Kurokiji

You have to watch Helsing Ultimate Abridged after this, it will be....

AchmodinIV SWE

I find it funny how small the coffin is

Florian M

First of all, synchronization is always done by native speakers. So japanese people will never do the english voice. Secondly, I still prefer the japanese version (so... sub). Espacially for Alucard.

Thibaut

dubbed? gonna pass, sorry

Animeter

The majority wanted the dub version. I am from germany and I also prefer the sub version. But it's okay.

stokbaek

sub all the way.

Kurokiji

The only dub version of this anime that I like is the Abridged version from TFS

Szayel H

Honestly I don't really mind sub or dub on this anime but I do prefer Alucards JP VA more. Watch whatever you injoy the most

Madara_Uchiha_2022

Luke if you want subtitles that’s synced with the Dub Audio then you’ll need to make an Funimation Account since the dub was made by Funimation themselves

Madara_Uchiha_2022

Also I grew up with the Dub version back in 2006 so that’s why I have a strong preference for watching it in Dub and also Alexander Anderson’s Dub VA is from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 like me so I was quite happy to know that.

Zack

Personally I prefer the dub. I love all the accents and Crispin Freeman gives me chills as Alucard

dragonguard666

I only have the first episode to judge the sub off from last week but overall I prefer the dub, the voices fit better with the setting and I love the dub voices of Integra and Anderson. I think both versions are solid and I don't think one version is vastly better than the other. I'll watch any version.

Eviltwin01

Yeah the dub of this is awesome, one of my favorites.

Misteryk

Idk why don't we just have a vote sub/dub. On twitch there is always flood of ppl screaming for dub and it ends up with 85% of ppl voting for subs

Miklar Sihn

I really like this dub, but i do like both. I just think the dub works better overall.

Xortron

You definitely have to watch the Abridged afterwards!

Hængeklumpen

This whole Dub Vs sub thing is ridiculous. Everyone knows dub in hellsing is the best

AchmodinIV SWE

I don’t have a preference for sub or dub with hellsing ultimate, so it doesn’t matter too me

ColdHeart 1c3

One of the better dubs out there, the voice acting feels more natural, and I agree, I don’t get the sun dub war

Wizhito

Pls watch it subtitled, the entire experience is as originally made, this time I pass

Borealiss

Sub is higher quality. But dub is great for this show since it has a lot of English names and phrases that sounds out of place in Japanese. Subtitles on the dub is only for when Japanese text appears on screen.

KannagiBoiya

I dont have preference but I mostly watched anime in subs. but if the dub is this good with diverse voice actors and actress with diff. accents I think I liked the dub.... But I still do prefer subs over dubs xD since I have a hard time understanding what they say without subtitles. SOOOOO if ever Luke finds a way to make Dubs with subtitles, Its a win win for me xD

Patrick Jacobsen

english Alucard just sounds... wrong.

Frentzy

I prefer sub just because it has subtitles. Basically I prefer any version that has subtitles, be it dub or sub.

Sai

No offense to the dub crowd but dub anime hits my ears wrong and then there is localization.

Frentzy

There is no poll from what I remember on sub or dub. I think he just saw ton of dub comments (like usual the dub army. He should just make a poll, then it's pretty much simple). NEVER RELY ON COMMENTS, there are always more dub comments than sub comments. Sub ppl don't comment as much as dub ppl.

Anonymous

I saw the first Hellsing from 2002 subbed, then i watch the 2012 Ultimate remake also subbed, I always gonna prefer the original voices, but if you wanna watch the dubbed version it's ok. As long as you enjoy the story.

Frentzy

He's new to this "sub/dub" thingie. Comments never reflect reality, a poll does. I bet it's tiresome to make a poll sub/dub for every anime, if he would do that, he would never watch ever a dub anime, cuz I bet you, no way DUB win in 99% cases. I also think half of ppl want subtitles to read to understand better and miss less stuff and that's why they hate dub.

Anonymous

I prefer the dub just because of Alucard. His English voice is so good!

dragonguard666

Hellsing Abridged is a very well made fan comedic cut down version of the show. Lots of laughs to be had.

dragonguard666

Just feels like sub purists not wanting their animes to be 'tainted'. Automatically disregarding all dubs. Bit silly really. I do generally go for subs, but I would still watch a good dub, especially this with people with British accents for a show set in Britain and Nazis with German accents.

