It's quite slow at first. But it just builds and builds. This is "Worldbuilding" The Anime. And yes, the questionable scenes are like the one where she is strung up naked, there is no explicit nudity.

The 1st layer goes down to about 1350m and the 5th layer is the deepest people can go without loosing there humanity, if they climb back up. the 600m group dive only to the half of the first layer, they are inexperienced cave raiders...

All the questions you posed at the end WILL get answered. This part of the show is probably the weakest because it's a lot of exposition. But as you can see, it's still very good. And yes, this show is too risky for twitch. Can't wait for the 2 episodes a week. Should time it bang on when the show really kicks in to gear.

It's like Columbus and other navigators exploring the world, the survival rate is low asf but still tons of people investigating nonstop, and in Made in abyss, "Last dive" means going under the 6 layer cuz you can't come back. And lyza is called "The Annihilator" cuz she killed everyone that stepped in her way, like really a lot.

Also if you're planning to do an OP and ED reaction, definitely wait until you start the 2nd season to do them all at once. Also if you didn't know, Made in Abyss: Dawn of the deep soul is the movie you need to watch after season 1. It can be a bit confusing with the re-cap movies.

600m is not the sixth layer. it's only about halfway through the first layer. the sixth layer starts at 13km. expert cave radiers often go to the fourth layer or even the fifth layer and return. also you don't get cursed going down, just coming back. so you can go down however far you want, but the lower you go the worse symptoms you get on the return trip, and if you go down to layer 6 then you just can't go back up without "loss of humanity or death." one more thing, the deepest point is theorized to be about 20km down, but of course no one really knows.

Well the anime has a bit different art style than any other you watched as you probably noticed. Lets just say this - everyone looks younger than they actually are. F.e. when i first watched it i though Riko is like 5-6y.o. but shes actually 12. Leader is said to be around 20y.o.

The layers are varying depths. The first layer is over a kilometer deep. Riko and co are only allowed in the top part of the first layer because they are just apprentices. The Abyss is SUPER deep.

Think you misunderstood the curse of the abyss it does not hit when you go down it hits you when you try to return back up so you can go down however much you want you just cant get back up after layer 6

so sumorising some information about the abyss in this episode: the abyss consist of multible layers where, when as long as you go down, but when you go up you get affected by whats called as the curse of the abyss. Yep, there are 3 movies. Movies #1 and #2 are recaps from the first season. There are supposed to contain some short exclusives scenes but I couldn't bear watching them as they pretty much sabotage the first season. Movie #3 (Dawn of the Deep Soul) on the other hand is great (it's pure hell but it's a great movie haha) and is the link between season 1 and season 2.

The pilot episode was indeed really well done. It was VERY different from the manga, but I think it did it better. The fact that me (someone who is almost always biased towards manga) thought the anime's first episode was better that the first chapter of the manga should say something.

The setting makes use of different colored 'whistles' to denote rank for those who delve into the Abyss. The Delvers Guild is responsible for distributing these whistles in addition to granting a rank change. All whistles are created and distributed by the Guild, all but the White Whistles, which are created by a special case elaborated on in their section below. These are the different types of whistles: Bells: While technically not a whistle, it is the first rank of whistle. It is given to novices, those who are studying to become delvers but are yet to venture into the Abyss themselves. Primarily this rank is for young children. Red: Rookie delvers earn the red whistle, they have a decent knowledge of the Abyss and have descended to its 1st layer on their own. It is the most common rank. Typically these whistles descend to a depth of 550 meters and no further, a red whistle who descends below 1350 meters is considered dead. Blue: Adept delvers earn the blue whistle, they are those who are experienced and have proven themselves either through their discoveries, multiple successful returns or treasures discovered. These whistles typically descend to the Forest of Temptation and no further. Moon (Purple): Proficient delvers earn the moon whistle, they carry an extensive knowledge of the abyss and its dangers, often becoming teachers for aspiring delvers. These whistles typically descend to the 3rd or 4th layer of the Abyss, those who have ventured further have not returned. Black: Expert delvers earn the black whistle, extremely talented, dexterous and masters of their techniques. Some black whistles work as subordinates to White whistles. If you ask yourself why they go down in the Abyss if it's dangerous, just think that in fact you feel the same they do. Made in Abyss puts the audience in a state of both fascination and deep fear of the Abyss. A great pit full of mysteries, of beauties, the call of the unkown, full of relics of an ancient civilization (maybe) which have a great value of knowledge and money. But the Abyss is also incredibly dangerous, frightening, traumatic since the more you go down, the more unknown it is and the more impossible it's to come back. Just to make sure; The Curse of the Abyss is active only when you go up. Second point, The Abyss is fucking huge! There is an annotated map (without spoiler) which is very useful. We have it from the first pages of the manga (and during the opening of the movie). Returning from the abyss is actually the issue that's when the symptoms manifests but going down is no issue apart from the dangers weithin.

