LET'S CHECK OUT SOME OF THE BIGGEST HIDDEN GEMS IN ANIME!!!!

Here is the FULL and UNBLURRED reaction!!

Enjoy!!

Comments

Oliver Segelhorst

Time to react to the new One piece opening XD

Marcio Neves

Wow! Beside Mushishi, wich I have not watched, all of those are EXCELENT anime. I also haven't watched Utena, but even so I know how great it is considered to be. Very awesome recommendations About Paranoia Agent, it's soundtrack was composed by Susumu Hirasawa. He is awesome, I love his voice. He also composed the soundtrack for Paprika, a movie I would recommend you 1000x to watch ✌️

SILHOUETTE_20

react or add to this list, inuyashiki last hero opening, Hero by Man in a mission

Orieng

God of High School opening

kemplar285

I expected to hear a lot of Ali Project songs here

Dusky

Lain moment

Spat1000

Eureka seven and Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet please react to both and the English one piece openings (not the 4kids one)

Fusssel

I really would love the 5 Symphogear OPs as well but sadly it isn't very well known in the west.

Marcio Neves

Be sure to not be mixing up BoA, the British band (the one from the opening), with BÔA, the Korean singer that have made a success career in Japan ☺️

Toasterfinal5

I was given a heap of early 2000’s anime’s to watch. The sheer enormity of how many get recommended, I should just cancel my western, non-anime streaming platforms. Then maybe, I’ll catch up some time over the next decade. Edit: I plan on watching “Lain” “ Paranoia” in the near future.

Ainz Ooal Gown

if you do another one of these videos, you should add "Tsukimichi" opening to the list.

Marcio Neves

I think he already reacted to that one Edit: he didn't. I think it was in the middle of a "best of something" compilations

Anonymous

Please check the opening and ending of Wolf's Rain, maybe you will like the ending more, I believe you will and an older anime for me brings the same feeling as Ergon proxy, just a little more melancholic.

_TKD_

The first anime I think of when I hear hidden gem is Girls' last tour, I'd love to see you react to OP and EDs of that if you do another one of these

milcasa21

Wasn’t the first heavens feel movie supposed to be dropped yesterday?

Orieng

Agree :) i liked the first few episodes but was ruined for me later, I love the opening, and i wanna see how Luke react to the song :)

Grant Beaudette

I absolutely had to stop in the middle of the Utena song to listen to the D4DJ cover.

Alma

fun fact, the paranoia agent opening is one of the first anime openings ever uploaded to youtube. its a great show too!

Wobbly

You were correct about Paranoia Agent. It has extremely dark psychological elements, I've seen people say they've genuinely felt horrible and uncomfortable watching some of the episodes

Kot Bajun

Paranoia Agent opening is definitely a hidden gem by itself. I have not watched much of the show however beside one rogue episode. Serial Experiment Lain is an older classic for sure. It was vastly known back in the day. Utena is no my cup of tea. So basically I’ve heard of all of them and good things, but really just watched Mushishi out of these 4. I liked the 1st season of Mushishi. 22 episodes, was it? The closest anime I could compare it with is Made in Abyss, season 1 (minus all the childish action and goofy scenes ) with levelheaded version of Frieren main character and the mysterious part of the 1st half of anime “From The New World”. Mushishi got the vibe, alright. It’s “seinen”, meaning it’s meant for adult men ages 18-40 as its target audience. There are not a lot of anime which are seinen out there compared to majority which are aimed at teens.

William Pina

You should react to the OP/ED of "The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today" and "The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses" That way you can see a very divisive studio anime called GoHands If you want you could also add "Seitokai Yakuindomo" to that list too

Martin Snow

The tough part with Symphogear is that the openings are less impactful than the combat songs, but yeah totally agree

Kot Bajun

Speaking off… “From The New World” aka “Shinsekai Yori” is a hidden gem as well. I’m baffled by how it never became popular per se, yet was so talked about. I’d love to see you reacting to the opening sequence “Traditional Song of Shadows” as anime has no real opening, I believe.

