Bocchi the sweep

This is and last episode is the episodes I've been most excited to see you watch! Let's goooo.

Genetz

The audio is kinda weird Luke, might wanna check on that

Adam

I can't watch this episode without crying. It's just so good

Damaton

The reveal of betty always sitting in front of the door with the flashbacks always gets me

Toasterfinal5

I waited for the entire series for the Beatrice x Subaru scene. She’s my favorite side character !

ArtKi

8:01 It's not that the episodes are 3-6 minutes longer. It's that the episodes are PACKED with So Much Stuff Happening. 15-20% longer episodes - 40-50% more events! 14:59 One thing that's worrisome about Emilia being such a badass and Subaru and his merry band of friends being so effective... I assume they'll be CHALLENGED in S3 20:08 "Big Brother?" They're both Great Spirts and Puck is older. Beatrice thinks she has more in common with other Great Spirits than she does with humans. ---------- I understand there's a lot of stuff in the LNs that was left out of the anime for space. Too bad but there's one thing that would have happened in this episode that was very cool and, despite that, I'm glad they left it out. In the LN Elsa is not QUITE dead. She does some sort of partial regeneration and, without intelligence, shambles through the burning mansion chasing Subaru as he searches for Betty. Keeps trying to kill him. Eventually, Subaru manages to burn up Zombie Elsa. "Well that sounds pretty cool." It is... in isolation. But it's the same thing that happened at the end of season one with zombie Betelguese chasing Subaru in the wagon. The repetition is bad. ------ 34:03 What part of PERFECT TIMING did you not understand? 36:09 "Let's turn Re:Zero into Konosuba!" AKA Isekai Quartet! And the Isekai Quartet movie (after s2) is really REALLY good.

Muligan Shinzuo

Roswaal is VERY interesting, even though everything is "over" he is still helping ram and why is every generation of his family so familiar ? Next episode we finally get to see BEST GIRL in action. Cannot wait for the finale and overlord next.

Pyzlnar

I love this effing anime so much. I love that the overall story is so intriguing and complex. I love that their characters are flawed, yet in a way realistic and relatable. I love that it manages to put "self improvement" themes without them overtaking the plot. idk man, I really wish for season 3 to still be an incredible adaptation. *fingers crossed

Maciek

34:43 that's the face we all make in this moment :D

Vincenzo

Man, I love the relationship between Betty and Subaru

Katerflori

Don't forget the s3 trailer after last episode! :D All these Episodes have been so good and next one will be just as good. It's re zero after all...

Tamus Heath

It's Betty time!!!! My favourite character has finally arrived!!!

Taiga

35:52 He finally revealed his true self. Sin Archbishop of Greed, Luke.

Exter

This is probably my favourite episode in Re:Zero (centered around my favourite chracter) so I was very excited to see your reaction and it didn't disappoint. The second half of the episode is such an emotional rollercoaster. It's impossible to watch it without crying at least once. Your pet anology at the end is also very fitting for the whole situation with Subaru and Betty.

FullHeart

It is the same Roswaal, and it isn't the same Roswaal. Echidna was researching immortality pretty heavily via passing her own soul to a suitable replacement. It's what was happening with Ryuza. It was attempted and failed with Echidna due to incomplete research. Roswaal however seems to have gotten it to work in a way, possessing the bodies of each successor in his bloodline.

Exter

Me too. I'm so excited for season 3 to see more of that

kloos

I was thinking the same, so I came to check in the posts if someone else thought the same. It sounds a bit like audio for YouTube

Some0neElse

I guess you missed the part where Roswaal first enters the library and start reading about soul replicating. So basically he is making a clone of himself to keep living

Just Mate

(Warning:big wall of text) Hey Luke, since Re:Zero is coming to an end this week I wanted to recommend something that I believe you'd really enjoy, not as a replacement (which you already have), but as something entirely different. The thing I'm talking about is Milgram. I doubt that most people here will know what it is, since it's not that known within the anime community, but it's still amazing. It's essentially a fusion between Music and Anime, with some interactive elements, featuring some really big VAs, some of whom you know, like the voices of Tanjirou (Demon Slayer), Rimuru (Slime Isekai), Lelouch (Code:Geass) or Asta (Black Clover). The concept of it essentially boils down to us (the viewers) being a prison guard judging 10 prisoners who have in one way or another caused the death of someone, however the information we get about what they did is in the form of music videos, where the lyrics and animation give us clues that we have to piece together. There are 3 trials in total, allowing us to decide whether we forgive (Innocent) or don't forgive (Guilty) their crimes. The first two trials influence the future trials and the behaviour of the prisoners, while the last one will decide their ultimate fate. The music is really good, the characters are interesting and there is a lot of theorizing that can be done. The easiest way to really see what it's about is to just watch “This is the MILGRAM”, which is their official introduction video. The second trial finished releasing last week, so we are currently at 20+1 songs (Undercover is a song from "our" perspective), but it's definitely still not to late to get into it, since the last trial has still not started. I really hope you do give it a shot, since as I said I truly believe it's perfect for you. Edit: It's on YouTube and the Channel should pop up if you just search Milgram. Either way I hope you have a great day!