Anonymous

After you watch this you should also see Hellsing Ultimate Abridged edition from Team Four Star. It is a parody of this. The episodes are around 12 minutes and are heavily edited. It's one of the best abridged series out there. It combines darkness with extreme humor and oh my god the puns and jokes it contains.

WarTalon

This one is a really good dub. Glad to see your getting a chance to experience it.

Eviltwin01

Granted this is one of the shows even a lot of channels that generally do sub only switch for. Its not just "The usual dub army". There are a few shows like this one that are THE shows people generally agree the dub is better and thus channels usually switch for them. Examples include This show and Cowboy Beebop being less contentious with Fullmetal Alchemist and Steins Gate being more debatable

Slipstream

Dubs for this anime.

Eliana

I don't mind dub, and I'll watch anyway Luke prefers. Whoever, as a non-native speaker who's been there on the level where you can't clearly understand accents, I really empathized with others when Luke mentioned he couldn't get closed captions, as it would help other non-native speakers. I can understand it's not usual for people to go out or their way to think about accessibility to their own language, so Luke really have my appreciation there. Now for something completely different, dub companies in my country are very mindful of trying to match closely the mouth movements with the sounds when characters speak, usually changing word choices and sentence structures to accomplish it without changing the general meaning of what's being said. As I only ever watched Hellsing(all versions) subbed, noticing so many instances of characters talking with their mouths shut threw me a little off guard; mainly because people here praised the dub to high heavens. I'm not saying the dub is bad because of it, I just found it quite interesting to point out

Anonymous

Dub Please as I Am A Massive Fan Of The Different Accents

Anonymous

Yeah, i think that many non-native speakers may have trouble understanding the dub. Without sub, they simply lose the quality of the show.

Simo Turkich

I prefer subs for 99% of anime but this one is a good dub

Lu C

Police girl is Seras Victoria 😉 Hey, the portrait was of the Queen Elizabeth, not Victoria. 😁 Hellsing Abridged besides the humour it ads to Aludard 2 characters songs 'Ready to die' and 'Party party party', plus Alucard misbehaving and even tweeting 😂

Lloyd

Great. And now this classic is ruined because americans have the reading comprehension of a 5 year old.

Lukash

I prefer this anime in following order: 1.Abridged 2.Sub 3.Dub

DeusSilvam

The dub seems fine, I guess. I always use sub for anime and I think that should be the default version to watch. Especially since subtitles might not be available for dubs all the time. Many people (like myself) watch everything with subtitles, as it helps with dialogues that might be mumbled/heavily accented/quiet etc.

Kasper Rask Jensen

This one is one of the best examples of "DUB can be good". Definitely a vote in favour of keeping it DUB.

Abe J

I listen to 90% sub but if I find a good one I prefer dub. It allows you to watch the anime closer instead of staring at the text. Besides having the accent right they need to get the word and tone right too. Another really good dub is FMA brotherhood.

Anonymous

i think the dub just adds that little extra on this with the accents

Brian

The dub is simply better. No need to insult people because you have a different opinion.

Bård Fredrikson

The Abridged version of Hellsing is definitely more comedic in nature, but it's more faithful than one might suspect and it definitely makes Alucard a lot more lol-random.

Ryuden Tamarashi

many many points to make on this video, I'll try to keep it brief: 1: The Legend heard us! Dubs for the show are SO enjoyable because of the MANY accents that come into play, especially the British (funny you should point out that they aren't super 'pip pip cheerio' when those people would more reasonably be like that, as they are older and from a past time) and, as you now know, German! (also Alucards voice is just butter), this is a perfect episode for it with Luke being a menace shouting the Konami code amongst...other things. 2: If you want the Subtitles i can provide you with HD files for the show with Eng., Jap, or Eng. with commentary, and subtitles as an option. they aren't perfect translations sadly, but the offer is there if you want. 2: the emphasis they put on the soldiers is really awesome for the tone. the ending credits for this episode actually shows them holding a massive funeral for all the deceased soldiers, and its actually rather emotional. 3: ending Credits. up to you if you want to watch them, as they can provide really interesting insights into past or present events. also future too, so ill warn of any that can be heavily spoiler territory the episode before they happen. Episode 3 is a 'before the show' one, but it is mildly spoilerish so up to you. 4: After Credit scenes: there are a few, the first one is in episode 5 i believe, so ill talk about them then. 5: The abridged. Absolutely positively HAVE to watch this after the show. it is bloody brilliant.