Marcio Neves

Some hidden gems of the past (song wise, nor considering the actual story): Wolf's Rain Samurai 7 Peacemaker Kurogane Vandread Visions of Scaflowne Onegai Teacher and Onegai Twins

Ninni

I've seen all of them and they're all great in different ways. Utena is a personal favourite. Yeah, it's a 90's anime (1997), so a bit older. I wrote my undergraduate thesis on the visual symbolism in Utena. It's a bit of an interesting one, and some people can find the structure a bit repetitive, but that is kind of missing the point as the way it's constructed is very deliberate and part of what makes it work. It's deceptively simple at first and building up the deeper, darker, and more complex asoects as it goes along. Also, the last two episodes always sends shivers down my spine. I'm a bit surprised to see titles like Lain and Utena as -hidden- gems though, but perhaps I'm just getting old.

Martin Snow

Vibe check! Mushishi: Just going to the woods for an Ayahuasca adventure Paranoia Agent: "Well shit, now what?" Revolutionary Girl Utena: "Guess our staff is going to start one of the largest anime studios in history" Serial Experiments Lain: "Present day. Present time"

Emlyne Durand

a other hidden gem is wolf rain really a good anime (with cool opening)

Ttsukasa

Shiver -The OP for Mushishi is one of my favorites.

Fusssel

for sure, but this sadly is just for OPs and not for whole shows / first episodes. Also Season 1 has the problem of "just" being a passion project with little budget, so the animation quality is not on par with the later seasons and that also put people of :(

Ttsukasa

SPICE AND WOLF SPICE AND WOLF YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU GOT AND I KNOW YOU LOVE ME :P SO SPICE AND WOLF, It's literally a vibe and Holo is Queen Wifey.

Tatersalad666

I love this idea of reacting to hidden gem anime since they don't get talked about a ton but are really good. I want to recommend Claymore. It often gets compared to Berserk which it is clearly inspired by. It is a dark seinen with tons of gore and violence. Its really sad how few people seem to know about it these days. The anime sadly doesn't fully adapt the story and goes anime original for the last couple episodes because they were out of source material when the show came out. The manga is amazing though, and I am still holding out hope it will get the Brotherhood treatment and get the remake it deserves since so many older shows are getting new adaptations recently.

crazizzle85

Kanon 2006, made by the same group as Clannad. Definitely make sure it's the 2006 version.

Vitaliy Kozoriz

Thanks for the reaction to my number 1 favorite anime and opening and endings is Mushishi(Master mushi). Why it's my number one, because it perfectly reflects my soul, this wonderful atmosphere created by a beautiful ost also while watching it I was on a trip to the sea, lying in the carriage and enjoying cookies that I didn't like before, but now my favorite). Paranoia Agent and Serial Experiments Lain are really underestimated, so I recommend everyone to watch these anime's.

Some0neElse

want more underrated openings? Brynhildr in the darkness OP 1 and 2

Tatersalad666

I also want to second Girls Last Tour that I saw someone else recommend. If you react to that one please do the endings as well. The ending is a banger, and the special ending 'Amadare no Uta' also called Song of Raindrops is really good. All of them are sung by the VA's as well.

Vitaliy Kozoriz

this is the first part, I think there will be many such parts and one of them will have exactly this opening

GTB

Some very good hidden gems indeed! Paranoia Agent is a series by Satoshi kon. Mark my words: anything by Satoshi Kon is a must-watch. He's one of the greats of japanimation, who died far too soon, even though his filmography was perfect: Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika...

Some0neElse

I do hope so... I also hope Watamote is in there somewhere cause this opening is amazing but alot of people sleep on it cause the anime is not to their taste

kloos

You need to react to the full song of Serial experimental Lain "Duvet" it deserves its own video because the full song is just magical and everyone just need to experience it at least one time

Frentzy

Houseki no Kuni (Land of the Lustrous) and shinsekai yori as recommendations. They are also popular but underrated at the same time.

