Subaru probably thanked Puck (that broke the contract with Emilia, lost a lot of power in the process and is now resting in Frederica's crystal) when he used Shamac on Garfiel to blind him and stab him with the stone, so that Puck could absorbe Garfiel mana to de-transform him. Also, is actually a bit complicated to undertand at firts, but the little scene at the end between Subaru and Garfiel probably refers about how Garfiel discovered Subaru in the Trial room when he was basically writing a love letter for Emilia. That' why he got embarassed.

I do agree with you that Garfiel and Frederica's mother made the wrong call in leaving them then. However, I do want to point out that because of how the Sanctuary works, she was the only one that COULD go, because she was human and thus not stopped by the barrier. She couldn't "find someone else". Now, is there more to it than that? Was there some pressing need to find the father, or was it just her wish? I can't say, because I don't know. Maybe it will be brought back up in future seasons.

Okay, quickly and without spoilers: "Witch's Daughter." Lots of speculation but nothing confirmed. One possible explanation will come in this season, but not saying what it is or when it is. You'll figure it out, I'm sure. Give yourself some credit, Luke. You are a hell of a lot smarter than you let on, and your ability to analyze things is far superior to mine. I had to watch this series from the beginning over half a dozen times and I still find stuff that confuses me, or answers to questions that were very well hidden in subtext and one-liners. I will give a teensy hint for you right now, going into the next episode: Someone said the following line. "Then, you've left me behind as well, I suppose..." "Unseen hand... Unperceived Impact... Divine Providence..." Subaru's new Authority, brought about by his Sloth Witch Factor. Echidna stated a few times that Subaru was now in possession of a Witch Factor. Mastering it is very difficult because while the Factor "chose" Subaru to be it's new host, Subaru isn't very slothful, yet isn't entirely at odds with this unholy force now inside of him. The novels (web and light) explain this much later, but to give you a bit of useless knowledge that won't help you very much: Subaru is special. Exceedingly special. He is capable of harboring Witch Factors and not being corrupted. This will become very important in Season 4, if we ever get a Season 4. Still waiting on 3 at the moment. Right now, just accept that Subaru has this power. However, something you might have missed (and I sure as hell did first few times through) was when Subaru charged Garf in his Tiger form. Subaru said this: "You'd better survive this, body!" Then chanted his only other power, using Shadow Magic: Shamac. He had been told, SEVERAL TIMES, that his gate, the thing that people have that allows them to use magic, was in serious disrepair and if he kept using it, it could be destroyed. Well... "CRACK!" Guess what happened? He thanked his body for letting him get away with using it. That's it for this episode. Oh, and Luke? We're in fourth gear now, 120+ kph. Next few episodes will throw us into fifth gear. Then we kick in the afterburners. You're doing very well figuring out things, but... well... you did shocked Pikachu face a few times this episode. Do some facial exercises is all I'm saying. Warm up a bit before the next few episodes.

Aaahh, finally, we see the witch factor that jumped into Subaru after killing Betelgeuse, that’s how he was able to go to the witches tea party. Also Puck isn’t dead, he’s just not residing with Emilia, he’s also not manifested into a physical form, but just bc we can’t see him, doesn’t mean he’s gone, Puck cares for Emilia, so he’s probably always nearby in some way

The way Emilia mimics Subaru's introduction style at the end there is too cute. I think that's probably why she called herself a witch too, since Echidna threw out that witch's daughter comment and Emilia is just taking a 'yeah so what?' kind of attitude rather than letting it trip her up. Good to see her being confident and not afraid of her past anymore.

The confrontation with Garfiel was great. I especially loved how the focus was on not doing things alone but on teamwork, since not only does that work against Garfiel, but it applies to Roswaal as well. Roswaal' bet with Subaru all depends on their opposing ideals. Roswaal believes Subaru needs to abandon everyone else and only dedicate himself to Emilia, while Subaru believes the better path is everyone working together to achieve something greater. So far it seems like Subaru's approach is beating out Roswaal's, but will it be enough to conquer the mansion and also those pesky rabbits? Guess we'll find out.

And now it's not a spoiler. Garfield hated Subaru in every timeline where Subaru mentioned completing the trial. Something Garfiel could not do, that ground his life to a halt for 10 years. In timelines where Subaru forgot to say he completed the trial, Garfiel was his friend.

About why Subaru now has the unseen hand: Echidna already explained in her conversation with Subaru, that with the death of Betelgeuze, the Witch Factor of Sloth (which until then Betelgeuze possesed) got transferred to Subaru (and i do believe she also said that she "awakened" it with her "tea"). The Unseen Hand is the "authority" of sloth, and since the witch factor now resides in Subaru, he can use the unseen hand, just as Betelgeuze did. However: this is the first time he ever used it, so he cannot really utilize it effectively (and the scene also suggests that it comes with a "backlash").

The one thing that consistently debunks Emilia being the witch of Envy (Satella)'s daughter is simple: They're half-elf. For that to be possible the dad would have to also be half-elf and half-human (we presume the other half is human(?)). Which isn't the case.

