Log Horizon share same genre with Overlord - Isekai (roughly meaning "Another world"). Though the the genre is so broad that most anime dont have much in common. Log Horizon focuses heavily on politics and strategizing

Not sure if you would enjoy Log Horizon as much as some other series. It is squarely aimed at MMO players. It is REALLY good, but you might be better with something like Demon Hunter, or even dipping your toes into Jojo... (but my own personal recommendation is Saga of Tanya the Evil... soooo good)

I froze with my food halfway to my mouth when you mentioned madoka magica as flashbacks of the show hit me like ptsd. That show is brutal and gory. Right up your alley. Don't let the cutesy name and animation fool you.

Log Horizon is everything I wish SAO was. Also, everything the author (Source Material) rights I love. He focuses more on the impact and ramifications that his settings cause and its SO FUCKING INTERESTING. A LOT of dialogue and not many fights nor great animation but certainly a VERY good series.