Roxy’s Holy Relic

Lots of peak ecchi anime making a comeback this season. You should also react to the OP’s for Chained Soldier, Gushing Over Magical Girls, and Tales of Wedding Rings 👀

mjaomjao2

Imagine the comfy/sad vibes Frieren has. That's basically Mushishi. Mushishi is such a great show.

kloos

Eureka Seven is highly underrated and for me has the one of the best music in anime (Op, Ed and OST) if I see the LP of the OSTs I would buy it right away if I have the money

kloos

Air Gear Opening Sankarea Ending

FinalMasterM

More Legacy series openings you need to see: - Record of Lodoss War - Get Backers - Tenchi (all of them) - Ah! My Goddess - Slayers - Bokurano

azope

Utena is not realy a hiden gem it one of the clasical of the 90s and still prety popular even today

Anonymous

Paranoia Agent is essentially is the distillation of the post-modern crisis an individual faces and the resulting coping mechanism that allows said individual to somehow function within society. But it being a coping mechanism, shits gonna crack somewhere at anytime. So would said individual consider it the hay that broke the camel back, or the release from the nihilistic loop of the everyday grind?

wildhunt1973

More anime openings you should check out: Doll's Frontline (still one of my favorite openings of all time) Samurai 7

Jonas Ring

I can also highly recommend Girls' Last Tour and Kubikiri Cycle: The Blue Savant and the Nonsense User.

meshi

mawaru penguindrum is my hidden gem.

Aruto

Even if you watch the Serial Experiments Lain Luke probably you can't understand it anyway.

Marcio Neves

Millenim Actress is marvelous. Paprika is fantastic, with plus due to the soundtrack of Susumu Hirasawa. And Tokyo Godfathers is so, so beautiful. I haven't seen Perfect Blue yet 😅

ShadowNeo

I tried recommending them before, I thought I am the only one :)

Anonymous

Hidden gems or no that common openings/anime are my favourite reactions. Eden of the east and Rokka no Yuusha have some good openings if you are gonna do another video.

Tom Boggess

mushishi is a beautifully animated show. It's a little sad, but not in a break your heart kind of way

Lu C

Finally some else recommending Claymore!!! 🎇 There is only one OP and ED, both worth to checkout.

Ira

Ah the ending song of Wolf's Rain always makes me feel like crying T_T I would love more people reacting to Wolf's Rain <3

Yui

Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan (1 opening) Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto (1 opening)

Ira

The title of hidden gems is always a bit difficult for me cause there is so many amazing classics that aren't really hidden gems but aren't really talked about as much nowadays due to them being a bit older series'. And a lot of newer anime fans don't know about them, so are shows like Lain and Utena hidden gems or not? lol These are all awesome stories tho!

kazadori164 .

You NEED to watch serial experiments lain VHS OP the one you saw was the edited remake, not as good as original. Also underrated shows for next vid. "Iden deities know only peace " & " smol and the forest spirit " Haibane Renmei"

Some0neElse

nah bro... every now and then im throwing them as suggestions along Cautious Hero but i guess not many people recommend them and they just disappear in the comments

Mariokempes

I don't think that some of these songs are really "hidden" gems. I mean some of them are pretty popular what views under songs confirm. They are just pretty old You should check Migi and Dali opening from last season, nobody cares about this anime or opening literally, when it's really good song and fits perfectly to the story

TSP

Penguindrum isn't a "hidden gem" lol

TSP

I don't know if he would hate Satoshi Kon shows/movies or love them. Would be interesting if he at least watched Perfect Blue and went from there.

TSP

Girls' Last Tour is an A+ for sure.

Mariokempes

It's honestly hard to really find hidden gem because if something is good usually it's not really hidden that's why I understand it's some old anime songs. Aaa okay you watched anime openings for unpopular anime not unpopular openings i get it. My apologize

TSP

Can't help but think this is just an "anime zoomers have never heard of before" list. All these OPs/shows are very well-known to anyone that started watching anime before the AoT/MHA normie invasion.

