Comments

Beta Knight

I have come to find out that he reacted to spy x family openings but not the endings, sad

Some0neElse

Ive been waiting for this one :D This was actually one of the very first animes i watched way back in 2006. Before that ive only watched Yu-gi-oh, 1 arc from OG Naruto and some random episodes from Shaman king. Needless to say - this one had completely different vibe than the rest. You could say it was my "Attack on titan"

Luke Evans

Just to let you know if there was ever a time to watch an anime dubbed it is this one

Nyarlathotep

I'll watch it but this, fullmetal alchemist, cowboy bebop and Trigun are some I'll always prefer dubbed. Very unfortunate he's doing sub. These subs are trash btw. Arucard?

Luke Evans

https://classroom.synonym.com/caused-england-catholic-church-separate-6935.html

Luke Evans

This link is the reason why Catholics don't like England in the show I believe, but I could be mistaken

Ultraporing

Welcome Luke to my childhood, watched the non ultimate version on mtv as a kid and it got me into Anime :). Enjoy the ride, you asked for it ;). And FYI we need to get you to watch Berserk and FMAB, 2 more master pieces of old.

Marlon Albrecht

are you still going to watch caselvania at one point?

Martin Vaclavik

finally, I'll be watching something for the first time as well with you, cant wait to be as confused as you always are :D

Disrespktd

One of the animes i enjoy in dub

Frentzy

Someone tell him the translation is weird. His name is Alucard (read backwards), the L and R in japan is basically pronounced the same, the ones who translated, probably didn't watched the series.

Eviltwin01

This show has one of the best English dubs.

Some0neElse

hmmm are they purposely misspelling things in the subs. I know i used to watch the dub so its kinda weird

Gabrielle Denise

His name is Alucard. And he is the king of vampires!

dragonguard666

Yeah I watched the dub on this, it was very good. This sub feels like it's mocking Japanese pronunciation with the 'Arucard' sub.

Cayde-6♤

You have to do Hellsing Ultimate after

Jennifer Dallas

I’m not gonna lie, for this anime, I actually prefer the English Dub over the Japanese Sub. The first is that the anime itself is based in England, the other is that the dub is absolutely phenomenal. For Hellsing Ultimate, the Sub has always been sub-par for me.

Cayde-6♤

Didn't pay attention to the title, figured if he was watching Hellsing the original would come first then ultimate.

Aaron Yin

The vampire's name is supposed to be Alucard, Dracula spelled in reverse

CriticalStriker

Hellsing isn't bad or anything but of all the animes, was Hellsing really voted #1?

Ultraporing

there were only 2 to pick. castlevania and hellsing ultimate. I like the series so I don't mind. And think Berserk would be something Luke would enjoy or the Gyo movie (although its more fucked up), despite the questionable cg in some scenes.

Cayde-6♤

He had been talking about wanting a good horror type anime so people voted for it to give him one to watch

Cayde-6♤

The whole L to R thing is a big thing in Japanese to English translation. Basically there is know L sound so they use an R instead.

Kalisa Fox

Shiki is a pretty good horror anime as well, very short but always like to return to it around halloween time. Also agree with others on this, this was a show I watched the Dub in and i feel like its allot better then the sub on this one, they dont even get the name right. This is one of the core classic anime, allot of us grew up watching stuff like this, gundam wing, Trigun, old but good.

dragonguard666

Keep in mind the patreon exclusives are geared to stuff not suitable for youtube. There is one particular scene in this show that crosses that line. Many more popular animes would be just fine on youtube.

Christoffer Conrad

I personally watched this in dub, and having seen the first episode with the sub now, I agree that Hellsing Ultimate's dub is better than the sub. Would be cool if you could give the dub a spin, think you'll like it as well :)

Reddawn Rocker

Luke, there are quite a few proper horror anime but they're not all "monster" anime. There's a lot of decent psychological and supernatural horror-based anime. Higurashi (When They Cry), Ookami Kakushi, Boogiepop, Parasyte, Tokyo Ghoul, Garden of Sinners (Kara no Kyoukai), Empire of Corpses, Gantz, Another, Psycho-pass, Chaos;Head/Chaos;Child, Alice in Borderland, Danganronpa, Hell Girl, Future Diary, School-Live, The Promised Neverland, Box of Goblins, Denpa-teki na Kanojo, Kagewani, Psychic Detective Yakumo, Darwin's Game, Island of Giant Insects, King's Game, Corpse Party and Shiki are some examples of good supernatural and psychological horror anime.