Her mother is considered missing in action because of the curse effects they mentioned. At some point she went down far enough that coming back would result in death. No one can go down to get her because they'd die too. Presumably she's dead, but no one can confirm it. Her whistle made it back to a base camp without her though, and that's how it finally made it back to the city.

Well, I'll I can say on topics like "why do they send kids into the abyss," is that 1)I believe the orphans are doing it of their own free will in exchange for being given a home 2)It's a completely different world/universe from our own, so it's good to be open-minded and understand that a different world might have major cultural differences and ideas from our own.

About the kids going in the Abyss, this is how I understand it: the kids we are introduced to are orphans, and it's mentioned in the first episode that the kids need to bring up relics so that the orphanage can have income. So they send the kids down there (on the safer, upper level) so that they can have funds to operate and get food on the table. It's not like the two adults can look after the younger ones and go cave diving at the same time.

As far as i knew there were rumors about Akihito Tsukushi back in 2020. He hasn't released new chapters for month, so people spread rumors, that he is imprisoned. But that was a lie, he never was imprisoned or in court or anything. Please, do not spread misinformation with absolutely no sources whatsoever, it can be incredibly harmful towards the author.

Yeah twitch sucks, but the gore isn't against tos, only irl gore. MT LN fans can suck for sure but they're no where near as bad for spoilers as some other fanbases, like these comments are filled with spoilers and i've never seen anything close to it on patreon or youtube MT reactions, regardless he said he wont do MT on twitch thankfully.

TBh yopu probably could have made these Youtube reactions, yes audio can get cut often, and some parts might need a bit of editing and extra blur, but the greater audience and draw to your channel would have been better if we got to see the whole journey there. I've seen plenty of MiA reactions on Youtube already. Its your decision and doesent really mattr to me as I'm a Patreon. Also several shows owned by "Aniplex" are definently NO Go's on Youtube sadly. Like "Vivy" "86" and the "Fate Heavens Feel Movies" Even if heavely edited they usually get copyright striked by the company for just having them as reactions or showing things at all. No claims before they just see what your video is and STRIKE. Kinda rutheless so the only option for those as Youtube reactions is heavy bluring and no audio. I'd consider those moreso for patreon reactions while MiA can be edited a bit and shipped mostly intact to Youtube. Anyways for most of the Fate Stay/Night series you will be ok for youtube its just the movies that get a lot of stupid claims. Fate is worth the editing because its just that good as well as its Sister series "Kara no Kyoukai (The Garden of Sinners)" but more on that from me later. Thanks Luke if you read any of this! correction they don't die when they go down they die when they go back up after going to far down. It basically acts like a big trap. Easy to enter and hard to exit. Also it was only Reg who had to wait these two months till he gets to go down cause he just joined the orphanage so he still had stuff to learn before they let him go down the first time.