Mariokempes

Another openings you should react to are openings from Yowamushi Pedal, it's really underrated even tho all (10)? openings are good and some of them are bangers. Also this anime is one of the best sport anime honestly

FaerieRose

Utena is an absolute classic from the 1990s and we should watch it. The show is often referred to as “the female Evangelion” for its visual storytelling and exploration of teenage psychology. A VERY basic Wikipedia synopses for Utena: ‘Revolutionary Girl Utena follows Utena Tenjou, a teenaged girl who is drawn into a sword dueling tournament to win the hand of Anthy Himemiya, a mysterious girl known as the "Rose Bride" who possesses the "power to revolutionize the world"’.

Blackcat menace

another underestimated anime less so than these I suppose would be Deca-Dence

Mariokempes

Other not really popular anime that have great openings: Coppelion (amazing voice) Selector Infected Wixoss (1st opening is amazing) Gatchaman crowds (both openings great second is one of my all time favourite) Binbougami ga (very catchy)

Nathan

I recommend you the Heike monogatari Opening if you decide to make a 2nd episode of the "Hidden Gem anime openings". :)

Zer0

Lain and Paranoia Agent are the type of animes where you don't understand what is going on even after watching it all the way through.

malkuuusha

I reaally recommend you to react to openings for Jormungand, especially the first one, that’s what hidden gem is. The anime itself is a one huge hidden gem, one of the many others, like The Unlimited - Zettai Karen Children or Level E. Also you 100% should react to openings for Shingeki no Bahamut (half of them is by SIM) and opening for Gangsta (which is another super underrated anime, but less underrated than those I mentioned above)

Anonymous

If you haven't all ready I would also recommend you react to the OP for "Boogiepop and Others" the new one at some point.

Lloyd

Yeah paranoia agent is super nostalgic to me personally. Calling it "hidden gem" ive never felt so old in my LIFE-

syaimaral

Quick summary. Mushishi is about a wandering "medicine man" that travels the countryside healing people and solving problems. Except those problems involve mushishi, something similar to folklore/folktale beasts/bacteria/nature. A really interesting anime I would recommend to anyone. Lain is like a fever dream. It's a future warning to others about not being too connected to the internet all the time. It's also train track/telephone pole simulator. I watched this back as a teenager and it was one of the MOST boring and depressing shows I've ever seen. The haunting opening song is the only thing I like about it.

Valts

Lain is something else. It's on a league of its own - no standard anime cliches or nothing. But it's also a very philosophical anime, which leaves you confused throughout its entirety unless you spend time to peace everything together. If you ever did a reaction to this series (which I would love, if you did), you should spend like at least 10 minutes after each episode or throughout it to try and theorize, what's going on and what's to come. It's that kind of show.

Louispul5

Paranoia agent, like everything made by the genius Satoshi Kon, is fantastic. He specializes in psychological horror. Everyone should watch his work, it's the kind of stuff you can show to people who aren't even into anime. Paranoia Agent is about a harried exhausted marketing executive who can't come up with a new genius marketing campaign to match her old one, and is afraid of getting fired. When suddenly she's beaten into a coma by Little Slugger, a kid on roller skates, and everyone stops expecting her to come up with anything, because hey she's recovering. Then everyone else in the city starts seeing Little Slugger as well. Perfect Blue on the other hand, is about a pop idol who starts to get stalked by someone while trying to switch from a music career to an acting career. Paprika is Japanese Inception. Magnetic Rose is a short horror film about space tow truck drivers trying to salvage a not so abandoned space station. All are required viewing for anyone who claims to like cinema or animation.

Dallio

Barakamon another hidden gem

Sean

Wish more people would react to Satoshi Kon - Paranoia Agent, Paprika, Perfect Blue, Millennium actress.