Eliana

We can see him googling "soul replication" and "saving a soul to a vessel" on Echidnapedia on Betty's flashback. Also from then on, all successors of the Mathers family have been called Roswaal. Therefore we can only assume he either succeeded replicating his soul, or he's been putting his soul on his kids.

I just love this episode. The sheer amount of tears pouring down of the "Choose Me" chapter is immesurable, and the anime delivered it incredibly well!

Ron Farmer

Subaru! Subaru! Subaru! The lonely happiness in her voice... Finally daring to hope... God I love it and it brings tears to my eyes everytime. This was it, my favourite Rezero episode! It's also nearly my favourite moment in all of anime. Next ep also is my 2nd favourite 😭😂😢😭❤️

Keith Merrington

I haven't seen Overlord before, but I can't imagine it's up to the same standard as Re:Zero (although I can hope).

Keith Merrington

Subaru makes such a cool entrance as he teleports back to the sanctuary with Betty.

Jose Zeledon

you at least know wich how much episodes are left, when this aired we where in completly dark without knowing if the one we were watching was the last

James Courtney

So that flashback and the Ryuzu is where my theory that Echidna isn’t the Echidna we know (which I now call The Witch of Greed). Echidna acts a lot more like empathetic than the Witch of Greed in the Tea Parties. Also, we need to get you to watch the Re:Zero IF stories. It’s not an anime, but the YT channel Echidnut has done all the IF’s that don’t have major Season 3 spoilers and I HIGHLY recommend them as well as the S3 trailer!

Mariokempes

Day #13 of asking Luke to watch Kamikatsu

Matthew Williams

You weren't paying enough attention to Roswaal during the Betty flashback in this episode Luke. Although I'll grant you the anime didn't do a great job of coming right out and saying it. After the Sanctuary and the crippling fight with the invader Roswaal was looking for a book to "Replicate the soul", basically it's a soul transfer spell. Remember what the Arch-mage Razen did in Slime season 2 he killed the soul of that otherworlder kid and transferred his soul into a younger stronger body? This is pretty much the same thing, though the bodies are all different they all are the same Roswaal, he has been putting his soul into each new descendant from the Mathers family that fits his criteria. One Roswaal was even a woman also one of the most powerful heroes in history as well if memory serves. So while the body isn't the same as that Roswaal from 400 years ago the soul is still the same.

Matthew Williams

@Eliana To answer you it's the latter he has been putting his soul into his next of kin.

nik

ever since you first said beako was best girl.... i was waiting for this episode's reaction.... This is one of my favorite episodes of Re:Zero. This and Parent & Child.

Frentzy

Luke becoming like a harem anime main character, wanting to catch them all.

mohal

It gets properly revealed next episode with the conversation with Betty anyway so it's fine.

Custodio

it is obviously not the same rowaal, but it is VERY easy to miss, even with the subtitles. The "first" Roswaal that got the mansion was Roswaal A Mathers. While the Roswaal Subaru and the others meet is Roswaal L Mathers. The extreme similarity of their names lets us assume that only the second name changes, while the primary name "Roswaal [...] Mathers" is inherited from one generation to the next. This next part is purely speculation, but i would assume that since the "first" Roswaal is called "Roswaal A Mathers" (A, the first letter in the alphabet), and the "current" Roswaal is "Roswaal L Mathers" (L, the 12th letter in the alphabet) means, that "Roswaal L Mathers" is the 12th in line to inherit the mansion and Echidna's knowledge (the "12th generation" if you will). As Beatice said, this goes on for over 400 years until Subaru arrives. This part is also an assumption, but going by the fact that he researched souls (the mumbling he does in the flashback "replicating a soul", "saving it in a vessel") and him saying "I have heard about you from my predecessor" heavily implies that he found a way to reincarnate his soul. I strongly believe that this may even the reason that he keeps the name "Roswaal Mathers", and only goes to the next letter as (probably the first letter of) the second name at every reincarnation. But, as i said, this is purely speculative.

charlymoon

not only they always hide her face in the flashbacks, when emilia finishes the 3rd trial and sees the grave she says "I thought this was Echidna's grave", meaning there was a different person

Anggst

bunny barbeque = bunnies having barbeque? prewatched :/

Quagger

"Soul transcription..." would answer this question.