Matt Thompson

For this one, Dub is very preferable almost entirely because of Crispin Freeman for me. He's not as featured in shows as he warrants. On a different note, anybody mentioned that the creator was almost exclusively hentai till Hellsing? 😅

Ryuden Tamarashi

its exactly this. If you notice all the people saying 'DUBS!? im gonna pass/not watch' when it was subbed the people asking for dubs weren't threatening to not watch it because of that, they just prefer the dubs. if he goes back to sub it will suck for me, but ill still watch it because I just love the show that much. I'm heavily a dub watcher, but even i can say most shows subs are 'better' (Looking at you, terrible Haikyuu dub) but...i speak English, i understand intonation and emotion in English, it is better FOR ME. can we not have this one sub fans? you can get literally every other anime except this one (okay this one, Ghost stories, and maybe panty/stocking. but that's a short list)

Lux

This is one of the rare cases, where i would say: dub is pretty much 50/50. you fine with both. I actually would recommend for you the english dub. can't really go wrong with it in my opinion

Ultraporing

I'm fine with the dub of the British ppl, but the German accents suck as always .

Legacy

He,s british lol. Dub is just better for this show anyways

Ultraporing

Deadman Wonderland, Tokyo Ghoul and Elfen Lied are 3 nice Anime too, which should be a bit darker^^. And regarding FMAB dub, I think there are several miscast voices in there. For example many don't like ed's higher pitched voice in Jap dub, but makes sense the dude is still a kid.

Joseph Jaquinto

The dub is soooo good in this show

Júlia Stocco

The dub was strange to me in the first five minutes, but it's actually very good! To me dub or sub is fine, as long as the dub version also has subtitles. I loved Walter voice the most! Please react to the old anime opening and ending from Hellsing. And, please react to Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust! It's one OVA but idk if it can go to youtube.

Jean-Philippe Forest

i prefer subs, i see a lot of people bashing one way or another, shaming people for refusing to watch it because it's not in their preferred language. here's MY take on this. I always watch a show for the first time in its original language with subtitles, and I'll sit through it if I'm re-watching something and its a dub, but only if I've already experienced the original.

Skeletan

Again he's taking so much time to talk about the patreon instead of about the damn show lmao just make a separate post if you got so many questions

Luke

Abridged just means shortened while still giving the sense of whole story. Abridged animes tend to be more comedic. Would love to see a reaction to Hellsing Abridged by TeamFourStar after this. It's just shy of 3 hours long all together

Moxx

Abridged means shortened, generally only providing the most essential parts of the story so you can get the gist without having to go through the entire movie/show/book. Like the abridged version of Moby Dick is like a third of the original's length. In the case of "abridged" YouTube videos, it takes it to the extreme, condensing dozens or hundreds of episodes to like a half hour, and generally also mocking the show in a parody/comedic fashion. It's usually funny, but that's not what "abridged" itself means.

Techno Chemist

Bitches love cannons is a reference to the abridge. The abridge for Hellsing is just as dark, but focuses more on dark comedy.

Sneaky_Arachnid

Yes they did hire British actors to fill the roles of some of the cast. I believe the voice actor who does Seras Victoria for the first half of the show was the young woman on the tv show 'Absolutely Fabulous".

RealTimeNoob

Yes Do the Ghost Stories DUB it is the best.

Robert Franklin

As you watch more Anime, you will find that a lot of the super serious ones do has some odd comedy in them too. Demon Slayer is a good example of this.

Joseph Jaquinto

You should watch Hellsing Ultimate Abridged too! It's a parody series of Hellsing Ultimate on youtube that everyone in the community loves

Anonymous

The problem with the Dub VS Sub votes is that people who watch Sub only tend to never even attempt Dub so they dont know the difference for which is better but will whole heartedly vote for subbed every time which is why most votes will turn out in favor of Sub. There are plenty of shows that have amazing Dub work that surpass even the original verions... This show being one of them! One Piece is another awesome Dub especially for the length!

Kalisa Fox

prefer dub for this anime but either or is really fine, i dont really subscribe to DUB or SUB is always best, i usually just go for what i enjoy for that specific show, or if its a brand new anime i typically watch in sub because dub is afew weeks behind, if its a show i really like il watch both to catch the differences.