Digit

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

Sean

A slot for hidden gems would be a great idea. It's always the same shows getting reactions, for obvious reasons. You'll miss out on a lot of amazing shows if you're reacting 100% to popular vote picks. Maybe 90%/10% where 10% is hidden gems? Here's my picks for hidden gems... though they only seem to be hidden for react channels: Ping Pong the Animation Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit Paranoia Agent Mind Game Golden Boy Yu Yu Hakusho Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor Ouran High School Host Club Shiki

Karen Porter

that was mushi-shi's second OP. I'm noticing that you can't really find the actual clip for it on youtube. I wonder if there was a copyright situation that caused that? It's actually a very chill and magical show. I love Mushi-Shi. Paranoia Agent, I own it, and yes it's super messed up. Serial Experiments Lain is another that's pretty dark. Utena is a true classic. It was huge when it first ran but then slipped into obscurity along with many shows. One of my favorite, underrated series would be Air Gear. If you do one of these again, see about adding that one in. The OP track for that is "Chain". Utena, I usually pronounce it "Oo-Tay-Nah" but quickly, if that helps. I don't know if I'm correct, but that should be pretty close.

Jc

Bokurano, Eureka Seven, Mushishi Eureka Seven especially, has such amazing songs.

Karen Porter

I'll start a new comment for this. The last was getting too long. Paranoia Agent is a psychological thriller about varying characters going through super traumatic occurences in their lives and then being taken out by a mysterious figure. The race is on to figure out the origins of and to capture the culprit before more victims are created.

Prohibidibabido

I had a very hard time following Lain. I wasn't personally able to piece things together, so it didn't land with me, but I finished it. Then I had to go on reddit and find some "wth did I just watch?" thread to read other people's theories. I don't think I'm dumb, but I do struggle with symbolism and metaphor sometimes, so this was definitely not the anime for me. I had the same issue with Utena. Lot of symbolism lost on me. Mushishi is my kind of show though. Adventure supernatural mystery with an episodic format. Love that show.

Lu C

Oh yes, Binbougami ga / Good luck girl OP 'Make my day' has great positive vibes + checkout also the music video

Silver

I remember watching Paranoia Agent on Adult Swim while in elementary school and the opening always unsettled me and I had no idea why

Mike Baker

I prefer to think of Inception as America’s Paprika 😜. Without Paprika, Inception would never have been made. Kon was truly one of a kind, and like everyone at the time I remember the shock of hearing the news when he passed away.

Deception

You have to react to katanagatari!!! Have some amazing music

Anas Kournif

there was Kyo Kara Maoh around 2004-2009, more than 100 episode, it was maybe too ahead of its time, it's an Isekai almost 10 years before the isekai hype. And even if the anime version doesn't have sex scenes, it's talking about Lesbian and Gay Marriage in a country that doesn't recognize it today.

Kigeki

I would recommend Texhnolyze and Casshern Sins. They are also pretty cool and not so popular sadly

Kigeki

Shiki is already done tho. https://www.patreon.com/posts/reacting-to-x-x-87882045

Kigeki

And well to Paranoia Agent he reacted in exactly this video here were you are commenting

BlekDimon

All of them are popular classics and by no means they are "hidden", but still glad you reacted to them.

BlekDimon

If I had to recommend some of my favourite anime that might or might not be considered that, I would give those: -Princess Tutu -Girls Last Tour (ending song please) -Land of The Lustrous (literally a gem) -Kaiba -Revue Starlight -Boogiepop Phantom -Maria Holic (anime sucks, but has banger openings) -Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei -Beelzebub -Haibane Renmei -Ojamajo Doremi -Shigofumi

Martin Vaclavik

LAIN is a really good anime, its story is centered around modern technology and with the age of VR upon us, it is more relevant than ever, definitely recommend you to watch it, but it will never win a tournament so probably just in your free time :D

Mike Baker

It’s good to see some older shows in the mix here, it warms my old millennial heart. I think I’ve mentioned this before in the YouTube comment, but the idea that an anime OP should serve double-duty as an advert for the show is a fairly new one that kind of became popular as linear TV declined. Before about 10-20 years ago it was still received wisdom that if someone was watching the OP then, most likely, they were already somewhat invested in the show. (I’m not saying that using the opening to convince people to watch the show wasn’t considered, it’s just that that was more of a bonus, and the primary purpose was to warm up existing fans and get the ready for the show.)

Ace

If we're talking about hidden gems, Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor definitely deserves a mention. Highly recommend checking out the openings and see if they peek your curiosity.

