Nanachi is definitely a girl And there isn't that many children but Riko lived in a orphanage so you see a lot a children and you train children very young because kids have a better adaptation to the cure of the abyss And Bondrewd was looking for orphans because he knew that nobody would miss them + a lot of children accept because Bondrewd tells them about a better world, he gave them hope for hungry orphans, hope is enough Concerning the elevator, it's a secret that only Bondrewd knows about, it's his private elevator and the sub says "For I am NOT making use of them as human" ;)

Nanachi's gender is unknown, but before turning Nanachi looks more male and the use of oira for I is a mostly young boy form of I in rural areas. No hard evidence, since there could be girls that look like this too and even if for most japanese it would sound a little bit off, the I-forms that are mostly used by one gender, can be used as the other gender. But at the end, I think Nanachi's gender does not matter anyways.

It may be because his fucked-up human experiments actually lead to real world progress. The things he does with children and people he sets his eyes on, along with the environments be messes up beyond repair actually makes the abyss safer for everyone who enters it. It’s likely the elevator is either only known by him or by other white whistles, but ain’t nobody trying to investigate him because there would be consequences for impeading his research. He by design is 100% above the law, and the most anyone can do is tell him “hey, ya know, the stuff you’re doing might not be right morally”.

Yes, the creatures down there are all the other kids. And I believe that the white whistles have some sort of immunity to do pretty much anything they want. But his action is not sanctioned which is why Bondeman is doing the experiment down in the abyss. There are no laws or regulations in the abyss. As for why there are so many kids is because many are orphans. For the city over the abyss is that many have lost their parents to the abyss. In other countries like where Nanashi is from you saw was quite poor and cold. But it is also difficult to regulate the ages of these people. Mitti has quite the developed bussum so I am not sure how old she is. The reason they might take children to is because there are so many orphans, they are easier to transport and no one would miss them. And the reason Nanachi acted after hearing Bondoman was the other cave raider said that taking children that can't return to the surface because they wouldn't survive the strain was not good in a humane perspective. And Bondoman responded that then it wasn't a problem because he wasn't treating them as humans. Yeah. Bondoman makes Ozen look like a saint in comparison.

Next time, if you don't mind, please don't split these kind of episodes (or the movie!) unless there's something that really makes it necessary for you to do that. I'd much prefer just having one off day. Similar to Oshi no ko episode 1, these kind of episodes are meant to be watched in one go and there is usually a reason why the authors / animators go out of their way to make an episode that does not follow the usual 20 minute length. Splitting it up is kind of like pausing a symphony midway... it disrupts the flow and just won't hit the same when you get back into it after the break. I'm really enjoying your reactions though! Please keep it up!

A lot of complains about the spits. Like, I get it, but its not a surprise. He's said this would probably be the case for weeks. We've done our petitions and he made his choice. Its happening already. Hes is watching them in one go, so it doesn't REALLY matter, he isn't splitting them for himself so its not effecting his viewing experience. Can we not have every 4th comment mention they don't understand why the split now when the second part of episode 13 and movie are released? You paid a dollar to be here. To split or not to split isn't the hill to die on here... Its not really even worth discussion from here on cause its already done.

there really is no point in the splits though if they are already recorded in one session then what's the point? there's more reasons not to do it then there are to do it I could list them all but I think they're obvious to most people. the biggest reason I can think of is just the break of immersion from the moment to everyone watching the reaction / possibly watching the show for the first time along with him (which is probably very few) but still is a reason. not to mention wanting ot get his opinon / review of the episode as a whole afterwards which split into 2 parts is extremely werid and sucky. just sucks becasue; which is another reason, it goes against the majority of what the community asked him to do / for and it's just dissapointing. it's not like a pateron version even requires much editing due to it being uncut so it doesn't really make it any "easier" for him the only reason he gave for the split si ebcasue "oh no episode / movie is long" when he has watched steins gate movie in one sitting as well as multiple episodes a stream, sure it was live streamed on twitch but what's the difference in doing that in one sitting and watching something off stream in one sitting? (I can aknowledge that's one for the weaker points but still to be considered) but there's jsut so many mroe reasons not to split then there is to do it.