First of all I wasn't trying to correct Luke, I just gave my explanation based on the information I got from watching the anime only, that's why I said "probably", is important that you understand this point. Second, if you know your version is correct for certain cause you read the novel, good for you, but there are nicer ways of tell others (like the guy who replied before you). Garfiel cannot smell the Witch’s Scent. The LN explained that it was Shima that can smell it, and it was only after she went through the trial. It’s why when Subaru dies and first meets Garfiel again, he acts friendly. It’s only after he can talk with Shima does he get aggressive.

First, during the battle, when he says thank you after casting Shamak, we he his magic gate breaking. From this point forward, he will probably not be able to cast magic anymore. Probably also the reason why he can access his witch factor easier, the one he got when killing Sloth bro. Second, remember he's got Return by Death from envy. We've seen Sloth witch use the same ability as Sloth priest. When he met Gluttony, he was told not to touch her. Was that because she could feed on his memories just like Gluttony priest and the whale, Gluttony's creation, could? Most likely, the witches share the same abilities as their priests. So Satella probably also has Return by Death. That would explain why she loves Subaru without seemingly ever meeting him before. So, why would it be so inconceivable that Emilia would end up becoming Envy? Don't even think this is confirmed in the novels yet, just a wide theory, last I heard anyway. Regarding Subaru potentially doing everything before, and Satella being the one who has Returned by Death. Go back and check the first few minutes of the first episode of season one. Subaru doesn't get hit by truck-kun even though it looks like it would happen. He ses the car pass, then he's transported to the new world. What if he was hit by the car the first time around, and that's how he was isekai'ed the first time. Just a thought. Sorry for the wall of text, just wanted to share some of my personal theories on the whole Emilia vs. Satella thing.

Oh might be. I'd always interpreted it as Garf storming into the sanctuary after beating Otto and Rem into the ground, hearing a lot of emotions going around, and backing out of that situations slowly because he's 14 and didn't know how to interrupt that whole thing, but it could also have been what you said.

The reason why Subaru was so embarrassed in the end is because Garfiel had seen what he wrote in the Sanctuary. Subaru thought that only Emilia would enter there so it's understandable. But Garfiel saying that Subaru is a desperate dumbass was so funny though 😂

When Emilia says that she's the witch she doesn't mean it literally. "With of The Forest" is what people used to call her when she lived there so you can say that it's her nickname or title or something. But Echidna calling Emilia a witch's daughter is interesting. Whether it does mean something or Echidna is just being mean, we don't know yet.

After finishing the series, I really want to recommend you Re:IF stories, they tell "What if Subaru did it in another way". Basically describe the different routes of Subaru's actions. Some of them really bittersweet and in some of them Subaru becomes the main antagonist in the story. These are just for your own time, since there is no anime adaptation for those. But still, these are worth your time, i can promise that.

This is an issue of a mistranslation. Garf simply said "I saw" rather than "I saw YOU", it was a very vague statement that the translator inferred wrong. What he saw wasn't Subaru but what Subaru had written on the walls, and the following scene with Emilia is supposed to show us this.

Best explanation I've heard so far. The subtitles is pretty vague but I bet the original Japanese was specific on what Garf saw.

The "Thank you" and shattering sound was Subaru's mana gate breaking. Remember, Felix warned him that it needed time to finish healing, and any spell casting might do permanent damage. Sure enough, his mana gate is permanently injured. He will likely never be able to use his own gate to cast magic again. As for the hand, Echidona and Betty both mentioned the "sloth witch factor" that Petelgeuse had, which was what gave him his powers. Betty asked what happened to it, Echidona confirmed it was inside Subaru and used her tea to help him adjust to it quickly. Subaru now has the Sloth witch factor. This is a double edged sword, and it's not explained in the Anime, but using it feels like he loses part of himself every time, thus the vomiting and him saying it left a "bad impression for a new skill".

Yup! Those "What-ifs" are incredible, if you love Re:Zero. So many times during the anime or novels, one could wonder how things would have been if a moment's though veered Subaru's life just 2 degrees left or right of fate. Garfield's mother went to help/find their father, I don't think the trip was suppose to be a long one and she left them with "baby sitters" the Ryazu's. You say you wouldn't leave your kids yada yada but I'm sure you've went to the store to get pampers. Imagine you hug the little bitty ones, say you'll be right back with something nice (like its their birthday or something), get in your car, and get hit by truck that lost it's breaks. Garfield's mom's fate is similar to this, except it was a bunch of giant boulders instead of a bus. Remember, the villagers took only 3/4 hours to get to the sanctuary by wagon. Who knows how long she planned the trip to take, few hours? 2/3 days I'd imagine. She clearly loved her little cat family. Sometimes bad things happen to good families and I'm not sure why. But I like to imagine mom loved me as much as well.

Puck did not die. Please try to get the facts straight. Breaking the contract and dying is not the same thing. Puck breaks the contract with Emilia because Emilia needs to face her past to surpass the trials but the contract is keeping Emilia from remembering her past. Also, remember when Subaru was at the tea party Echidna said Subaru has the witch factor of Sloth. It is because Subaru defeated the previous owner of it which is Petelgeuse. That's why Subaru can use the invisible hand.