Slipstream

Elfen Lied for patreon exclusive! For this anime: Dubs > Subs

syaimaral

Maybe the lack of horror anime is due to the animation quality. It might be difficult to depict horror with these kind of graphics. It would have to be more rough, more nitty gritty. Some of the old art styles of anime have this. I'm still waiting for that reaction to ops and eds of higurashi. That is a classic horror anime. Also shiki. That is a horribly uncomfortable creepy horror anime.

Serhil

Watched it in dub and don't regret it. While sub is usually better, this is definitely not the case here

Some0neElse

that i know. just was curious about the current translation if its because of that or its to hide you know what

Mr. Dog

The gun the police girl is carrying is an anti-tank artillery gun. These guns are impossible for a single human to carry and they are those guns you see mmounted on military helicopters or SUVs. These are armor piercing rounds that can easily penetrate the plating of a tank. Also it's Catholics and Protestants that are at war with each other. They are both of Christianity. In the Hellsing universe Catholics are in Ireland an the Vatican from Rome and Protestants are from the UK. Hellsing also takes the view of the time when Ireland still had beef with England. Last of all if what you are looking for is horror type stuff. I suggest Shiki, Kara no Kyoukai, Ghost Hunt, and any of the Devilman anime except for Devilman Crybaby (don't watch Devilman Crybaby as it sucks).

Brian

Hell yes so pumped for this. I hate Death Note but this anime is phenomenal. Idk if you can or want to but this is a rare example I'd promote the English dub over sub.

Nyarlathotep

Sorry jusr wondering how many catholics got annoyed when you called protestants Christian and catholics just catholic. I'm not religious just know that it's pissing someone off lol. Also this is not spoilers but the subs are really bad. His name is Alucard not Arucard. If you insist on watching sub for this you have to know this. And Anderson did a tactical retreat.

Lu C

Nice detail about the police cars that they are like from 15 years ago. 👍 So it matches the time of the release of this episode, 2006. Loved the first reaction. Do you have a favourite fictional vampire? Could this Alucard replace them? Please, checkout the taste to the English Dub, rewatch part of the first episode. It turn up the atmosphere of the characters to the top. Plus you get the accents, as not every character is from UK. 😁 You will understand later... Btw Hellsing seams to follow the anime trope/rule that human body contains 12 galons/45 liters of blood under high presure 😂

James H. Hobbs

Protestant Religions and Catholicism both fall under Christianity. The reason a Catholic would get annoyed if you call them a Protestant, is because the term Protestant comes from them protesting against the Catholic religion. There's been a lot of bad blood from both sides, mostly centuries ago. Mostly only the hardcore believers will get truly upset over the slight nowadays.

Nyarlathotep

It's more so that some fans insist on using the Japanese pronunciation even when it's clearly wrong. Should be arukardo or some shit if japanese but they went half assed. I'll stop tho I have like 3 posts on this 1 episode rn but lol I'm passionate about this dub being better

Mason D

I forgot you meet "Him" in the first episode. Also, when you finish this, you should watch Hellsing abridged in your spare time (We have come to save you/ hurray it's the Catholic Church/ from yourselves/ oh no it's the Catholic Church).

Luke

The english dubbed version is way better for this specific anime.

Madara_Uchiha_2022

Luke this is set in the UK so please listen to it in the legendary dub version.

Mason D

Also ,partially for me since I always forget the name, Gosick is a interesting detective-ish anime with a bit of horror/paranormal/supernatural mixed in.

Thamor

"I am going for a walk"

Conrad Keys

im more of a sub kind of guy but this show is in my opinion better in dub.

ColdHeart 1c3

Personally I believe that the voice acting in the Dub is better than the Sub while it isn’t usually the case it’s rather surprising the difference between them

Brian

Okay after just watching this subbed for the first time in forever I can confidently say the English Dub is a far superior experience.

LDCoach

When you’re ready for another VoicePlay, I’d love to see your reaction to another side of them: Dream On (Aerosmith cover), Nothing Else Matters. I also think you’d enjoy Enemy or The Dragonborn Comes from Skyrim. Thanks for all your reactions.

Archelin

Usually i am a big fan of subs in Anime, but with this one i would also reccommend the dub version. The immersion is simply better with the english voices Also i would like you to react to Gantz, it has a similar vibe to hellsing for me.

Thamor

Shiki is maybe one of the best mystery/horror anime. Still one of my favorites, sadly no reactions to that masterpiece.