Anonymous

The Spare me, Great Lord! OPs are fantastic. It's a donghua (Chinese animation), the second season just started airing.

BlekDimon

Not a hidden gem, especially if you consider how popular the manga is, but yeah, it's amazing short series.

BlekDimon

Yeah, it dosen't have, it only has an ending, some anime tend to do that, another example would be Sonny Boy. And by no means it's a hidden gem, it's literally one of the most popular psychological anime, and secondly, I personally wouldn't say it's a gem because it's horrible, but that's just my opinion.

BlekDimon

Yeah, they aren't hidden gems, it's just that most of the people nowadays watch shounen and nothing else, so anime like those two just get overshadowed. I'm quite young, just 22, and I watched both of them.

BlekDimon

I don't like how Ikuhara directs his anime, but Penguindrum has banger openings, so that's that.

BlekDimon

Omg someone mentioning Zettai Karen Children xD that's something. It's such a thrashy series, but really fun, especially the 2008 one.

BlekDimon

One of the best openings and endings I heard in anime industry, hands down.

malkuuusha

Well, I’m more of a fan of The Unlimited one. It’s not something deep or mind blowing and writing isn’t the best, but it was quite unique at the time, the plot is interesting and this anime is just fun overall. And of course the mc is just great, this OP charismatic old looking like a high schooler bastard. It’s rare to see such a mc even nowadays

Zolfried

damn i missed this, i would totally recommend Burst Angel.. absolute banger opening.

Moxx

Mushishi - Like a mellow version of Princess Mononoke (one of the Ghibli movies that you watched). Vaguely supernatural, about living in harmony with nature, sort of. The supernatural elements are neither malicious nor benevolent; they just _are_ . Paranoia Agent - By the great director Satoshi Kon. Everything he ever made was gold, though often with deeply disturbing psychological elements. Paranoia Agent is about things going wrong for people until they break. There may or may not be supernatural elements involved. As in, you the viewer may not ever actually be sure. Revolutionary Girl Utena - Symbolism on top of symbolism on top of symbolism. A girl who wants to be a prince, and the princess she's decided to save. The director has become well-known for very trippy anime. Utena is one of the first "deconstruction" animes (specifically about magical girls), before "deconstruction" came to mean "make everything horrible". Serial Experiments Lain - Utena is positively tame compared to how trippy Lain is. It dove into the ideas of the internet and social media before most people even understood what those ideas meant, and did so in a way that still feels realistic today. But don't expect to understand it the first time through, because it's not always obvious what is even real.

_TKD_

It's not less of a hidden gem than Mushishi or Serial Experiments Lain. So if they work for this kind of video, surely Girls' last tour also does ^^

BlekDimon

From my perspective none of them are hidden gems, they are just little less popular, that's all. All of those 3 are popular enough that I heard of them in my first year when I started watching anime. It's hard to describe what would count as hidden gem. Do series like Princess Tutu or Revue Starlight count? Honestly, no idea, maybe, they aren't hugely popular, but are still popular enough that I see people talking about them.

BlekDimon

I mean, in the main series he's an antagonist, but overall I agree, he's a great character.

_TKD_

Yes, it's very vague. In the end, he asked people for these and picked the most requested ones, so of course the first ones won't be that "hidden"

malkuuusha

Yeah, I know, but I didn’t like the rest of the series that much, and what makes him antagonist is the fact he is against the protagonists and that’s basically it haha (well, he ain’t even against them, they just don’t like his ways of pursuing his goal lol)

Cris

The Garden of Sinners, Chihayafuru, Astra Lost in Space, Those Snow White Notes, Kono Oto Tomare! Sounds of Life. Would be great to see you react to OP & ED

Kalbenus

I love the opening of Paranoia Agent. The anime is very interesting, and as mentioned by Moxx, it explores psychological elements. I highly recommend the anime.