And man, also, the fact that the more you look into his backstory and lore, the more depressing this character gets, it's just amazing, and makes this character yet more memorable. Personally splitting ep 13 was kind of a lackluster decision. It ruin the intended experience that the director wanted the viewer to felt. Nonetheless, I just hope this won’t have the same treatment for season 2 episode 12. On the other hand, for the movie I can understand as it has a 2 hour watch time.

I am rather sure that the device they are riding down in is only safe on the inside because the cave raiders are on the outside killing everything that gets close on the way down. It's never explained that way, but it is incredibly heavily implied that way. Crimson Splitjaws and Madokajaks pretty much attack anything that comes near them that has food in it, regardless of size.

I’ve seen a lot of anime this is one of the reasons why made in abyss sets itself apart from many other animes it’s not afraid to be different with it’s messed up world and unique characters. I don’t cry often when watching any type of shows but this made me shed a tear truly a heart aching story.

The main reason for him too split this double length episode into two is probably cause this way the future uploads all line up perfectly with the second part of the movie reaction next saturday. It just looks better on paper. And also you have probably nothing against him wanting to split the movie into two pieces. If that's so and everything would go as you like, he would have uploaded the first part of the movie tomorrow and we would have to wait until next friday to see the second one, which would quiet definetly also break the immersion for everyone. I'm totally ok with his decision and the majority of his viewers probably are too.

might of said it somehwere else but it would be much better for him to just upload this episode in full and then do something else tomorrow possibly even just a more in-depth review/insight about the whole show of S1. the movie split is still like why? But it' is certainly way more reasonable then splitting a single double length episode when he usually watches 2 a week anyway. and from reading all the comments majority of people seem to agree that splits at least were not a good decision but put up with it anyway. the rest don't care or are on the fence with it but no way are the majority simply just "ok" with it looking at all the feedback here.

While made in abyss was already a really good show up to this point, THIS episode brought it to a whole other level for most people. Its insanly messed up but still beatiful and you cant just stop watching cause of the mystery around the abyss. Its insanly good written.

Look, its not like I don't agree. Im not 'ecstatic' about the choice. But having half the comments be about it isn't gonna change it. He has said he was gonna do it for weeks, people complained about that idea for weeks and here we are. He did it just like he said he would. Its up to the people paying to decide if that's enough of a deal breaker to stop paying and leave, or accept the choice he made. Making comments after the fact is fair enough, but I'd bet $100 they same people will make the same complaint on the part 2 release and the movie if he decided to do it in to parts again too, and then on the last episode of season 2. It won't make a difference if he has already decided weeks in advance. And I know making this comment isn't gonna get likes from people upset with the choice. And I can't stress enough; I'm not saying Im totally on board with the choice to split episodes. Im just saying, its not really worth long comments to exclusively complain about that choice beyond this episode. Im just hoping everyone gets it out of their system now and doesn't spend the next 3 releases with that being the focus of discussion here.

The fishing scene between Reg and Nanachi might be my favorite scene from season 1. It's very touching. For those who wanted the full episode today, what would he do for tomorrow's upload? He's obviously not gonna start the movie until next week's recording session. If he did an auxiliary MiA themed video, like a discussion video, would a significant amount of people actually watch that compared to the reactions? IMO, the way Luke is doing this just makes the most sense. We're getting the same amount of reaction time as previous weeks. Also, I'm curious, are any of y'all watching this for the first time through his reactions, since they're full length? That's one group I could understand this frustration from. But, for us who've already watched MiA, it shouldn't be a big deal.

The kids are outside the abyss. Bondrewd's collecting orphans no one wants or will miss from elsewhere to experiment on. It's pretty obvious Nanachi's a girl, but the reasons are movie spoilers so I'll explain when they're not. The kids are literally just in a metal box. Bondrewd's boys are just carrying a metal box full of kids down. And Bondrewd said he's "NOT making use of them as humans" And the movie will be much the same as this episode, there's no good place to cut it. You may want to just put up the whole reaction and do nothing next sunday, to recover yourself.