Rnn

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex is a good shout for Patreon, I think. Darker, more serious tone, cyberpunk\futuristic style and all that.

Hængeklumpen

Do the dub instead, the dub is gott

Liberty

As others have said, the Dub for this anime is on point - not only because it uses people from the various areas depicted (and thus, accents) but because they picked an amazing cast for it. Also, it's Alucard (Japanese R/L thing at play). Ah-lew-card. >.<)b Lastly, I would love to see you watch the Abridged version of Hellsing (it's on youtube) after the real thing just because it's amazing and a lot of fun. It'd definitely be better for a patreon reaction if only because it does touch on themes a lot more blatantly word-wise than the anime does. It's a great ride though. Love your reactions, as always! Keep up the great work~ As he said, if she'd drunk his blood she would have been a full vampire instead of a Midian (which, iirc, is like a vampire that is thrall to another vampire - thus why she calls him master). If she'd drank it she would have been like him - without a vampiric master and with her own will, able to come back after beheading and such. Much stronger, more capable, and untied to him as a slave.

Ryuden Tamarashi

I'm glad to see the people here know what's good, I hope to see the rest of it in dub with you! I absolutely adore this show, and I am excited to watch the whole thing seeing your reactions to it!!! as a note for the endings, while there ARE some episodes with after credits (i would suggest asking someone to tell you which to lookout for) I'd also say be very careful watching the ending credits themselves. while a lot of them add interesting things or 'off screen' story stuff, a couple of them are VERY spoiler heavy for the next episode.

Daulton Young

Like a lot of others, I'd highly recommend the dubbed version. Top-tier in terms of quality, as this subbed version had some very questionable choices in translations. Honestly, why they translated it to "Arucard", instead of "Alucard", I'll never know.

wildhunt1973

Agreed. His name being Alucard make SO much more sense in the dubbed version. But this anime is amazing. I have to admit, I've never seen Ultimate before (mostly because I keep forgetting about it), but I did watch the original Hellsing. Ultimate is way better, especially dubbed.

Zach Brooks

Higurashi When They Cry is kind of a horror would be a good one to look into

Gregory Giles

Yeah, that is exactly what I was thinking. This anime fits entirely better with proper accents lol

Bluestar

My brother in christ, did you really just say Catholics and christians lol

Varity

Seconding the suggestions to watch it in dub. But also watch the ending credits, each one is entirely different and often themed to the episode. You'll actually be missing out some by skipping them!

Sai

Please keep watching it in sub! PLEASE!

Gomez and Cook

Do the dub my man's I recommend and also devilman crybaby on Netflix is amazing and made for patreon I highly recommend it

Steven H.

Its the way that japanese people pronounce “L”, because its hard for them. Like Enel from one piece, his other name is Eneru.

Nicolas Pellegrinelli

If you're looking for an horror anime, nothing can beat Shoujo Tsubaki ! However prepar your guts and your mind !! Good luck ;)

Tsusaku Cohenat

Yeah, but if you translate that you can't write Alucard any way than that, because if you do, it loose it's special meaning and that is Alucard-Dracula. It not Dracura :)

Sabrina_In_Horrorland

Yäääääy, thank you <3 Please keep watching it in sub

Amberyootoob

I think Mirai Nikki or Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni should be next but I'm just one voice among many

Strang

To clarify the ending, in the source material it's more heavily implied that Seras will be in servitude to Alucard untill she drinks his blood.

Code Chara

Why would you make him watch a worst version of the series by making him watch sub??? Did you not see how bad anderson sounds in sub!?

Slayer666

The English Dub for this one is so good though. RIP

SilverDragon

I too, will put in my recommendation for watching the dub of this. Good dubbed shows seem to be few and far between, and this is definitely has a good dub.

slysyviking

Yes, someone def getting pissed off, entered the comments just to see if someone already mentioned it lmao. I personally am Catholic, since I've heard that being said so much I'm not even offended. Just find the "ignorance" in people a bit funny lol.

dragonguard666

Not quite into it as the dub version I watched. Alucard and Anderson don't sound as good and Integra, my fav character, doesn't seem as bad ass.