Anonymous

Alucard is just so damn cool! Black Butler is an awesome anime you should check out too.

wildhunt1973

I don't mind either way, I just prefer dub so I can pay attention to the animation and not the words (and having to pause or back up because there are three conversations going on at the same time and reading that much in two seconds is a bit difficult). Japanese, Asian, and Russian movies, I will always go for the subtitles. Anime for some reason is a completely different story. I think it's because I tried watching Dragon Ball Z subtitled once and Goku's voice actor annoyed the heck out of me.

Psychotic :D

dub is good with this one

Tom Boggess

in the words of team four star, bitches love cannons

The Luminary

I do definitely prefer sub, I speak Japanese and its just generally my preferred language to watch things in, however I am quite impressed with the dub and wouldn't be upset if it continued in dub.

Justin Smith

The abridged version is done by a group called Team Four Star. They were a group of people who did their own abridged series, which is as you said a parody of the source material, that came together and did DBZA (Dragon Ball Z Abridged) and got very popular from it. They eventually started making other abridged series with Hellsing being one of them. DBZA and Hellsing are what they are probably most known for. The thing with most abridged works is that they just aren't good quality be it the writing, misuse of the source material, voice acting, or all 3. The thing with TFS (Team Fourstar) is that their 1st season of DBZA is their weakest, still good but in comparison to the others, but the writing, comedic timing, voice quality, and actually created a plot that was similar to the source material but also its own thing started with season 2 and sky rocketed and that happened with their other works as well. Hellsing abridged episode 1 is probably the weakest, if I remember right it was done around the end of their season 1 of DBZA where they were starting to get their legs in production, but going forward it just got so much better. Fun fact is they would release a new episode of the hellsing abridged every halloween so as you watched you saw how much more they grew. Alot of people who have seen the original and abridged, both for DBZ and Hellsing, will say the abridged version is their preferred. I love both the source and abridged equally but as the creators for the abridged said they didn't make them to try to be better than the original but to pay homage to the source and just put their flair on it. TLDR Yes you should watch the abridged after you finish. You will absolutely enjoy it since you are having fun with the original.

Lu C

This Dub has an added layer - accents, not only british one. It makes more sense that the nazi commander would speak English with German accent + mixing a little german words here and there... And so on. The original VAs seems to speak all standard Japanese with some English here and there. And even if there were several japanese accents/dialects I probably wouldn't be able to distinguish them. Fan fact and 'spoiler' from the original source (Dracula) > why Alucard hasn't an eastern European accent? Because he asked Jonathan Harker to teach him the proper pronunciation of an English gentleman so he would sound not like a foreigner in UK 😉

Thamor

Not true, and same argument can be made that Dub version voters are biased towards and mostly only people whose main language is english and they don't want to hear any other language in any show they watch. Original language > dubbed language

Thamor

My policy is always watch show in the original language, this is a story made in Japan for japanese people with japanese VA's voicing being the original. Any dubbed version is, basically for people who can't read and don't want to listen to foreign language they don't understand. I don't watch Simpsons dubbed in japanese is very easy example.

Municipal

I'm not a fan of dubs because is better original voice + subs but this case it sounds a special case because it happens in UK so english dubs looks fine but what I miss the most are the subs :-/ I hope it gets solved in the next episodes

Uwe

Personally i would prefer the sub version

Varity

The dub version is, definitely, uniquely well done among anime dubs. You should also consider watching the endings, they're usually linked to what happens and each episode has a unique one so its never the same song or visuals twice.

S0ulSp4de

I'm always "team sub" as a "non native english speaker" It's either way not my native language, so I will always prefer the jap dub with eng sub.

Tendo HD

i like the dub one more for this anime

GrumpyOldAndy

The dub has some very strange wording, for example why the heck is Integra saying "officer" into the radio? The soldiers are military, and would be addressed by their rank, "captain" and if unknown, "soldier", never officer. While the accents may be good, I feel there really isn't the same emotional quality to the dub.

Mister Eiffel

As much as I appreciate the dubs, Crispin Freeman's got a weird filter over his voice that I don't really enjoy. Also, Jōji Nakata's japanese dub is to die for, especially in any emotional scenes.

Mister Eiffel

I'd say it's worth keeping an eye on the likes count of the video. While I know this episode was posted recently compared to the other one, and I don't see as many people liking comments advocating for the subs, I wouldn't be surprised if it's because some sub enthusiasts just decided not to watch. If there's anyway on your backend to see viewership, I'd definitely investigate that if I were you.

