It's not just dominance flip-flop, it's more of introducing everyone's strength's and weaknesses. Britannians always had technological advantage, but Zero could overpower it strategically. Lancelot could overpower Lelouch's expectations of current Britannian military, but being an Eleven as well as untested unit without a proper part in chain of command yet, he's not used until absolutely necessary. And Cornelia is able to dominate Lelouch both strategically and physically. However, things are now evening out with Black Knight getting some serious firepower, Suzaku/Lancelot is proving his worth and is being cautiously utilized more and more, from being a rogue insert, to being a decoy, and now to being a proper backup, and Lelouch being a lot more cautious to not underestimate Cornelia after he got humbled by her last time.

Oh and also, I believe the reason why the fights are so A -> B -> C at this point is to really drive home the Chess sub-theme throughout the show. Lelouch moves his pawns (in this case the JLF) , waits for the enemy to make a mistake (concentrate their forces), and then leads with his King and Queen (Kallen). That said, it IS a trope in older anime so I might just be overthinking it.

This episode is a good example of having to pay attention to even casual sounding conversations and what is only being visually shown without being talked about, as developments happen subtly yet quickly. To break things down in this episode: - Diethard (ponytail reporter guy) was the Britannian applying for Black Knights that Lelouch talked about at the beginning while scrolling through his CV. - Jeremiah and Viletta went to him for his networking connections to investigate the student (Lelouch) Viletta vaguely remembers and thinks could be a lead to Zero, and leak to him the plans for attack on Japanese Liberation Front, not knowing he was already in league with Black Knights. - He immediately leaks that info to Black Knights, as Ohgi tells Zero about the attack and that the source of info was the Britannian applicant. - Lelouch having this information puts his own plan into motion, and leads Black Knights there for the "military exercise", getting themselves surrounded and forcing a "do or die" scenario, setting himself and Black Knights to perform a miracle of beating Cornelia's forces and capturing her. Another thing of similar style continues from earlier episodes of Bartley (the black bald general) after the death of Clovis saying that their research facility where they were doing experiments on C.C. will need to move to a new location in Narita, and now that they are already here, they are freaking out about the action happening right on their doorstep. There is another recurring character being set up in the background that no one notices, because it's done so subtly that you need to make a visual correlation of him being involved in multiple settings, but saying more than that would be a spoiler. I'd invite you to try figure it out by skimming through those "throwaway scenes" of past episodes, but I imagine you wouldn't have time for that ;P

Regarding the repeating pattern of "absolute domination" fights, think about things from the commanders' perspectives. In war, you never want to have a fair fight. You never want near-even forces. You want to be absolutely assured of your victory before the battle even begins. Any time Brittania engages, it's because they are certain that they will be victorious. However, all war is based on deception, and this is where Lelouch excels. He's a master of ambushes, traps, and surprise reinforcements. Even then, he always makes sure to maintain that overwhelming advantage if at all possible. And it doesn't always involve destroying the entire enemy force. In this case, that mudslide cut off his real objective - Cornellia - from most of the rest of her forces. If the Black Knights had to fight the entire army arrayed there, they'd loose. Overwhelmingly. But by isolating a single unit, Cornellia's unit, they were able to turn the tide to their overwhelming advantage. It might make for a semi-predictable pattern, but the suspense quickly ceases to be about *whether* the Black Knights will turn the tide to their favor; the question instead becomes "How will they do it *this* time?"

I think both options are bad. Isn't there any way to equalize the sound? Reduce the jumps so that it's not painful for the ear?

I am watching on a laptop with speakers, so not sure how the sound is with headphones. Between the two I liked the beginning audio more, but definitely still needs the sound proofing stuff. Still not going to stop me from watching though!

The battles in this anime often change the course radically due to two things 1) Britain, instead of conducting a normal fire attack, simply goes into battle with small professional forces, which creates an almost equal battle. They still have to win, but here we add a second component. 2) On the enemy side, there is an impossible genius who calculates all possible moves, knows everything and is prepared for everything, and he also has the super power to brainwash people, which gives him the ability to completely change the rhythm of the battle. But since he does this with the help of tricks, not force, this method is not stable and can backfire.

Yeah you gotta check the audio with a surface level video scroll before publishing it man. That mono one ear sound ain't gonna cut it :D Plus, the "s" and "sh" sounds in that first bit have way too much hissing in them. It actually hurts my ears a bit.

First of all, destroy the audio you used in the intro. Don't just delete it. Put it on a small drive, take it outside, and run your car over it to make sure you can NEVER use it again. The intro audio was TERRIBLE. Secondly, when the scientist (can't remember his name) said that the thing that was used could not do that, he did not take into mind the fact that Kallen used the power of the Guren Mk-II to make the device activate HARDER than it would have normally.--the same power she used to destroy Orange's Knightmare.

I was curious about the geography near Narita (real city east from Tokyo with international airport), I thought that it was a total flatland but looks like there a many little hills around. It's true that his normal audio echoes, but I never really noticed it before. (Maybe cuz i don't usually use headphones) Without them, the intro audio has no echo but feels a little compressed and strange. I prefer the usual, wide room echo audio.

You missed some details in the beginning of the episode. The reason Cornelia decided to attack the Japanese Liberation force is because they finally found out where they were hiding. The reason why Zero showed up there, is because someone leaked that information to the Black Knights. It's the scene right after him handing the key of the mecha to Kallen.

I think the new audio could be better if you can figure out how to get it to work for both the left and right earphones for people who use them. As for why "it's impossible even with the radiant wave surger"; even though the wave surger was what indeed did cause the landslide I think those extra bits that sent the shockwave to the top of a pocket of groundwater is what did the trick here. Mr. smartypants wasn't creative enough I guess

I don't see the "there is never a close fight" point. It has been only like 3 fights up till now and it's obvious that Britannia is gonna have overwhelming numbers all the time. It's not an equal fight from the beginning. It's the forces of an empire that is dominating a big chunk of the world vs the resistance group of an already conquered country. Lelouch always has to use tactics to even has a chance at winning and take big risks for a big return.

Being brutally honest here. The Audio test at the beginning sound like trash (even if I ignore that it primarily only comes through the left channel). It sounds incredibly distorted and compressed. If you didn't have the disclaimer text I may have just skipped this reaction entirely. Your base audio does have a bit of an echo, but it's listenable. I understand wanting to find a fix for it, but I think, even if it takes months to properly get set up, you should focus more on the room itself. Your base audio settings aren't problematic enough to feel you need a rush solution. Hope my opinion helps.
