I mean, Kyubey isn't totally lying. He's talking about the heat death of the universe afaik, that's a real thing. Though the time scale for that is far outside any normal humans imagination.

Studio Shaft who made Madoka Magica have a very unique style that you can see in all their anime. The head tilt, the dramatic flair, and the way scenes are composed are all really recognizable. I highly recommend watching March Comes in Like a Lion, which is Shaft's best work and has some incredible art direction and scene composition.

They never directly explain how witches and their labyrinths reflect the magical girls they used to be, but by observing Octavia (witch Sayaka), we've put together how it works. Octavia's labyrinth and powers are a reflection of 1) the wish she made to become a magical girl (which correlates to the reason she turned into a witch), to heal Kyousuke so he could play classical music, 2) the power she had while she was a magical girl, the sword that Octavia wields, and 3) the location where she transformed into a witch, a train station. All of the other witches also follow this pattern, or at least that's the logical assumption to make.

One thing I've been wondering about for a while now; "Kubey" and "incubator" sound like "incubus," a demon known for fulfilling the desires of girls, always to the great grief and regret of said girls. I've never been able to find out if that was on purpose or just a happy accident of translation.

I don't think Kyubey has ever actually lied or done anything malicious. He just leaves tons of critical information out and hard core manipulates people. So I tend to fully believe his whole spill about alien civilizations and entropy. I feel like what he says you can trust, you just probably aren't being given the whole picture.

If you remember from Kyoko's backstory, her dad called her a witch that deceives people's hearts. The last thing she wants to do is prove her dad correct, which is why she sacrifices herself, rather than eventually becoming a witch

kyubey has never lied to anyone. the girls just never asked. when they did, he told them everything they wanted to know with complete sincerity. He hasn't been deceptive.

The thing to remember about Kyubey is that he literally has no emotions. He mentions it in his explanation, his species doesnt feel emotions. They have come to the position that they want to keep existing and that in order to do so, they need to handle the problem of entropy. He is making a rational plea that Madoka, the biggest source of entropy breaking energy he has ever found, helps the universe by unleashing that energy. He is too alien to ever be called evil. This Kyubey has taken the place of a murdered one without saying shit about it and has kept acting like the old one... who got murdered for acting that way. He doesnt even care about his own survival. That is how alien he is.

The big issue with Kyoko is that she was so sure she didnt need anyone. She tried to live on her own, for herself. But she couldnt. She kept forming bonds, in her own way. She couldnt actually hold to the lifestyle that she professed belief in. So when she learned that every bit of her lifestyle was untenable... well, we saw the result.

I feel that his answer to Kyoko regarding whether or not Sayaka can be saved is proof that he is capable of lying if the situation calls for it. Especially given his answer when Homura asks him the same question--he knew it was hard no, but that's not what he told Kyoko. Kyubey has a sort of charisma (perhaps it's the Halo effect that his appearance causes) that makes you want to believe he wouldn't lie, though. And strictly speaking, it could be argued that he didn't, but I think he absolutely lied during this episode.

That face when Kyuubey says "it's all part of the plan" was priceless. Luke has been watching a person get phenomenally drunk, then jump into a race car. Now you're watching for the inevitable head on collision and can't pry your eyes away. Except to give us, the audience, that "I knew it" look.

The words thermodynamics and entropy are definitely not the words I expected to hear in this anime I'm glad they explained why it's little girls who fight "evil", but how it all turned into sci-fi? 😂