Karsten Hase

dunno why they made this, watched the original when i was younger this one feels kind of mehh to me XD

Lukash

after this, just for you, I recommend Abridged version that TeamFourStar guys made on youtube :D amazing voice acting and in my opinion more interesting portrayal of characters :D

Sebastian Stróż

It's simple. Watch things in the original language, always. People telling you to watch anime in English are just like people who would suggest to watch english made shows in other language. Weird and makes no sense.

jose nunes

sub is better

Bryan Wells

I don't know what the fuk this is but it is not the Hellsing I had the pleasure of watching. So far I'm not liking it

Bryan Wells

Junji ito anime sucks doodoo, he should read the manga or not watch them at all, the anime is honestly a disgrace to the source material

Bryan Wells

Completely agree, pacing, explainations, the weird comedic turn after the girl died and the goofy animation style change, I think the original was way better done

Bård Fredrikson

I will echo Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni as a horror anime. It's going to mess with your mind until you *get it*, but the first season is probably all you need.

RavenShadrillion

not many anime i would say the dub is better for but hellsing is one of them plus his name is Alucard but because the Japanese alphabet doesnt have the letter L in it it gets replaced with an R

Mister Eiffel

Actually, I think the gun she has in episode 1 is a more standard sniper rifle. But she does get that upgraded asap

Calja630

Dub for sure I Heavily favor subs but this is a dub anime for sure.

Klowby

So... it's funny. For horror anime it's either very old or gore. Not many studios choose to pick horror mangas to animate, which is a bummer, also it would be heavily censored, so it's better that way.

corey becker

Do the dub Also i do feel Sub is annoying due partly to the fact im Dyslexic also because unless you can read inanely fast your missing out on watching the anime itself in favor of reading so stupid you ending rewinding just to read shit you missed becuase the show assumes you can read fast

Júlia Stocco

Idk why the dub or sub talk, but I think the sub option is better. The only thing that bothers me is they writing "Arucard" instead of "Alucard".

Shadowkiller44

I believe the right terms for Chatholic and Christian church would be Catholics and Protestants. Since Protestants sprung up in germany and tried to reform the church that was kicked off by martin luther and lead to the "European wars of religion" where the thirty year´ war was also part off :D

kiwi

I don't care whether you do sub or dub, but I watched it in sub so I guess that would simply be more "normal". I highly, HIGHLY recommend you watch "Hellsing Ultimate Abridged" by Team Four Stars when you finish this. It is to this day the single funniest piece of media I have ever consumed. I have never laughed as much or as consistently at one thing. They took Alucard and raised his cockiness up to an 11, and removed any unnecessarily long conversations or pauses so every episode went from being 40 minutes long to 15. It is also not very politically correct so if you do watch it, it should definitely be on patreon. (Though I guess since the original is on youtube it's fine)

buzzbomb3000

his name is Alucard. Tis is one of the few animes that the dub is also really good

Bethany

Even if you don't watch the anime in dub, I suggest looking at a few clips from the dub of this anime. It's amazing. Also, I do like me some sexy vampire girls with big ass cannons, and maybe the cockney accent she gets in the dub might just make it even better for me... can't have my vampires sounding too posh, now, can we.

Bethany

You seem to be struggling with the church stuff, so I think some clarification may be needed. It's Catholic vs protestant, and the church of England, the church which the King is the Head of, is protestant. And the Catholic Church, historically, is not a big fan of the protestant churches. Mainly due to them taking funds and chruches from the catholics when they first started coming into existence in the 16th century. So the population of britain may be a pretty even split of catholic and protestant, but those in charge are protestant and thus england is technically a protestant country. The Republic of Ireland, on the other hand, is Catholic, and has had a lot of problems with England over this fact. I mean, Ireland and England have a lot of issues with each other, and the result really has not been pretty, but part of those issues is related to church. Less so now, now its more political, but still. But in this anime, that means that the Vatican is allowed to hunt vampires in the Republic of Ireland but not the UK and the hellsing organisation is allowed to hunt vampires in the UK but not the Republic of Ireland, but there is a little bit of disputed territory, also known as northern Ireland. Which is technically hellsing's duristriction, but the Vatican keeps going into it because its Ireland, afterall.

Bethany

I'm gonna keep recommending it, but can you consider reacting to Dororo please? It's one of my favourites, and I think you'd enjoy it too. And School Live, I'd rather not spoil that one too much, but let's just say the twist was amazing.

GrumpyOldAndy

It is a bit off-putting, but Arucard is what the Japanese VAs are saying, due to there not being an L sound in Japanese. It also stops it from being immediately obvious what his name actually is.

Coffeedent

This 100%. But I like the dub because it's set in Britain so it just makes more sense in my brain to have it in English

Matt Thompson

Shiki is a good tradition type horror one.

