comments here. Thus *majority* of the loud hate is just a nonsense, and fans treat it as such. It's fine to critise something, but attempting it without facts from story, is not criticism, it's slander.

Саша Одинец

I would still avoid big spoilers or going into details for any story episodes of which aren't on the channel yet. At least here, discord has its own section for this kinds of stuff, plus with screenshots from actual story - it's way easier to put the idea across anyway, without people going into battle of wording to avoid facts

Hikaze

i think you should thinking about to watch at least 6 episodes every week because of the "arcs", dont want to spoiler but if you do 6 every week you have 1 clean arc every 2 weeks :)

Rugo

i never though I'd see myself watching this again, this was my first anime that like began my anime journey back in 2013, I've watched like a couple of the mainstream ones like db and a couple studio ghibli movies, but I would say this was my first anime, I did end up jumping on the hate train down the line after watching a lot, but I still respect the first half of season 1 and 2, and the newest few seasons did impress me in its full 2 seasons when they came out

Rugo

I understand the bad things that can come from this, but I've been going to college first majoring in neuroscience but now switching to comp sci with my dream that one day I could invent something like the nervegear someday with a team of researchers, this anime was defintely an inspiration for that dream, but thats not my current career path just yet, I just want to be like kayaba sometime down the line (without trapping thousands of people within a game of course)

I love watching the comments just spam abridged quotes, and I agree, Luke would definitely enjoy watching the abridged as well as everyone watching him

StrykerEvol

Totally agree. Did you see YouTube btw? Some of the hate comments are ridiculous. But i think it's definitely a huge disservice to an anime and it's reputation, if people start generalizing every criticism as unfounded hate or put everyone in the same category. That being said. i can't really judge SAO much yet, since i never finished it back in the days.

rostikowb

@brotato 96 Bro, I can write a bunch of shortcomings myself, even though I rather like SAO than not, if you just write "It's bad" you will be criticized. Add more specifics, and if they are objective disadvantages and not a difference of taste, I will even agree with you

rostikowb

I didn't like it, I gave up about halfway through the first season because I don't usually like parodies very much. But I have to admit, this one is pretty good

Daddelzeit

I really like Sword Art Online. No other anime teared me up like SAO did in it's best moments. And some technologies are coming very close to SAO right now. The light novel mentions a technology that renders the eye focus more detailed then the rest (was explained when Silica inspects the flowers). It's just happening right now in VR-Games like No Man's Sky and the novel was released back in 2009. Just started the light novel 1 month ago.

Melasfo

Tiffany is the best character in the show, you cannot convince me otherwise.

Yes! This is my favorite anime next to 86. I am absolutely thrilled to see your reaction to season 3/alicization! This will be an awesome trip!

Саша Одинец

@rostikowb - brotato already did, and once I replied on discord with pictures from the show to contradict it - got zero replies there, but more here saying I didn't prove anything 😄

Саша Одинец

Yeah, I've mentioned a couple times - most of SAO-hate popularity comes from YT, whether it is from videos with supposed criticism that have millions views but were proven to be just slander, or abridged series that spread misconceptions further by playing a lot of their jokes around them, harnessing a ton of haters for the series too. Some of both types are in the comments here and on stream chat, sadly... If you're interested to look up some debunking of these videos - you can look up articles by Rockytopotaku, or videos from Virtual Axiom. If you'll see the scale of the problem - would be easier to accept why people generalize haters so much)

NanoRyuusei

ALL the OST in SAO are AMAZIIIIIIIIING

StrykerEvol

Well... I am mostly ignoring chat while we watch anime with a certain reputation for a reason. 😅 Thanks for the suggestions though. Will check those sources out after we finished SAO.

StrykerEvol

Honestly? The only parody i kept watching was Yu-Gi-Oh abridged from Little Kuriboh. Never checked out SAO abridged though, since i never got to finish the original and didn't want to spoil myself in case i would pick it up again. Not an abridged series per se, but i do watch a lot of DevilArtemis' parody videos. He is mainly focusing on Dragon Ball, but also adds other franchises. The main characters are usually Cell from Dragon Ball and Kermit the Frog.

Jason Kong

This anime is so amazing, not because of how amazing the plot is, TBH, the plot is just fine. However, it came out at a time when MMORPG is the most popular thing in the gamer world, and GAMER is not wildly accepted yet. It's a death game, yes , but it also pay huge respect to gamers and state how our life and friends in MMORPG are real. Which most of the normies at the time looking down upon. The anime itself, for me is just OK, but it is the starting point of all the RPG game genre anime came after. It an Anime which reflect that era, that's why it's classic.

