I know people will probably flood comments about how Roswaal (the mansion owner) is the best magic user. Beatrice (Betty) isn't. That said, he did say he hasn't read the comments from the previous episode, so cut him a bit of slack. Lol.

This anime is in fact "so good" And also it is 'mystery' genre, so it feeling like a giant mystery is the goal. That's why the world seems very interesting but isn't discussed almost at all. It's drip fed to save the interesting reveals later and to keep the viewer speculating.

This shows whats really fucked up with Return by Death... He cannot tell anyone and this can get him into conflicts real easy as you can see here. They already think he could be a spy and he suddenly knows the exact layout of the mansion, seems to know stuff that he should not know, etc. Also super interesting to see the dynamics between those characters. It must be so super strange to know those people for weeks by now and all the things you have experienced together but for them you are still just a stranger. The disconnect between what you know about them and how you feel about them and what they know about you and what they feel about you.

It seems she does like Subaru to some extent, but she's obviously not very forthcoming with it. She did conveniently "ignore" the time limit for her protection though and choose to help him escape

Meh, season one had a bit of interesting start but overall is not that great. Season two is way better and you missed that. It is really worth all the build up in my opinion. Still, I won't be saying some huge praises to this author since I personally believe that really good ones can hook you in the first episodes / books. Here, even in the second season we are still basically learning stuff about the world and what truly is going on as if it was still introduction. In other words, he takes way too long to tell this story. Meaning that author of this story is decent writer, but could learn to get a bit better pace.

Don't forget he is returning to the point AFTER he met Beatrice for the first time, got his mana drained by her and fainted Third time I've seen that scene in the end, third time I cried. Such an awesome Anime

Glad that you're enjoying the show. The author actually writes what ifs on certain cycles for Re:Zero. The 1st one was in the city, Elsa and Subaru actually works together. The 2nd one is this cycle, Subaru runs away instead of resetting here. In many of these what ifs, Subaru becomes somekind of super villain, except for a couple of what ifs stories.

Your reactions to this show are entertaining even if you don't pause that much. I think that is pretty understandable since this anime really sucks you in. I've probably watched this episode 5 times already but I still get chills everytime I see that ending scene.

I think what Betty meant about the time limit was at the moment she made the contract (when they were holding hands) she simply said I promise to protect you, she never mentioned a time limit in the contract, even though earlier he had only asked for her protection until that morning

I think Memory Snow works better if you watch it after s1. If you watch it before Subaru goes to the city, it spoils the mood set up by the previous episodes. Also, it has tiny spoilers for future episodes.

The subtitles in this episode (1st half) really fucked up... Its not OGRES, the japanese word used is ONI, which means DEMONS, not ogres. That has a gigantic effect on the scene, I can't believe they have let such a big mistranslation go through. The story Subaru tells Ram is about the RED and BLUE DEMONS

If you're not reading comments then who knows if you'll ever see this, but I personally really enjoy your reactions to this series! It's honestly nostalgic seeing your fresh reactions and then remembering my own reactions and how every week a not so insignificant amount of time would be trying to figure out what on earth was going on and how it all connected. Watching you puzzle it out is as close as I can get to reliving this series, so it's been great imo.

For Beatrice's contract, the way I see it is Subaru asks her to protect him AT LEAST until the morning but doesn't specifically say to STOP protecting him after that point. So Beatrice makes the contract to protect him for AT LEAST that long by not setting a time limit on it at all. Which is why I also think Roswaal says she must actually like him because she was willing to make such a contract in the first place. Also, your reactions are awesome for this! Re: Zero is an emotionally heavy anime so even when you aren't saying anything, we can read your facial expressions. Hell, at one point I could tell your eyes got a little watery. Those emotional responses to these scenes are exactly the kind of real reactions I come here for. So, as far as I'm concerned, these reactions are perfect! It's everything I was hoping for, so keep it up!

Eh, it's not terrible. The main issue is it was not consistent since last episode it was translated as demons. Oni (鬼) is also frequently translated as Ogres (see Higurashi), the reason being because they're not really spiritual demons. They're something more akin to Orcs. Basically big bulky guys with horns and usually clubs. Also tend to like to eat humans (in folklore). The word used for "traditional" demons is normally Akuma (悪魔).

as the person above said it's not that bad as a translation, most media do translate oni as ogres since they share a lot of similarities, while demon is used for akuma, in reality Oni should not be translated since it is it's own word for a kind of yokai, but "Ogre" is usually accepted

These 2 episodes were quite intense, but honestly I never quite felt right about the suicide scene it just put me off. Watching the full ending sequence in episode 8 (episodes 14 and 15) will be an absolute requirement, but I do strongly recommend taking some time to enjoy the openings and endings in context before then (you'll have completely passed the first opening soon

I strongly disagree with whoever said that there are no stakes to Re:Zero, the point of the show isn't "the end game", it's the struggle Subaru goes through. Subaru: * is cursed to be unable to die * cannot tell anyone what he's going through * loves everyone in his life and wants to save them * was not prepared to be in the situation he's in the only way I can describe Re:Zero is "human"

Considering the pain and emotions of Subaru's journey, I find the stakes to be massive! He lives every day wondering if he does that day, and if his reset point is going to be an advantage or disadvantage. I'd lose my damn mind worrying about losing my chance to change something I didn't like. Especially once I had the power to do so. That ability makes permanent losses feel infinitely more dire.

One of the things i have come to regularly understand after experiencing so much Japanese with translations in anime, and my past experience learning French, words can be perceived as corresponding in languages, but many words just mean what they mean. Like oni. I once thought of oni as ogres for the longest time, but now...oni are oni. That tale Subaru told Ram feels wrong when "ogre" fills that spot.

Also, Bettie never said a time limit or a location when she made the contract, right? She only said yes to Subaru asking to be protected until a time, but she said she would protect him. Stop. That's it. Then, she told Ram that, while he is in the mansion, she will protect him. Now, that, I feel, meant, "While he is 'here,' he is protected by me," with "here" being at the location of the Mathers barony, or whatever.

"It's like watching a f*cking detective show." Well, that's because it is. Fundamentally, Re:Zero is a mystery series in a fantasy world with a detective that's so incompetent he needs to die and go back in time several times to solve the mysteries. On another note, I just need to say that insert song at the end is easily my favorite song in Re:Zero. Straight Bet. There's a tint of grief and despair to it, but at the same time, it's overshadowed by resolve, hope, and heroism. I absolutely love it. It makes me want to cry but also clench my hands into fists and wipe away those tears with a bold smile at the same time.

to be fair.. when I first watched it I never even considered roswald to be very powerful, because beatrice was showing off so much. they really leave you in the dark with some of the lore until much later.
