Oh I love Gate, one of my first ever anime and a lot of fun too. It's a bit of military propoganda but a great world and story. Also I forgot about some of the slightly racier scenes in place of the more epic ones if I'm honest.

I love Gate! That girl with the black and red as you said, she's one of the best characters in all of anime imo. The anime is 24ish episodes long, and I know you would have a lot of fun with it.

3 Minutes in and Luke was able to correctly guess the anime plot for once lol! Also I highly recommend watching it in English, it makes it easier to understand some of what goes on.

I love Gate's concept so much as well. Aside from the concept, I don't think the anime itself does anything really unique but it's still one of my favorites. It's a similar vibe to Slime IMO. Where it's a fun ride with some serious moments and has about as much cheekiness. The MC is also super relatable for a lot of reasons. I am also ex military and the show does a fairly good job at referencing the real weapons, equipment, units, tactics, etc... One of the few animes I have watched where I am actually not taken out of it due the military people not acting or talking correctly. And the joke you made about this being in America is actually really funny. It's not a spoiler to say its actually in Japan but there are comments made in the show of what would happen in it was in America though. Which as an American, made me laugh haha.

Gate is a simple joy to watch. The characters are fun, and layered. The world is neat. The tone is varied enough between light and dark, real and escapist, to be interesting. It's a bit cheeky, but not too much. The adaptation leaves out some important context that makes certain political background stuff hard to follow, and some jokes and events are geared towards people familiar with the idiosyncrasies of military life, but as a streamer you have the benefit of a watch-along audience to help out if needed. Seriously, queue up the first episode, pop some popcorn, lean back, and smile. It's fun. But yes, also watch Overlord. lol.