Dethrox

havent seen log horizon but heard season 2 is pretty fricking bad.. :D so thats kinda funny

WarTalon

The video games are pretty cool story wise. I was surprised that I liked most of the changes. The Fatal Bullet one was really interesting for me.

WarTalon

I feel like the plots are connected well enough. Everything in the end is connected to Sword Art Online and the ripples it created. To me that is enough of a connection.

WarTalon

For sure there is a ton to criticize about SAO and many reasons to not be interested or even dislike it. The show has flaws and it also has some cool stuff. Not everyone has to like but you have to at least acknowledge that it's likely there are way more people who like it than dislike it.

Dorel Nicu

dont wach SAO sez 2 or 3 just this one

CdrCain

I'm really glad you've finally started reacting to SAO! It's one of my favorite animes, despite its problems. I agree with you in that it starts out really strong and I've really enjoyed rewatching it with you. I still get choked up at a few of these scenes. I won't spoil anything but unfortunately the writing quality ends up all over the place. So the show has some great moments but also some really bad and weird ones too. It's where a lot of the hate comes from. I think especially because it started out so strong that people are even more critical of when it gets bad. Its so all over the place that SAO has one of my favorite arcs in anime and also one of my least favorite arcs lol. I am curious to see what you think though.

Exter

I've never seen this many comments on a patreon video holy shit. It's amazing how "controversial" SAO is just because of the hate it got from YouTubers "analyzing" it. In my opinion SAO is by no means a masterpiece but despite all of its problems (that are present in many other anime as well) it does have pretty good arcs like this one, Mother Rosario and especially Alicization. Its overall a 7.5/10 anime for me so I'm looking forward to watching this series with you.

Arctic

One thing SAO hits perfectly is the tone of the world, partially because of the OSTs by Yuki Kajiura, and partially because of the brutalness of the bosses. Like dood episode 2 has a boss that litterally mercs a dood in like a few seconds from full hp to zero, SAO progressives version of the fight is even better since its better animated and more time is spent on pacing.

WhiteDragon6

I do like the original SAO but watching the first season again makes me want luke to react to sao abridged

Jammy Jimmerino

Most important line to take from this stream is that his sister who is actually his cousin does NOT know they are actually related only kirito knows they are related

Zepher

If you think the first episode was awesome, check out the first episode of Log Horizon.

So many just don't read what the anime says, Santa was on lvl 35 and Kirito was lvl 70 at that time so double the level for that floor. Ofc he easily solo the boss as he is still the most OP MC ever.

it's anime like sword art online that ruins people's idea of anime. the authors fetishes being intertwined with anything that could remotely be considered plot or character development, and no actual purpose other than it being basically a self insert isekai like any other is awarded to this story. coming off the back of re:zero, the only reason that anyone recommended this is because of how popular it is. SAO is alright, at times. alicization is alright, and some of the newer stuff like progressive is actually fine, but god does it never end. for what it is, i'm just upset that a slot is being used for something as generic and boring as sword art online, rather than something better

sao abridged really is the only true way to enjoy sao imo

what about how asuna becomes a damsel in distress in core two despite how good of a character she was in core one? everything they built up about her being such a strong and confident warrior was stripped away just to make the self insert the knight and shining armor or what about how the writer doesnt know how to write any sort of conflict that isn't based around sexual assault or some sort of romance fantasy? or the blatant insert of akihiko's fetishes into the story? what about the blatant "kirito is jesus"ness that is throughout the series where kirito is essentially the best at everything he ever does and why is his harem so boring and uninteresting? if you're gonna write a harem, I'd at least like to see some actual character development rather than them all being a "ehhhh??? im so jealooooouos" as they stalk kirito and asuna from the coffee shop from across the street and actually, why is so much of this show just so focused on sexualizing the characters? why is it that for every shot of a girl talking from above the neckline, there's an equal amount of ass or chest shots for no reason, or what about silica? she's definitely a loli character who gets sexualized more than once for no actual plot reason at all. why is the bad guy in core 2 so damn corny? and why does kirito basically befriend the mass murderer from core 1? and sinon, she suffers the same damn fate as asuna, starting off as a strong and confident character, only to be reduced to another damsel in distress for kirito to save. it's like this show literally can not stand any sort of character growth. OR WHAT ABOUT HOW YUI just got brought back to life for no reason at all other than "cute loli" fanservice even though it killed the stakes of the ENTIRE SHOW?? from that point on, we know that from a WRITERS PERSPECTIVE, HE IS NOT WILLING TO KILL OFF ANY CHARACTERS. even when they die at the end, it just reinforces that NOBODY WILL EVER DIE in this show, NOTHING matters i could go on and on and on, but i know the more i write, the less people will read.

