Pleeeeease just for one time only, dont watch episode 9 of the directors cut and instead watch episode 16 and 17 (same content) of the original version of the show The directors cut ruins one of the most memorable scenes of the season IMO by replacing the ending song with less impactful OST. The scene is MASSIVELY downgraded without it, I really dont want you to miss out on how good the scene original was watching it this way wont affect anything else, itll just make one scene so so much better, please watch the original 2 episodes in just this one case (sorry for reposting the same comment i just reeeeeeally want you to do this lol)

when you finish the season i would definitely recommend watching the "Re:Zero in 8 minutes" Also you keep bringing the "he can oof himself and restart". No, he cant. From what he knows he could be starting from way back at his first day in the mansion. And while its true this could massively improve his fighting skills and knowledge of the world i think it would also make him lose his innocence and probably gain Rosewaal's and Rem+Ram's trust harder

So Luke (no spoilers here btw, just clarifying something that's never really explained well), you seem to have a huge misconception about how Return by Death works when you said he can just become better at everything if he wanted to. While it's true that he retains his memories from his past lives, that doesn't apply to his physical state. So, things like swordsmanship wouldn't really work because his body won't get any stronger with a restart. And then there's the psychological effect of dying, especially since he literally feels all of it and remembers that feeling. Plus, he has no idea or way to control when the last checkpoint was and has no idea if this power is unlimited. For all he knows his next death could be permanent.

It's so refreshing to come out of last episodes dumpstefire of the comment section into your reaction to this episode. Absolutely love how you actually look into the character like they are people and not just a random harem protagonists. An something you mentioned. Voice acting is just stupidly good... Betelgeuses' VA is very well know in the industry but he usually gets different kinds of roles (funny enough, either a popular MC or straight up harem MC) but he does A++ job here. Funny how some people think English dub can even come close to this.

tI will always remember exactly how i felt the first time I finished watching this episode, 7 years ago, i cant even believe its been that long. it usually takes a lot to affect me so much from an anime, but i was so shook after this cause of how insane and how incredible and how messed up it was. Remember when we said Re zero was peak (pain)? Many people don't make it to this episode and drop re zero, or don't understand the message it is trying to give. Happy to see that you understand. Best part of the show has always been how the shows characters grow throughout their trials and tribulations, and I don't mean just Subaru's. Heh Glad to see you're enjoying it so far. If there are any misconceptions, i'll note it in the future.

But a little veryyyy interesting fact that was not shown in the last episode but it was in the book series (original source) when Subaru and Al (the knight helmet dude with Priscilla) were in the dragon carriage together going to the Royal Election, Al actually stated to Subaru that he was from Japan on Earth just like Subaru was. That's where we see a bit more lore on the world of Re:Zero. Subaru wasn't the only person who was teleported to the world of Re:Zero. Al was also isekai'd there.

Dang tears have been shed. I absolutely love Rem. Some things about the first and 2nd half: people are surprised when Rem said Subaru is special because what they see is an ordinary guy with no special abilities or strength whatsoever. It's like the reaction when you see some hot model with an average looking guy and you're just like wth why she dating that guy. She could do better. Ah! It must be because he has a big di---. JK. But yeah they don't know the unbelievable things that Subaru has accomplished in the short stay with "the clown family." So if someone with ability respects him, they are like OH, there must be some hidden feature about him we aren't seeing. Subaru has a savior/hero complex in the first half which REALLY rubbed me the wrong way. Like only I can save you, you can't do anything without me. He isn't entirely wrong with how bad things go down when he isn't around, but he isn't entirely right either. 2nd half: You see snow, you see ice. What does that immediately remind you of? *points to you* CORRECTO!!! Puck, the fluffy little cat that we have seen change his size!!!! Which should answer the question of who he refers to as his "daughter." I think the anime has hinted a couple times that if something happens to Emilia, per contract, Puck will nuke the place by solving global warming. Side note: Since Rem, Ram, Betty are the few good guys that can smell Subaru's bad witch B.O., don't you think they will catch on that something bad will happen soon whenever Subaru flares up and starts smelling like a sweaty sock????? I hope the smell wears away over time. Otherwise, I can't imagine how they can bare standing near him.

I fully agree that Subaru is "one of the best-written characters" especially due to how realistic he is. I actually take it a step above and to me, he's THE best character I've ever seen written in fiction, you already see him as top tier and you haven't fully even dented/scratched the surface of him. Heck, I'm an anime-only and I assume I haven't since the LN (light novel) is like 4x ahead of the anime. When you hit the first big part for him I'll be dm'ing something personal here on Patreon. <3

hmm you talk about Subaru 'resetting' like it's the easiest thing in the world to do. He has to commit suicide. Also, if he wanted to train and keep resetting, he doesn't know where the checkpoint is when until he comes back alive. It's not always possible to go back to the same point in time when resetting.