Kenny Vu

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Girls Last Tour would be great to see together

rostikowb

Blood C

Brian

Two anime titles from 2017 with, imo, banger op's: ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., and The Laughing Salesman. The first one's op is called Shadow and Truth, by One III Notes, and the second is called Don't, by NakamuraEmi

Eliana

For hidden gems, I'd go with: - From the New World - Humanity has Declined - Oddtaxi

Valrenas

Little slugger.... never have watched Paranoia Agent, don't need to get more paranoid

Jose Zeledon

zetsuen no tempest

Anonymous

the anime i think are hidden gems are Kino's journey, Kenichi the mightiest disciple and Yona of the dawn.

SuperSickMedia

I recommend doing the Boogiepop Phantom OP and ED as well as the Boogiepop and Others OP and ED

malkuuusha

Yeah, I get you. So many lit anime that were popular at the time you’ve watched them, and now no one even knows or remembers them ;( Hard to be old

Jacob May

Paranoia Agent, without going into spoilers, is about how public consciousness grows into something greater than any one person can ever think of controlling. It is definitely a confusing show, full of psychological elements/themes and is something to sit and ponder over rather than a show that tells you whats happening outright. If you do ever react to it, it would be a good show to have a long discussion section for. It was made by the late Satoshi Kon, my favorite director. I also recommend "Perfect Blue" or "Paprika" as movies of his that you should watch.

Chicken Permission

Oh! I really want you to check out the opening to a show called "Baccano!". It's such a good show, but it's so hard to get ahold of the actual show nowadays without pirating.

patros36

Still hoping you would check out some donghua (chinese animation) OPs. Really recommend: Da Wang Rao Ming (Spare me Great lord), and Wu shan Wu xing (Fog Hill of Fice elements). Both have great openings. Plus recommend checking out Lookism, a korean animation with Opening from Ateez.

Patrick Jacobsen

some hidden gems for me (at least i believe them to be hidden gems) are: "shakugan no shana", "Code Breaker", "s-cry-ed" and "getbackers". but thoose are just of a few I have in my storage.

Rinnosuke

On Anime dear to my heart is Dantalian no Shoka. Likely cause it was one of the first Anime I watched, but I watched every "reading" scene over and over.

Rinnosuke

One of the funniest and weirdest shows out there, also studio Shaft's animation style fits this story really well.

Eric Michel

Another anime i'd like you to discover about it is "Kara no kyoukai". Its format is more like movies (about 1h30 each episode), and it's quite dark. If you want to look about only one piece about it, i'd love to hear about the first ending, "Oblivious".

BlekDimon

Yeah, it's just more so of an issue that they have differents views on the world; Kyousuke's organization is viewed as a crime one, and The Chilren work for the "good guys".

Ale

I knew your reaction to Paranoia agent was going to be like that hahaha I do recommend the anime tho, it's pretty much a spoiler to tell you what it's about, it's a psychological story and it's best that you go in completely blind Serial experiment LAIN is kinda about the abuse of technology very ahead of its time but really good. Haven't watch Utena or Mushishi but I know they are good! A hidden gem for me will be Barakamon, I love it, it doesn't have a complicated plot like these 4, it's actually pretty lighthearted and funny ❤️

David M

Hidden Anime gems? Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. Good luck getting a proper subtitle job done on it though. The background art in every scene is packed with gags and the show itself is a comedic meta-commentary on mid-late 2000s Japanese Society. Another gem is Bokurano, which is so obscure that the OP "Uninstall" has only ONE video on youtube in 240p. It's npt the best anime, but it's a GREAT way to speedrun depression.

Martin Boudrias

Not only did Hirasawa do the soundtracks for both, but both were directed by Satoshi Kon as well.

Digiflash

Still waiting for these Pokémon Opening Reactions... Maybe this year? :D

Solar

paranoia opening reminded me a lot of a few songs from berserk I even thought the paranoia was from the same singer cause of how similar the voices are. check out Forces, or Hai Yo. from the berserk series. very catchy songs

Riley LUCAS

has the aoashi op and ed been reacted to?

PSadlon

So popular that "Mobile Suit Gundam The Witch from Mercury" was often compared to it.

PSadlon

Stray (from Wolf's Rain) was definitely an awesome opening.