ugh, this is it. right here, this is the reason I hate sao. such a stupidly problematic anime was the one to get popular, and make people say "why japan" instead of "why 'akihiko'". it's anime like this that make people think that all anime is this way, and it's just a shame that it's this way

MonographicSingleheaded

Sao's greatest SIN is the writing itself, the author made sure certain developments happen DESPITE THEM BEING TOTALLY ILLOGICAL. that s infuriating. I know that is how many kids would act in that situation BUT STILL ! :) the writing is very forced. I do enjoy and cry even at certain moments, I love how hyped I get, but due to how the author decided to write this, I feel this series aint very good. Enjoyabvle as heck, but many things in life arent good but we still like them. ;) LETS GO ! hahahahaha ( later other sins emerge but he will see for himself )

MonographicSingleheaded

you v known Pina ( which literally means pussy in some languages btw ) for literally ONE SCENE lmao.

Lexi

Yeah. Though to be fair, it is definitely not an SAO only problem. I don't have enough fingers to count the number of anime I would like to have shared with people if not for the underage fanservice. And sometimes it's just because they had to include one single character--one underage girl, because they just couldn't resist the trope, I guess?

2024-02-26 14:28:36 The ln goes into more detail on why he make the game he said it was to watch and see what would happen not a spoiler in the novel it is said in EP 1. Also in the original Kirito was too far to give the heal.

Have you read the original work? The first two episodes make far more sense in the ln books in fact EP 2 was half a book condensed into one episode... The reason for the taking Kirito I don't think the book mentioned the heal pot. And the reason for taking the blame was better, it was to protect rat(if you know you know).

Man. One of my favorite animes, and I still can't see what anyone would "hate" about it. I could completely understand folks not liking it, not enjoying it much, but "hate?" Idk. Also, "harem," in IRL terms, would generally refer to (usually) an authority figure laying claim to a multitude of women for sexual gratification or sireing heirs. "Harem" in anime terms is a stupid ass way to describe shows with a guy protag who has multiple girls orbiting him throughout the series, even though 98% of those have zero actual romantic/sexual relationships between the characters. It's just an inaccurate, ignorant word for the "genre." If any of them actually dated or fucked all of the girls, I'd be fine with the term.

Harley Burnie

There's ONE thing I despise about anime. Those nasty ass sounds they use for the lips licking bullshite. And you backed it up to play it again. What is wrong with you, mate?!? 🤢

theonplay theonplay

I think people have started to "hate" SAO because of it's popularity. If it had the same popularity as any other trashy isekai people wouldn't care, but since it blew up so much back in the day people just get more invested and upset.

Zubleo

I think people have the right to hate it but it is definitely unusual for it to be receiving a lot of hate that it makes people want to go on every comment section or live chat on how much they hate it. These no-lifers will then recommend something less enjoyable than this particular show. Yes, I'm talking about the old as fuck .hack animes that no one gives a shit about. I watched it and the initial episodes made me fell asleep, not to mention the quality of production e.g animation and mixing.

I’m late with this comment, but about humming not being singing - in Japanese it is singing, specifically “nose singing” (don’t ask why). In a direct translation, she “sang a hum”.

hold the fuck up. this mans just said "it would be awesome for something like this to exist"

Love SAO, u should watch all the seasons

Docnox

man, the show did the novels dirty. The books were so much more... R rated, then the toned down show. it was a much more Raw telling.

Davii Powell

Yea season 1 is trash compared to what was in the novels the following seasons made up for it though.

Obscuremango

For why he didn't have the potion, the potion recovers health slowly at that level, it's a regen not instant health, and the rate of damage still going down is faster than the potion would regenerate so ye, would have been a waste of a potion. - book reader

Obscuremango

Luke you need to watch a arigbed after you finish it all. It is hilarious

I just thought about something weird when I rewatched ep5 in this vod. They talk about Sleep PK as though it's stupidly simple to just grab someone's hand and force it to poke their menu. We'll leave aside the entire can of worms that is "no real MMO would show the private HUD to everyone around you" and focus on, wouldn't SAO itself disallow this close contact based on what we know about the anti-harassment protocol from chapter 16.5?