Julius helped Subaru. Subaru being his naive clueless self was making enemies of the lagunican knights. He overstepped his bounds and soiled their name in their turf by self proclaiming himself a knight. Julius knew that he'd soon reap the contempt of the full knights order. So he punished him. Brutally and publically. So that at least his life will be spared. Once u get to know Julius, youll see why that arena duel is out of his character. Subaru abandoned the option to get stronger. Wilhelm can tell. Therefore he will no longer teach him. Thats the bulk of what wilhelm told him. Abother thing to remember is, people's obligations and wills are different varying on the person. Beatrice isnt obligated to help those she doesnt care for. Roswaal is however, so yeah.. where is he? When Rem said Subaru was special, they weren't stunned by the word, but her profession.

Everything resets everytime Subaru dies, but the only thing which isn't resetting is Subaru's smell, because he isn't washing. As you mentioned, he's wearing the same dress since he first came to this world. And it's only getting stronger, but ain't resetting. That's what Rem meant in the end of the episode.

There's a lot of things going on at this point, so it's really easy to miss who it is until it's revealed. i disagree with it being a spoiler per se at this point. Its so clearly Puck. By this point in the series theres only one character who called emilia his daughter and he also changed sizes in one of the first episodes so we know he can do that. And to make it even more obvious the whole surrounding is freezing as in a couple episodes earlier when he had to spend mana and he always spends in the same way since he do be the great frost spirit (which was also known at this point since he plainly stated it himself). So if you actually paid full attention to the series you can see it was never meant to be a secret at this point and i also remember the episode discussions at that time not even questioning wether or not that was Puck.

Tiger = cat, he didn't paid attention and said dragon but you can easily see it's cat like figure. Like the whiskers and such, so those who spoil it technically it's not a spoiler because if they tell him: "just rewatch the silhuette and pause". In under 10 sec he will get who that is. It's one of those few times where he actually was living in the moment and stopped hyper analyzing like he always does. About the creature in the ending: there are very distinct hints on WHO could be that creature. We have seen the mansion covered in snow before, and we also know a few characters that are either confirmed to be capable of using ice magic, or magic-uses that could be capable of using it, even if it isn´t revealed yet. I wouldn´t even telling the name consider a spoiler (as other people) because all the hints have been revealed in what he watched so far already. And these hints are: they´re in the mansion (obviously), they know the residents of the mansion, they have someone they call their "daugther" (which is a MASSIVE hint about which 2 people have this relationship to each other, since this has already happened before), and we also know which residents of the mansion are powerful enough to accomplish what happened. We also know people that are either confirmed to be able to, or are at least confirmed to have abilities that let you almost certainly assume to be able to use ice magic (it should be pretty obvious that a sudden snowstorm and temperatures that are low enough to immediately freeze off fingers, as well as freezing a body solid are not a natural phenomenon). As someone else also pointed out: even the appearance has significant properties that only leave one conclusion.

Also also, that beast at the end was Puck! Subaru was again too late and had everyone was lost so Puck was rampaging, hence the blizzard. Puck refers to Emilia as his "daughter". I don't think that's a spoiler since it's now in a past life for Subaru.

The only reason you remember that scene as much as you do is BECAUSE the ED played through it originally, not because of anything to do with the scene itself. You missed out on knowing who the "monster" is because of it. Maybe you can't recognize the voice, but I immediately recognized it as being Puck's VA because nobody else in the series sounds similar, so even with the minor added vocal effects it was obvious. Watching along with Luke's reactions, this is my first time seeing Re:Zero and I instantly recognized the monster for who it was. The general form taken, powers shown, the "daughter" reference, and the voice as well... It would have been a surprise if it WASN'T Puck. The only way it's potentially a spoiler would be if the viewer hasn't seen Memory Snow, which laid out just how powerful Puck really is, but it's been watched as part of this reaction series. Luke may not have instantly recognized him, but I guarantee he realized it without the comments. I will say, I do now understand why people in early episodes were urging him to skip Memory Snow - the base series without the OVA inserted there would have made it far less obvious what is happening in the final scene here.

Yeah, this is my first time watching Re:Zero and I wouldn't consider this a spoiler, the only way it could have been more obvious would have been a giant neon "PUCK" name tag stapled to the creature. It's a giant cat in the middle of a blizzard with Puck's VA making reference to their "daughter" in the end. If Memory Snow hadn't been watched, maybe it would have been a lot less obvious, but this was so heavily foreshadowed that it was the least surprising thing in the entire episode.