Anonymous

I’m a sub guy, but the dubs pretty ait, so I’m good either way

Rinnosuke

Either way is fine, though this and FMA:Brotherhood are the only 2 shows I ever rewatched dubbed and liked it more.

KajL

I don’t like dub because it takes away japanese voice actors performance and that is what contributes a lot in making anime special and unique experience. And argument that “characters are x nationality so they should be voiced in x national language” leads to situations “where elves should be voiced by elves” etc.

Anonymous

I would like you to continue with the dub because I would like to hear your takes/opinions as a person from the UK on all the voice acting and different dilects a non UK person would otherwise not know or understand

Nattis_O

If you like this art style. You also have Drifters that are from the same author as Helsing. It is great! I like it much better than Helsing. But you might have to google some historical characters. But it is a good story with funny characters.

Anonymous

It is true, there is a stigma attached to watching Dub within the anime community. Many people who watch dubs dont even like to admit it.., I always watch original first and then when I rewatch ill watch in Dub

Gabrielle Denise

Dub please!!! Crispin Freeman is amazing as Alucard!!!

Levo

Officer is used in certain ranks so they are being addressed by their rank. Search Officer in QuoDB under war movies & you'll see tons of soldiers being addressed as Officer. I guess Zulu & Patton are just as strange as Hellsing.

Elevnovs

but tbh the english dub is fine

Gabrielle Denise

Bitches love cannons!!! Comes from the spoofversion Hellsing Ultimate Abridged by TeamFourStar. It's on YouTube. And all Hellsing fans know it!!!

Anonymous

the dub is legendary.

Legacy

keep dub

Sin from Genesis

Hellsing Ultimate is basically a reboot of Hellsing... i suggest you watch the Hellsing Opening song "A world without Logos"

Kami Nator

I like both Dub and Sub on this Anime

Sabrina_In_Horrorland

The German voices of Alucard and Jan Valentine sound sooo cool. Maybe you want to give it a listen for fun? :D

Thamor

Is Drifters manga progressed any further, it was totally in hiatus at one point.

Eviltwin01

Not sure that is all there is to it though. Yes less likes could infer it in the way you say, but also almost always in any video series for reactions/Lets plays, etc the 1st part/Vid/Episode always has more views/Likes. After which some people will always drop off for many reasons, even in cases where a Sub/Dub choice isnt in the mix, Series premiers will always have a touch more, as do Final vids/Finales

Tom Boggess

i feel like we're all running an experiment on him to see what an anime fan is like if they start with seinen (mature anime) anime instead of shonen (anime for teens and kids, primarily boys)

Lijnaito2021 !

Man the dub is so good could you imagine Japanese John valentine? Never could have been as funny as this one 🤣 also to hear alucard not arcuard is so much better that was throwing me off last episode!

Anthony Shepherd

WTF did I just watch??? That dub turned my favourite Dark Horror anime into a Comedy!!!!!! Needless to say I much preferred the Sub, it was allot darker in the tones with less comic relief.

Anthony Shepherd

If this is a good dub I would hate to see a bad one, this completely changed the tone of the show from Dark Horror to Comedy.

Anthony Shepherd

Yep, be it live action or anime I prefer to watch shows/movies in their original language with subs too.

Rnn

yeah, I don't mind the dub but I would much rather the sub as well

Anonymous

Please continue with sub.

Nattis_O

I think there has been a chapter here and a chapter there. But it hasn't really progressed much, which is sad. Because this is one of my favourite anime and I would have liked to see it continue and see how it ends. I just hope it doesn't end like Helsing Ulitmate. I like my ending more understandable and less weird. Even if I liked Helsing I just didn't like the ending.

Some0neElse

I think after watching Hellsing you will be ready for Higurashi for your next Patreon exclusive

DaLava

Everyone has their opinion but I prefer the sub better for this

Fusssel

I do always prefere the original Audio (no matter if anime, Hollywood movie or else there is). I don't mind the eng dub if it is what the majority wants (the missing subtitles don't hurt me either).

Anonymous

i agree the german dub is great but english still just fits the best for the setting

Anonymous

i prefer the dub

Anonymous

Honestly either sub/dub works. Personally prefer dub but fine with either. Although regardless of which one you watch, HIGHLY recommend watching the abridged version at some point (and abridged just technically means a summarized version, although it is frequently done with a more comedic tone when done on anime). Made by the guys at Team Four Star.

