People outside Japan has a wrong idea of the term "otaku". Yes, outside of Japan is lazily accepted as just to be a fan of anime. But in Japan, being an "otaku" is like a whole dedication as a frik/nerd/super fan of something, no exclusive to anime even if they collect figures or mangas and even other stuff more.

Since your going to watching SAO, I hope you will also watch Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale it's a spin off of SAO. Its definitely worth watching the same with SAO movies.

Gate is good, just remember: This is an ad for the irl Japanese military. It's a crazy way to do propaganda, but there you are haha. The author is a former JDF (with hard right views, it's toned down in the anime) and the anime is partly funded by the JDF itself. This is very apparent as you watch the show, but it's still enjoyable.

i was actually wondering how the shows like parasyte, vinland saga and heavenly delusion got selected? i didnt see any poll or request like overlord even. The only place im not on is discord so maybe it's from there? There's no doubt bookworm is really good, but i get the vibe that the usual crowd on sunday/ saturday may not be the right crowd for it. Maybe if it can get a chance on a different slot..... I saw alot of calls for alliance in the chat in the tourny stream but it really didnt look organised, like some are calling toradora/ bookworm, but then also toradora/ food war, it looked like a group of die hard toradora fan trying to trick everyone to vote for it.... Ah well im hoping WIT studio's next season will kick some ass and bring some more flare, and give it more chance in tournies. SAO will be hogging a slot for 20 weeks anyways, and 2 anime is slotted for sunday from last tourny, so yeh, we in for a wait either way.....

Why "crazy way"? All countries do it. And it is especially relevant for Japan, as their neighbors are the DPRK, China, and Russia. Japan used to rely more on the United States in this regard, but recently the United States has become increasingly unreliable

The alliance is from Discord, but I think part of the problem is that generally the fandoms overlap quite a bit, and that means it doesn’t add many votes. Also there seem to be a lot of people specifically voting against Bookworm because they don’t like that the community is so vocal in their support of it. The tough part is, if not on Twitch, then where? The YouTube audience is even more mainstream than Twitch, so I can’t imagine it ever winning a vote there. Those previous shows were selected from YouTube comments back before Luke wanted to do polls. Who knows if he will continue to do it that way, or start doing polls to determine the next show after Vinland Saga.

some anime are not voted in but rather chosen from Luke as they are either often recommended but with not quite enough votes to win or they peaked his interest from discussions/openings. IMO friday slot seems perfect for a feel good anime like Bookworm but that slot is filled for quite some time. Theres also the problem of getting enough people to recommend it. The majority is guys and/or prefer the usual shonen stuff.As you may notice it started with AoT and moved quickly to heartbreaking anime's and then we had some horny moment. Seems we are now in the "power fantasy" phase. Discord is not a voting place but a place where fandoms can organize.

A welcomed surprise. how come you only do specifically the animes I like xD ? ahah I know not everyone loved that one, but it's one of the most original isekai I've seen. At the very least the manga was one of my favorite isekais.

Well, if you want to get political, it's 'crazy way' because JDF is not supposed to exercise its force other than to protect itself... Hence the name JDF, not Japanese military force/army/navy/air force... You could say that the law preventing Japan from getting its own military force is practically dead, especially with the recent geopolitical issues, but it is still part of Japanese constitution. This anime is fictional, but it could be seen as propaganda for Japan to reclaim its rights to exercise its military forces for offense outside its boundary, or at least it has raised some concerns to the people of those who suffered during WW2.

For context on why Rory killed the bandits. The bandits attacked a merchant and his wife and children. The bandits then violated the wife and kids. Emroy is Rory's god of death. But since the bandits caused unjustified death to innocents, the bandit's received the reward of death.

Anime uses sarcasm all the time, in sub it just usually ends up being confusing so they remove it. Dub tends to either just reword the sub to match the mouths or actually fix it. Same thing with probherbs. (2 birds with 1 stone as an English example)

The word 'otaku' is a lot like the word 'geek'. It doesn't have to be anime or video games, it's anything they mint be obsessed with. There are music otaku, gun otaku, movie otaku... It can technically be anything. He, specifically, seems to be a fantasy otaku