Petelgeuse IMO has the best VA in the whole anime. That thing at the end is called the Beast of the end. And if you hear the lines again you'll recognise the VA behind it. Yes rem, ram and Emilia are strong but that's in a fair fight. When fighting and having to defend the children that becomes way harder. It would even be possible, that ending himself between 2 saves would create fluctuating savepoints, which jump between older savepoints. Maybe even with no way to get back on track. I agree with mohal. The harsh reaction are mostly because people are tired off spoilers. Especially since even Luke disproved multiple times of such comments. Which is why he apparently has started to watch certain anime in advance before posting older reactions. I can not speak for everyone. But we are sorry if you felt bad because of certain comments or because you may have been attacked. Those reactions are usually no personal attacks, but just acts of frustration for the most part. I think the most important factor is, that people are forgetting that Luke is still a beginner who just recently started. He didn't watch many anime yet, never mind touching certain genres. So differentiating between voice actors and understanding common anime concepts like transforming spirits, are still new and difficult to him. So of course his experience is massively different from most of us. Which is also why he refused to believe at first during a Dr Stone stream, that Anya Forger, Niki from Dr Stone and Frieren were voiced by the same actor. Hence why Luke asked a myriad of times to please not post stuff we may not consider spoilers, but could be to him. He was even joking with chat about it during different twitch streams, like Tensura or Dr Stone. That's were the Bob joke is coming from. And yes, as Pots said... Maybe. But not necessarily. Luke tends to be more focused on what he sees than what he hears and reads, as soon as anime get more emotional or hectic. So it's plausible that he would have also missed that clue in the dub. Actually. I already saw other reaction channels missing that clue despite dub. Love seeing Luke theorizing. He does a good job noticing clues and connections. I was really pulling for him at the end with trying to figure out the creature. I think it'll click if he thinks on it a little more, but at least that answer is not far from being revealed.

It's also important to point out that Subaru has no reason to believe that he will actually respawn upon his next death and even then he doesn't know where his most recent spawn point is. There is no reason for him to intentionally restart unless something irreversible happens.

And we had people spoiling who the Wano Arc traitor was, because the character was acting sus the whole time anyways, and that it was obvious because he was shown in a specific pose in the opening. Now don't get me even started on people spreading Gear 5 everywhere, 'cause "The Internet already knows anyways". I am still angry about the last one... Even those typical "Remember that object" or "Remember that sentence" comments etc can be huge spoilers to certain people. Luke doesn't usually mind them though, since he quickly forgets it anyways, as he once mentioned during Tensura streams. So the main question remains. Not why people are posting it. Not whether it may or may not be a spoiler. The question is: Why deliberately risk ruining the fun for someone else, just because it's not a spoiler to you? Especially if they asked beforehand not to say stuff like that? And especially if the anime/mange will explain everything anyways? Even if it literally shatters the theory they do have at the moment? Did you ever watch Vampire Knight Regill? Yuki Cross, the biggest male Mary Sue style MC in anime history? Or Makoto Itou from School days? Compared to them, everything is god tier. It's not that complicated actually. If it's something he needs to know but will not be further elaborated in the anime, you can tell him. If he completely misunderstood something important, like what a certain magical object does, or why something didn't work out as planned e.t.c., explain it. If he straight up asks the viewers to explain it (not in a joking manner), explain it. If it's a manga/novel only info, like Ai much like Subaru, being from another world, you can tell him. If he misses a less relevant info, hint or foreshadowing, don't tell him until he reached the point the info get's relevant. (Like how Luke realized himself what the beheaded snowman was foreshadowing). Avoid using sentences like "Remember this...", to refer to something that will be important later, as he will become to focused on it and make connections in his head he shouldn't have made at that point. If something actually gets explained later on, don't explain it and let him cook until he actually get's the explanation. Like with puck this time. It get's explained in season 1 again mentioned in season 2 and straight up shown in Frozen Bonds (which he will watch as it's canon). In any other cases, don't say anything since it might destroy the theories he came up himself with. Like him thinking at the end of this episode, that the creature is the actual Witch of Envy.

Hell first time I watched this when it first aired I didn't need the VA to identify at the end. There's not a hint of foreshadowing. They use both hands smashing it in your face before ramming it up your A$$. The fact that Luke didn't catch on has nothing to do with watching it for the first time, it has to do with not being able to provide the necessary attention to the show since they are too busy reacting and providing us with entertainment. Which means he's missing something that he's SUPPOSED to know rather than he's missing something that he's supposed to figure out. That is what makes the difference between informing and spoiling.

Julius beating the shit out of Subaru was actually for Subaru's own sake. He doesn't particularly hate him, but he did disrespect the honour of the knights. If left alone, one of the knights more than likely would have killed Subaru (this is what Julius refers to by the death penalty). Instead, Julius takes it into his own hands to beat the shit out of him in front of all the knights. This satisfies them and ensures they don't kill Subaru. You can tell that Julius is usually a pretty nice, upstanding guy when Reinhard says, "This isn't like you."

It is crazy how this changed my life, I had this wonderful friend way back and they told me to watch re:zero, and from the start I got so invested that episodes hugged me like miss Envy and I could not hold my excitement for the next episode, this is one of the only animes that really got me. The first time I watched it honestly it was a long time waiting for s2, and also not spoiling myself to much on the wait, but yea I prob. re:watched about 7 times, alone by myself and binged peoples reactions so on and so on, but everytime it is like "Oh wow another thing I did not notice, wonder if that is know- oh damn my brain trembles.".. Now I am a walking re:zero encyclopedia and can not say a thing without spoiling stuff.. :D OH and yea, I thought about here you would cry the first times :P