Sabrina_In_Horrorland

That's ok, I meant that he should only listen to the two voices once. Not that he should watch the whole anime in German.

Aurora Raven

For what it's worth, my vote is for the dub.

Arcade'owy Łowca

They sound bri'ish xD B^ches love canons xD It's from hellsing abridged by tfs, and it's a must watch :3 First time is the time of your life experience. TeamFourStar [tfs] did an award worthy job by recreating the story into a heavy sattire.

Dominoxowy

For me its always sub. It's far better.

Casey Mitchell

The dub isn't bad, but you lose SO MUCH emotion with it. The english voice actors just don't pour their very souls into it like the japanese dub, imo. I highly recommend the sub for this series.

Gomez and Cook

Sub is usually better but I like to watch an anime and not read it so that's why I always watch both I watch a show twice I liked the dub in this one more so yeah dub yes even one piece that took a while watching it twice

Mr. Dog

I have to agree with Casey Mitchell that there is so much emotion lost in English dubs. Not all of them but most are quite lacking in emotion. I prefer the Japanese subs. However the dubs are decent too. Since Hellsing is broken up into two types. The OVA and the TV series I would say that if you ever get to the TV version, don't watch the dub as it has different actors. The sub is superior. And while I say the Hellsing dub is decent, it's passable at best. The only thing that makes the Hellsing Dub any good is they got the accents down. but that's it. It's not as emotional. As an anime fan I don't mind watching bothe versions for Hellsing, but I do prefer the Japanese version better. Also some of the line the valentine brothers say are heavily toned down in the English dub. The beany hat dude in the Japanese dub said he'd kill Integra and rape her corpse. So just to let you know the script is a bit different in the Englsh dub compared to the Japanese dub and at times it's almost like a different story since motives can change. (until you get to the main villain) Also if anything I wish you had started the dub on the 3rd episode rather than the second. As this episode is quite famous from the Japanese version.

Alex

Idk if this has been answered yet but if you're watching it on crunchyroll, they usually don't have subtitles for the dubbed shows except in a few select cases. IDK why

Gomez and Cook

I don't really get the whole sub and dub thing but a dub has to do something special for people to recognize honestly I speak both languages and none are my native tongues both dub and sub are usually about the same quality sub does win a little more but by a slim margin especially newer anime usually either is fine

Mr. Dog

Also if you watch the English Dub on Crunchyroll you cannot have subtitles. It's hard coded into the website ever since they upgraded to that horrible beta site that has a dark theme.

Myths of Confusion

I just can't get used to dub, always feels wrong to me, don't know why

Zdmn

Because it is. Japanese voice actors are unmatched. Watching a Japanese anime dubbed in English is atrocious. Not to mention the fact you get educated in Japanese and little by little learn new words. There's literally no reason to watch anything in dub, ever. Just pure laziness.

Markus Wallin

The dub is not garbage, i just like the sub more because generally the original voice actors are better and in this they still are and that is also just how I like to watch them. As soon as Jojo's Bizarre adventure stopped having British people in them it got better, but i still preferred the subs.

Lijnaito2021 !

How about the fact that it takes place in Britain you know nowhere close to Japan, The voice is fit the anime

Lijnaito2021 !

Has he announced How he's going to watch it because I definitely see more dub comments than sub

Eviltwin01

I dont think so. I think the way we will figure out will probably just be from the Episode 3 reaction itself. (Then i suppose we will see what he decides to do). So far i have done a count of comments for both (Although i didnt check the names every time so there could have been some repeats) but by boiling down each comment in the most honest interpretation possible (Excluding replies) so far Pro Dub comments are at 41 and Pro Sub are at 35. So its pretty close all things said but by pure numbers dub does marginally have a lead. Like Most Dub/Sub arguments there is a loss either way you go (Damned if ya do damned if ya dont), so he just has to make a choice and stick with it (For consistency sake). Caz if we keep flipping languages to compare then i think more people will just skip the series then if ya stick with one. Also this cant really be avoided when you switch after ep 1 of any show there will always be some contention. Usually the pro sub folk are in the majority outside of like 5ish shows that at some point rather through nostalgia or just more people that liked the Dub that it flips enough people to matter. (Also i do think there is a bit of a bias in the sense of whichever version you first watched it in a lot of the time ends up being the once people like more. Also in know the Hellsing abridged was alot of peoples first exposure to the show and they after watching that watched the original, and if you are coming from and English version like the Abridged you might be more likely to watch the dub afterword. Also short note that both Abridged Alucard and Anime Dub Alucard actually do end up pretty similar sounding, the guy in the abridged did a great job in that and many other respects)

I am hoping for a sub watching, once again not because the dub sucks. I just find the sub voices more refined and memorable.