I think it's important to note that while the manga is the source material it's still a different experience than the anime, i'd only say it's not a spoiler when we're past that point in the anime AND you know 100% that it isn't mentioned in the anime later.

"______" is just a possible interpretation at this point, just based on logic, of what are the relics already mentioned. This is what I thought the first time I watched this beginning. But I have no objection to editing this. The map is one of the first thing you see in the manga. I don't think it's a spoiler. The anime shows it later just because books and anime can't use the same visual language of storytelling. between the chapters the manga gives a lot of information about the lore, the anime doesn't...because it wouldn't make sense in its visual language. Giving this informations that doesn't exist in the anime wouldn't be a spoiler though. I don't know if I'm expressing my way of thinking correctly.

Okay, I edited it out of my comment for people that look here. When you rewatch a series with a reactor you have the added context of the rest of the story, which even if you try your best for it not to, still influnces how you feel about the story and about what details you feel are important. That's why people giving their thoughts on a series is a very slippery slope to spoilers. For example you can't remember every theory and thought you had about a story while experiencing it and even if you could you wouldn't beable to write it all down in a comment section, only things that stayed relevant in your head can be recalled and are more likely for you to talk about. Even if you were perfect and you somehow weren't effected by these biases that doesn't matter to the person who reads them knowing nothing about the series, it still effects their thought in the same way. The anime and manga are separate, they're both cannon but two distinct forms of the same story, how and when something is told in the manga is completely irrelevant, and when it's told in the anime later it's definitely a spoiler. If I was an anime only watching a new series and a manga reader told me a detail that I later found out a couple episodes ahead, i'd be pissed, and most anime-onlys would as well, which happens to be a large part of why anime-onlys hate source readers, in my experience. Your way of expressing is fine im sure, I understand your line of thought I just disagree with it. Sorry for writing too much.

You don't die when you go too far down, you die when you go back up from too far down. The show really builds your curiosity and every time you learn something new you continue questioning what else is down there.

They send kids down because it's how the Orphanage pays for the care of the children. They also generally only send them to the very first layer, which is "generally safe" provided weird instances like the Crimson Splitjaw, which normally lives on the 3rd layer, don't come up to the first. This is an incredibly rare occurance, and probably Reg's fault.

I myself dont mind spoilers because it's how it's executed that matters to me, but when people are explaining things you're not supposed to really get until later on, it's frustrating, because then the reactor comes in with a certain mindset, which changes their perspective. If Luke only heard the "MiA is a good introduction to a different side of anime, darker content especially" That'd be fine cause it's vague enough, but I see comments giving info from Ep 6-7-8-9 etc as basic knowledge that you're supposed to learn through the eyes of the MCs

@AnimeCenter they are explained in the show, well enough to understand what's happening. Giving specific metrics and descriptions beyond what the show provides IS spoilers because it's more than what they want to tell, before they wanted to tell it.

With regards to the "questionable content", as the show goes on it progressively gets more disturbing. By the end of season one, it's inappropriate for Twitch or Youtube really. With the movie, it's even worse. With season two, it's practically indescribable. Right now, they're just in the peaceful town of Orth where nothing bad ever really happens. This will change, mark my words.

it literally pains me when people skip the openings so I always gotta go to another tab and play it in the jump of him skipping it LOL. I feel like it adds to the show a lot, so I'm definitely a person who always watches openings and endings. Yes....the cave raiders are the main threat in the abyss.....sure.... XD

Yeah I'd say the OP is spoiler free, but the ED I'd advice against watching, I'd consider it to have spoilers. Or at the least start making you waiting to expect things.

Late to this reaction because I had to watch the show before I could poke at these - but you should at least do one op and ending reaction (even if you've reacted to them before) As far as I've found you haven't done the op yet? So it would have been great to see for this one. But also because your thoughts might change as you are midway! And it's a nice treat to get to re-experience at least once (obviously it'd have to be skipped for youtube reactions but it would definitely be a good habit to keep in for series)