Illiterate Mochi

About the pets thing, I’ve had pet rats for many years and I will probably continue to have them because they’re just the sweetest little beans and I love them. But unfortunately, they only live 2-3 years on average, and it can be really hard getting so attached to them only to have to say goodbye to them after such a short time, but someone once put it like this: Not only do you get to have those precious moments and memories to look back on, but for them, you are their forever. For you, they may only be in your life for a little while, but to you, you are everything to them, and you’re there for their entire lives, and you can make their lives as wonderful as possible. And I think that’s beautiful.

FaerieRose

This is your daily reminder to WATCH SOME SHOUJO ANIME.

Thamor

Read the subtitles "Replicating soul...saving it to vessel" while reading magic books that Witch of Greed the most knowledgeable magic user in this world had made. Answer were given, but who got the answers just couldn't comprehend. So obviously Roswaal was copying his original soul to new bodies as like you said he is human so he had human life span, but his soul could always continue in new body.

StrykerEvol

Damn... I already watched this episode long ago. But it's still making me feel all emotional. That just shows how good this is. 😅

StrykerEvol

So Luke. There is something IMPORTANT you have to always remember. Never ask people who would win in a fight or who is the strongest. The power scaling and fanbattle rabbit hole is a deep and toxic one. But as Stan Lee once said: "... and there is one answer to all of that. It's so simple that anyone should know this. The person who would win in a fight... Is the person the scriptwriter wants to win!" Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4_zFYnnn2Y

Jeff Drake

Luke... we just hit 300 kph.

Pete Bickmore

Daily reminder to watch some MUSIC ANIME.

BRUNO Marques

Roswaal is the same. He hijacks his descendants. Similar to what the bishop did. He learnt from Echidna's research into immortality. Unfortunately, Subaru will suffer more every arc.

Ttsukasa

I teared up at the end. Like seriously, I must have watched this show like 10 times now, why are tears down my face. "I'm weak and honestly can't do anything on my own.... so save me please?" "I'll make sure my moment with you is unforgettable and will keep you smiling forever." I'm so glad you enjoy Re:zero as much as I do Luke. It's an amazing show and imo the best anime in existance due to the MANY different storylines. Now your Pet anology makes so much since. Growing up I had a black and White toy dog Shitzu named simba, A black lab named Ninyo and the fluffiest brown cockaspaniel named Fluffy. Although they are long gone by like 2 decades, the impact these 3 dogs had on my life are burned into my soul and when I think of them, although the memories of individual moments fade, the warmth and emotion that they carried into my life stays hot and fuels me with positive energy. I miss them sometimes but not in a sad way, in a "hopeful" way. I'm a better person because of those goofy good boys. And even now they bring me precious times. I think that's what you mean when you say Subaru and Betty are like that of a pet. The fact that you understood this shows how much this show moves you as well.

BRUNO Marques

It's the same one. He hijacks others souls like a spirit is capable of. You saw the bishop (an earth spirit) do this last season. The reason for this lies with soul contracts which are what spirits do with mortals. You can do the same between any1 with the right knowledge, in this case transcribing a soul into another. This sort of contract works even through Subarus return by death.. but we never seen this happen.

Robin Berglund

A lot of cut content in the final episode sadly. One big cut cliffhanger that won't be mentioned in Season 3 is presented well in Echidnut's "How Re:Zero Season 2 REALLY Ends". So I would recommend watching that after the final episode. Other stuff will hopefully be mentioned in the beginning of s3, like details on Subaru and Beatrices contract.

Adrian Muñoz

Betty's scene is my favorite in Season 2. Satomi Arai (Beatrice's VA) did such a good voice acting on her emotional moments.

Sean

There's major info that they're going to leave out?

Sean

I think that's info that comes in next episode

smth positive_

how do you know we wont get it in the beginnig of season 3? he shoulnt watch that video until we know or sure it hasnt been included till episode 1 of season 3 airs

Stefan

Even this request was repeating over and over again you didn't see it and damn It was hard to guess this:) Beako finally joined the mc's gank, I wonder how many will call him boss or make jokes about him being called boss by Garf:))
