Far too fast Luke 🤣❤️

Cool that you react to the newest episode here. Now I can watch it here going blind.

You should react to Bakuman on stream after Kaguya-sama. Just like how this show gives you a look into the Japanese entertainment industry, Bakuman will give you a look into the Japanese manga industry, as well as how manga get adapted in anime and a bit of the voice acting industry as well. It's also made by the guys that made Death Note.

summertime rendering is a recent exaple of that

Vinland saga is a pretty good example of an anime most people slept on at the start but after a while people started to realize how amazing it was.

I would say streamer are considered as entertainer, some of them receive invention in tv shows, if they have huge popularity, but most streamers and YouTubers (those with 'few' followers) are seen as jobless bums, like freelancers- freelancers = jobless in Japan. YouTubers/streamers can't even write streamer as their job in their taxes, as it isn't consider as job in Japan. Voice actor have more popularity than actors, at least it appears so from the Internet, as I'm not living in Japan, so don't view what I say as hundred percent correct , but they have tons appearance in tv/radio/podcast and even live event on stage performance, which is very different from where I'm from, with nearly zero media presence.

I've no idea what you're talking about. Vinland Saga was hyped up since the very beginning.

One of the more recent examples of a show that blew up only after a number of episodes is Demon Slayer. Many people considered it just an okay decent looking show until THAT episode came out and blew everyone's mind.

kao

School Days is basically known for its last episode lol, it’s infuriatingly bad, but the last episode is a masterpiece

I would say Black Clover is an example of such anime. The start was somewhat bad and people compared it to Naruto but with more annoying MC who couldnt talk without shouting. Later it had amazing build up for upcoming arc and suddenly everyone was talking about it Also i hear the next arc is inspired by a very tragic real life event. I kinda look forward to see how they gonna make it

Sei

It's interesting you noticed it's similarities with love is war because the creator of love is war Akasaka is the writer of oshi no ko and the artist is Mengo.

Black clover was the most disliked anime when it was released, constantly getting hate for miniscule reasons. I swear the hate this anime got was completely unwarranted. On the bright side upon the anime final episode 170 it had become the most watched show in over 80 countries with lots of praises. Almost 3 years after the anime ended, i enjoy rewatching it with many other reactors and I love this show.

In japan the names are always surmames first then given names second. (surname: arima, given name: kana) For formalities and acquaintances, they will address them on surname first. Family and close friends will call them on their given names. The subs flipped the naming around it seems 😁

This might be very far streched and maybe not a fitting example but Attack on Titan Season 1 didnt have good numbers in Japan and it seems it would already stop after season 1. I am also not sure what triggered its huge comeback then. Maybe it was the huge success and demand from out side of Japan or maybe the interest in the manga increased again at a certain point and convinced anime producers to continue again. Season 1 came out in 2013 and season 2 only in 2017 which is a very long period for something that is so succesful now.

Some0neElse

Holly sht i forgot about this one :D i remember everyone calling it "the worst anime ever made" lol

Anggst

Kana means chicken (hen) in Finnish. We sometimes you it as a rude nickname for women who talk too much and fast. Sometimes anime names just hit differently.

BOCCHI THE ROCK!! is an anime that started with zero hype... then became a highly recognised anime world wide after about 5/6 episodes

Ral Zarek

others have said it, but BOCCHI THE ROCK!!, the manga wasnt very popular at all and no one was talking about the anime when it was coming out because everyone thought it would be just "cute girls doing cute things" based on Promo materials. Then after 5 ep it exploded in popularity and even became some peoples fav anime of the season... the same season that had Chainsaw man, Bleach, Mob Psycho and SpyxFamily.

First example I thought since it was the most recent. It's a really great show to watch. Highly recommend watching it.

Jc

should get him to watch the first ep of Ga-Rei: Zero

Muligan Shinzuo

The dating show arc should be able to show you how far or close the series is to real life.

Cronosoul

I'd say Bocchi The Rock was a great recent example of an anime that at first had little popularity. The lead up to the season + during the first few eps it was ranked towards the very bottom in terms of number of users watching it, then around episode 4 it just exploded with popularity. So close to flying under the radar

I was going to do the "spoil the ending of 'Sweet Today'" joke but then realised he's not that far into Kaguya-sama yet. Damn it.

I think Kana wasn’t acting in the scene where she was supposed to fall in love. That was the story telling us she had fallen in love with Aqua directly. That’s why she was distracted before starting the scene and why she was looking at him during the scene itself.

For an anime? Made in Abyss. There was almost no hype for it, and it it was about halfway through before word of mouth got more people watching, and then it completely exploded with such a big response, they rushed to make some compilation movies to keep the anime in the news while they put the real continuation (Movie 3) in production. Even the VAs were surprised it was getting a continuation as they learned about it when everyone else did. It was never bad, it just didn't initially seem like from the marketing that it would appeal the way it ended up doing. I'm trying to think of an anime that started rough in terms of story/production but ended up solid. I know a few dubs that are rough at first but get better (Berserk (1997), takes a few episodes before it feels like all the main characters have properly found and gotten comfortable with their voices), though I'm trying to think of an anime in general with a rough start. I know I've seen some but having a hard time recalling them off the top of my head. Hmmm.....Aijn I think is somewhat an example, as the CGI of the first few episodes is a lot jankier than it is later on. It's a bit floaty early on but gets smoothed out around episode 4 iirc.

I would say Shin Sekai Yori. Its an anime that for a long time even after its completion had a very low viewer count, but over time has steadily continued to gain popularity. Like the project in Oshi no Ko it never took off like some mega shows because it never went viral at the start, but it did end up being a nice gem for many people to discover

wishlist for oshi no ko: ai reincarnates as aqua and ruby's child (don't even try to tell me that they don't end up together. Even though they are siblings the past life and chemistry is undeniable + manga chapters prove they have feelings for each other).

Tom Boggess

that "famous" anime that did poor out the gates is "made in abyss." most of the first season was kinda mid. but then that one scene happened and then word spread that this was an adventure deconstruction anime and then people started to notice. To the best of my knowledge it's the only adventure deconstruction anime out there.

Tom Boggess

oh dear, ruby isn't sitting the high school protagonist seat. we're in for a rough ride. what you need to know about high school anime is that the main character is ALWAYS situated second to last row, looking out the window.

Tom Boggess

DUDE. you don't just give away the size of your dick to your friends. you only do that to your "ABSOLUTE BEST FRIEND FOR LIFE WHO WILL NEVER BETRAY YOU NO MATTER THE PUSSY HE SEES." THAT'S the kind of friendship you have to have with a bro to give that info.

The question of Kana or Arima gets into cultural differences. In Japan and most eastern cultures it is normal to address people by their family name, in this case Arima, but as that is the standard, the ordering of names when written in full is also reversed, in this case Arima Kana. This also gets complicated as you compare different translation where some translators will alter the name order to match western standards or even use personal names where characters are actually saying family names. The overall effect is a bit like in traditional formal schooling a professor may address a student as Mr. or Ms. [Lastname], but in Estern culture that is the general form for most people. Only close acquaintances would address someone by their personal name rather than their family name, and generally only with explicit permission to do so. You may notice in various shows the question of "may I call you ___?" comes up a lot, they are asking for permission to use the personal name rather than the family name.