2023-03-08 03:26:13 Well, the difference between this and those Netflix anime... is that those hardcore Netflix anime don't really shy away from full graphic nudity and sex. Whereas something made by and for Japan usually still ends up being kind of censored when it comes to that. Though Japan in general also does seem to have an issue with extreme violence such as dismembership and generally doesn't allow it in TV anime. But there are some exceptions like Demon Slayer... basically if it's extremely popular, anything goes in terms of violence. If not, you're gonna be held to a double standard. Not that there's no nudity & sex in anime, but especially more modern ones are more subdued when it comes to that. That being said, I can't say I think the extreme amount of nudity and sex has actually added anything to any western-aimed anime (like Cyberpunk, Castlevania or Devilman Crybaby). I think it feels kinda purposeless. But it's the same for most non-anime movies and TV shows. I'm generally just not all that fond of it since the implementation is either unnecessary or poorly done (IMO).

Baron Von Aarth

Will mirror the other comments and suggest switching to the dub Ep2 onwards. Most of the time I'm with you where I want to watch anime subbed, but the VAs are just too fun in the dub with this one.

Tekbox

even when I read alucard it took me embarrasingly long to realize it

Tekbox

I would love to see you try out the dub for this one just cause it's really fun for this one

Luchix

At the moment I feel like this is worse than I remember it to be, but japanese pronounciations are probably most of the reason. Alucard and "police girl"'s voices are much better in english.

mr_chillington

The Dub for this is wonderful, and I would recommend going back and giving it a re-watch in dub at some point (and of course the team 4-star version is amazing).

Odinn_AEsir

THE TOWN OF VIRGINS. OOOOOOWWWWWWW

Arcade'owy Łowca

-Who is it? -Oh, you know, a real f^king vampire xD.

Ragnar-sama

28:56 I haven't laugh so hard for a good while, good job man xD

KernoX

I also like eng dub more but even jap dub is good ...

Zanath Kariashi

Basically Hellsing is sequel to Bram Stoker's Dracula (the book). However the accounts in the book while similar to the true events that occurred, are slightly altered by the ROoPK in order to discredit any claims people making about the true events as simply a fantasy sprung from the book's publication. After the events of the Book, Arthur Holmwood uses his status as Lord of Galdaming to push for the creation of a new division specifically to avoid something like that mess with Dracula ever happening again, which funded Van Helsing's research into the occult and is eventually renamed Hellsing (with 2 L's instead of 1) in his honor after his passing. Arthur's descendants eventually take up the Hellsing name as well, as Arthur had a deep respect for and had developed a rather tight father-son bond with Van Helsing over the events of Dracula and it's aftermath. That brings you up to speed on stuff that won't ever be explicitly mentioned in the anime, and was only covered in the manga in some obscure side materials.

Zanath Kariashi

Age doesn't innately make a vampire stronger, however a vampire that has lived a very long time is generally going to be much stronger than a much newer one. The main cut off is the difference between a fledgling vampire and full vampire. While a full vampire can continue to grow stronger over time, they have essentially their full set of skills the moment they become a full-vampire, and it's simply matter of experience and initiative to get even stronger. Fledglings by contrast are only a little bit above ghouls, as they have a lot of weaknesses their sires don't (or those weaknesses are even more severe), are tied to their sire's life (if the sire dies, they die), and have no real powers beyond slightly enhanced physical abilities/senses and endurance, they can heal very severe injuries if supplied with blood and time, but can't regenerate lost parts. This distinction isn't a matter of age, a Fledgling could in theory become a full vampire within hours of being turned, but it will vary considerably between vampires how long it takes to make the full transition, and largely depends on how tightly they cling to their humanity.

Overlord_Ashalon

Catholics are Christians the one Hellsing sides with are the Protestants (who are also Christians). Though there has been IRL tension between the two, it is less of a religious thing and more of a faction thing.

Overlord_Ashalon

Paranoia Agent from what I remember (haven't watched it since like the late 90s or early 2000s) would be horror.

Puraido Eustass

Oh, while I have watched Hellsing Ultimate like a million times, I only ever watched it in German. So it's still going to be "new" for me. Nice.

Juho Kaartoaho

So you would actually believe that DBZ is better subbed than dubbed. You my friend are delusional.

2024-05-15 14:17:16 Am I alone in thinking the original TV series had a more stylish vibe (and better music) than the Ultimate series? (I get the ultimate is closer to the original manga, but I'm not sure that was necessarily a good thing...) Both are good shows, though.