Thomas M

Paranoia Agent is great and it is something you probably ought to watch on the channel. Your impression of it was mostly correct. Lain would be good if you start running low on things to watch as it is excellent but it's old so most people haven't seen it. It was very prophetic with regards to the internet and how people interact today.

Combine that with Bubblegum Crisis (including Bubblegum Crash & the adaption, Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040).

The OPs for Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki OVA 3 & Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar (AKA Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari) might require Tenchi be Patreon only a/o censoring of the video for the sake of YouTube monetization. That said, Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki OVA 1's OP is hard to find and few think of including Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure (one of the precursor shows to Tenchi Muyo! GXP). Tenchi Universe & Tenchi in Tokyo are alternative canon.

You should react to both the spare me great lord ops, it is a Chinese animation and the visuals of both op slaps just as much as the song. You haven’t reacted to much Chinese ‘anime’ ops so spare me great lord ops would be great. Thank you and keep up the good content.

Glad to see this r action! I had been asking for Paranoia Agent and Lain OP reactions for a while, so I am really happy to see this, even if heating them described as hidden gems makes me feel old. As for other reactions, I would like to see reactions to the OPs for Baccano, Katanagatari, Wolf's Rain, and Eureka Seven(pronounced Eh-oo-reh-ka). Kara no Kyoukai/Garden of Sinners is an anime film series I would love to see you react to, it has a gorgeous soundtrack by Yuki Kajiura, who also did the OST for Madoka

The moment i heard Luke mention Paranoia Agent, i was like: "Oh... Looks like we finally got to that point. Have fun Luke!" I certainly did not get disappointed by the reaction.

Serial Experiment Lain is a great anime. Definitely an underrated gem. BUT, people who get easily depressed or can't deal with psychological topics (like abuse, bullying, suicide, existential crisis e.t.c.) should maybe stay away from it. Let me put a quote from the anime here: "Do you want to hurt yourself too? Do you want to feel your mind scraped by a rasp? If you want that never turn your eyes away."

Desolane

Almost all of these are only "hidden gems" outside of Japan. Mushishi in particular was showered in awards, both the manga and the show, in Japan and Europe.

FabledJarl

Here’s a hidden gem anime I would love to see you react to, GOSICK. It’s got some really good openings and endings.

FinalMasterM

Sadly it's hard to watch or see anything Tenchi in complete without piracy. Shame for a legacy series to be treated as such.

Rohim

Sonny Boy is a relatively recent anime (2021) with an underrated opening: Shounen Shoujo by GING NANG BOYZ. Storyline's can take a while to get, but the show has some really awesome OST interspersed throughout the show.

Harley Burnie

Damn. I’d love to see Itaden Deities Know Only Peace make one of these reactions. Might be my favorite OP ever.

PSadlon

IKR. Especially on that introduced the modern harem genre.

Episode 8 of Paranoia Agent is one of the best episodes in anime out there.

The first song i kept thinking she sounded like Billie Eilish. I don’t really know Billie Eilish that well tho so i could be way off.

Kaning Guliko

Mushishi is a gem 💎

Smime

That Paranoia Agent opening makes me think of "Paprika", a Thriller/Sci-fi anime movie from 2006. It's a weird one

Smime

(just checked and the music is composed by the same guy "Susumu Hirasawa", makes sense then sorry)

skrrt

luke reacted to a 5sec clip of it cus it reached top 5 best openings of 2021 or 2022 (forgot which)

Adam Saunders

OMG YES she does sound like the singer for daughter

I recall Paranoia Agent was on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network growing up. If memory serves, there is an underlying story about series of unsolved murders. But the main focus is seperate individuals lives. It's a slow burn that had an edge of something that had a good enough horror/suspense element that had me regretting attempting to watch it at 1 or 2am growing up. Very few anime have actually pulled off being scary. This is one of the few that broke the mold. I should go back and watch it now that I appreciate slow burns more and also like piecing together the mysteries.

"A magnificent mushroom cloud in the sky", and you can literally see it in the background🤨Were people thinking in Hiroshima and Nagasaki like that, wtf??? Serial Experiments Lain op is notice