I'm more concerned with the fact it was a simple request which he I guess just refused to do so makes me wonder what else is he gonna comepltely refuse to do when people request stuff in the future? If he just doesn't listen to community requests that are as simple as "don't split epsiodes" it could spirals out of control slowly build up or something and eventually start refusing certain show requests / poll results (that is just worst case scenario and unlikely to happen) I guess it's more about principal sticking wtih ur guns on what was requested especially for the paying patreons and as he always asks us stuff like questions and what we want and think and we're telling him what we want and think which is not to split at the very least this episode and he never listened so what the point of asking us what we think It's just about listening to the community especially when it's a somehwat smaller community like this. It's something for example twitch has been terrible at doing especially with there recent sponsorship changes. and I will like your comment becasue you still make sense at least but people still have the right to be unhappy about the situation even if that means going on about it on every MIA upload that remains.

100% fair view. Again, what you are saying is something that comes to mind for me as well, and I don't disagree with. But to date for me I haven't been around here long enough to see how things work. If I'm totally honest, I think I did the math and by splitting this episode and the movie up would push the MiA reactions juuust into August. If that's right MiA reactions would have otherwise ended in July. That would mean anyone who is here ONLY for MiA would need to pay out another month to finish the final of season 2. If the decision was made for THAT reason, that I would find rather upsetting. But thats not something I can prove and again, I haven't been around to see a pattern like that to make that an actual claim. But I also haven't NOT noticed that. For me, the reactions are good enough to put up with it for the price. I'll probably be sticking around at least until FMA finishes up so one more month of MiA doesn't matter to ME. Buuuut.... I get what you mean, honestly. Its actually more work to split the episode here on patreon then it is to upload it as one video. But for now, I'm 'choosing' to believe the reason is he doesn't have time to watch like 2 and half hours of content for patreon in one weekend. And thanks for being a reasonable replier. Well it's also harder to upload two parts. You have to edit it into two parts, put a to be continued and welcome back into the parts, and upload 2 videos which takes longer than a single one from the bandwidth point of view. And as for pushing the date back to get another dollar, he's got the whole comment section saying we'd be perfectly cool with him just putting up the whole thing on one day, and doing absolutely nothing the next because it was double length. The end date would be the same either way. And the only place I can think you'd split the movie is like 15 minutes in. A 15 minute video, then an hour and a half long video the next day's a bit silly. Cutting it anywhere else would be worse.

Because they haven't seen it before. They're paying him $1 instead of like $12 to watch it elsewhere. Because their cheapness overcomes their love of art, and they'd rather rub some pennies together than have the art be tainted by some guy pausing it. He could put the whole thing up one day and nothing the next though, there'd be less people bitching. No one will get upset if there's one less video a week when you did a double length one. It's not like he's got a boss that expects him to show up every day and punch in.

We're all adults, an episode being twice as long is a perfect excuse to do half as many videos. Hell I'm surprised he can even do 2 episodes in a row. This is a "I need to watch the entire thing in one sitting" show to half the audience, and a "I have to take a week to stop crying after each episode" for the other half.

Yeah, calling Nanachi "they" is pretty much canon, since Tsukushi's version is "she has a gender but it was not revealed. Imagine.". So Nanachi is whoever you wish it to be, basically. Female bun resonates with me more, for some its a "he". All versions work well tbh. Also, be advised, it only gets darker and more emotionally ...taxing from now on.

I think the biggest problem is people suggesting that he uploads the full episode + do something else tomorrow. You're just expecting him to do extra work for no reason. I would prefer if he uploads the full episode today and nothing tomorrow (it's more flexible, we can decide when to watch it). Like you said splitting the episode does nothing other than preventing people from complaining he's not uploading something tomorrow.

This episode was punch in the gut for me. The scene that comes up next had me bawling my eyes out, and the tragic story of Nanachi and Mitty had me feeling down for several days after this episode. I really like your reactions, and one reason is that a lot of your emotional reactions are similar to mine. It makes me feel like you understand and respect the show (instead of making fanny comments to lighten the mood or having dramatic reactions: you can be quiet and you can cry if the show makes you feel like that). I really commend you for picking this show even though it's not Youtube friendly, because this show is such a unique gem amongst all the more popular and lucrative anime. I believe it'll leave a mark in me, somewhere deep in my soul, and maybe it'll do that to you, too. Sometimes it's not just about money, and I really admire you for that. I don't really know what I'm trying to say, I'm just feeling raw after this episode (again) amd wanted to express my feelings. I can't wait for the next part, and I hope you had lots of tissues to help you get through it :)

Are you serious? You can easily watch this for free if you really want to. Nobody in their right mind is going to pay $1 to watch this here because they can't afford watching it legally. I've already seen it, and I would prefer if he would upload the full episode today and upload nothing tomorrow. Of course, then some people would complain that he didn't upload something tomorrow, but it would've been nice because so many people were asking full episode today.