Slayer666

I always watch Dub unless its really bad or annoying which is rare. I like to watch a show personally. Don't really like subs.

KajL

Saying that machining of nationality/language of va and character makes it good is saying at the same time that not matching makes it bad. So when we have a character with non existing race/language in the real world that makes his dubbing automatically bad because no va can match it. This logic only makes sense if the whole point of the show is to be realistic and Hellsing or most anime are not aiming for that. Furthermore Alucard and most of the new characters aren't British so going with the argument “matching makes it good” makes their english voice acting bad.

dragonguard666

Dude I watch most anime subbed. I just don't automatically disregard every dub ever made. Truthfully, I watched this originally dubbed and really liked it. Luke reacted it to it sub on first episode and honestly, while still good, I just didn't like it as much. And that is my opinion. Just as it's my opinion that suggesting that the personal opinion that a dub of one particular anime feels right to that viewer because of it's real world locale is equivalent to fictional elves should be voiced by fictional elves is a crazy sounding take. The story is fantasy yes, but it's not in an isekai world or whatever, it's Earth's Britain, it's not that outlandish for people to like the dub of this on the basis that Brits speak English and not Japanese. There's this thing called disconnect. Of course if it's elves, then sure, it doesn't matter at all what language they speak, and in that case the original sub is likely better. It's a strange logic leap to make to justify total sub purity. We are all people with our own preferences, anime to anime. We should be respectful to each other's preferences and not treat watching a dub as a super blasphemous thing. I'll watch this sub or dub. I really don't mind.

corey becker

agreed dub is better

corey becker

see this is the logic i hate, if people go by this logic we will never get dub

corey becker

dub is just a more enjoyable watch 90% of the time , and im speaking for me and everyone else with dyslexia i hate trying to read and watch at the same time exspecailly when dub is a option the only time i will ever watch a dub is if i watched 1 season that has a dub and the S2 doesnt or if i hear nothing but good things about a show but it doesnt have a DUB

corey becker

look the only way your arguement would be valid is if the watcher could speak sub otherwise all you are realling doing is listening to what is basicly gibberish while reading AND on top of that you guys never taken in to consideration the people like me with dyslexia

Fusssel

Everyone their own, just because I prefer the original audio doesn’t mean everyone has to

Thamor

Sorry for that, but your point doesn't dismiss my opinion. You can still watch shows, this is point of enjoyment through reactions.

Hellsing Ultimate: Abridged is sooooo hilarious, arguably better than the actual show

Bitches Love CANNONS!

Szadek96

The only thing that separates sub and dub to me is a few bits of wordplay in later episodes that don't really work in the sub that got rewritten in the dub.

Alucard has restrictions on his power, but he very much was not the one to put those restrictions into effect. They were imposed upon him, and are directly tied to the Hellsing family bloodline, of which Integra is the last.

Szadek96

The original Hellsing dedicated several episodes to Seras going on missions with the ordinary rank and file agents of Hellsing. The task of putting them down after this fight hit even harder than it does here.

Shadowy Fox

All of your British accents come not just from British folks but from classically trained British actors. Those are their real accents. Alucard's voice actor is a classically trained opera singer/former Broadway star.

How about respecting how a show was made originally instead of destroying it by introducing lazy western voice actors who don't give two craps about the animation they're about to dub? The original work was in Japanese, so stick to Japanese. I would tell you the same if the show was in German, French, Portuguese, Swaili or ancient Greek for all I care. Respect the original work. Get educated in a new language and stop being lazy. If you have issues watching subbed works, you probably need to open a book from time to time. It can't be bad for you.

Something I only just now noticed...you don't hear gunshot when she's putting down the ghouls. You just hear shells. It's not until the last round that you hear a gunshot. Also, I adore that there's the reference to Los Angeles, since the voice director for the dub is native to LA.

Puraido Eustass

Hmm, English is good too. Haven't watched it in English either.

Cyrill Attakpah

i really hope the following episodes arent dubs aswell

Viktor

Sorry I can't just watch this in English. I understand it's in set in England and such, but it's still my top show and original is so insanely good. Good reaction.