I just cant understand why you still split this Everyone was asking for it not to be, and to have no upload tomorrow, there would be no extra content, no extra work, its less infact, and theres no editing anyway for patreon videos There was just no reason to do it, most people are just waiting for tomorrow to watch both, cause no one wants to be cut off half way when it is meant to be watched all at once you also have done other long episodes and movies at once, oshi no ko, attack on titan, and all movies So why was this split? it benefits no one and you didnt seem to have any reason for it, and theres none i can think of, its just kind of annoying but it is what it is I hope you dont do the same for the movie and season 2s finale

the Freight Elevator only goes down about 600 meters (about 1/3 of the way into the first layer). The Praying Hands are carrying the vessel from there, manually. It's got wheels on it (which they can hook into the railway system on layer 5), so they can roll it if the ground is flat/sturdy enough, but otherwise they're carrying it and lowering it with pulleys. it's pretty dangerous though as they have had catastrophic failures in the past where the vessels fell and broke.

Let me chime in a little. Don't make it a bit deal. I'd say the vast majority of people here already watched both seasons and are just here to see his reactions, not the show itself. If you are here for the show yes it's going to suck having to stop half way through the episode. If you want to see him have a great/good/terrible time, he already is cos' he's watching it in 1 session. His experience is not diminished by "splitting". If you want his reaction of the entire episode back to back, you're 1 day early that's all. This "single episode" session isn't any different to any other week where he watched the same amount of the show and split them into 2 uploads. If you're ok with those you probably should treat this one and subsequently the movie and s2 finale the same. But that's me. You do you.

If you think this episode is disturbing then let me tell you this: the movie and the second season lose the little chill this anime had so far I highly recommend watching cute dog/cat videos after each episode :D As for whether he did this legally - White whistles are viewed with highest regards and there is no law prohibiting his experiments as everyone's goal in this world is to conquer the Abyss

I don't think its the case that this world has a lot of children, its just that we're following Riko who is a child in an orphanage, and Bondrew went to a foreign country's slum where he could find a lot of orphaned children to use for his experiments.

He's an absolute piece of shit and I LOVE him as a villain. Man has a mission and drive to complete it and won't let simple things like morality get in the way. Hearing him in the dub explaining how the chambers work he sounds genuinely excited to describe the process, but at the same time he's not laughing over the torture he's about to inflict like other villains would. He doesn't get off on that. He just doesn't see any problem with what he's doing, it's so cold and disturbing.

THIS is the episode we've been waiting for. You thought episode 10 was disturbing? Nah. What Bondrewd does to these kids is some of the most fucked up stuff in anime, and the fact it shows us in such disturbing close ups is horribly dark. This more than anything is also why people wanted this not on twitch. Not because of the nudity moments, but because we wanted you fully invested and not distracted by chat and laughing along with in-jokes or whatever. Also considering how many episodes you get through in a session on twitch, this would have been the tail end of like your second session and you'd have had to digest everything all in 1 go. It would have been much less entertaining to see.

Hey Luke. About your question "why so many children?" and "why they are used for all of this?". Look at this by the prism of the world and what it actually shows. You have slums and orphanages and the entire city of Orth lives from finding and selling artifacts. People die quite easly in this type of world and from boats and other stuff, that is not from the abyss and do not involve the tech from the abyss, looks like it could come from some steampunky XIX early XX century. Child labor wasn't anything strange at that time in XIX it was pretty common, viva la industrial revolution. Riko is from the orphanage so she must work to keep the food on the table as well as other children, they are literaly the capital of the orphanage. With Nanachi, she was from some kind of slums from god knows where and she was just kept with other children that probably had no parents bc they died or they left. Welcome to dystopian society.
