AngelGxbriel

Love this anime, so glad you started it

Damian

Put the eye tracker!!! 😂😂👀

Xaniss

Bro, you watched THIS before The dangers in my heart? Lmao this is a great romance, but it's NOTHING compared to dangers

Mason

Damn no way chat made you watch this 💀💀 can't wait for this one to end

MonographicSingleheaded

0:30 there are A FEW exceptions. Evangelion Australian dub ( from Platinum dvds ) is better than Japanese in my opinion (minus background characters in first episode's opening scene... that was weird), Frieren's English dub is probably better as well. but over all, u r right. imho.

Roxy’s Holy Relic

This anime is such a gem, I’m glad you enjoyed it

Andrej Simic

28.33 Same reaction

Orieng

This anime is so much fun :D

Dj

Since your wife is also studying Japanese, you could practice the pronunciations with her. Watch anime helps you to get familiar to listening, but verbal practice for the muscle memory is also important. This is true for all languages btw.

MonographicSingleheaded

Your pronounciation was actually pretty good. You were right. Chat is capping :) especially when you repeated from memory at the end of that conversation with chat, it sounded really good. my guess is Americans are just too full of themselves LMAO.

Lichrin69

All kinks where winning on that 2nd episode LULW

FabioSpar

Regarding My Dress-up Darling's popularity, it really is way more popular than u thought. It's 1 of the top5 most popular seasons released between 2022 and 2024 (in MAL). It's even the 3rd if you exclude sequels. 1. Spy x Family S1 (1.6 million members) 2. Chainsawman (1.5 million members) 3. Demon Slayer S2 (1.4 million members) 4. AOT Final Season Part2 (1.3 million members) 5. My Dress-up Darling (1.1 million members)

Xaniss

Yeah I know that. I'm just surprised, then again MDUD has been out for WAY longer so more people will have seen it, but Dangers is just so much better haha.

Taiga

16:23 just anime things. Anime character goes out into the rain > Next day in dying. Anime character hits an edge with a really bad head angle > All's good.

PSadlon

They u in itadakimasu is silent, like the e at the end of the of English words like whole.

Some0neElse

for the sub vs dub comment on the start of the video: I think you are absolutely right. And its funny how people watched dubbed anime series on TV and if you ask them - the dub for that series is awesome. But every other anime they prefer subbed. Maybe cause when anime first broke out in the "west" it never had dub and even subs were fan-made... sometimes with snarky remarks popping up. Still - i would watch dub if im too lazy or if theres a good VA in the anime for the dub (like the english VA of Ainz

BornOfOsiris

He did pronounce it wrong in the very beginning. Not adding the extra syllable "da" in there. But chat hyper fixated on the U part and drowned out the others mentioning it. But in the end he was pronouncing it correctly. Chat definitely needs to chill. Hard to tell him how to pronounce things right when people are saying different things and spamming the chat

JammySplosha

i like how luke didnt acknowledge all the people politely telling him the U is silent, only to say shame on you to them, that rubbed me the wrong way, im trying to understand what he means by he hears it differently, you dont hear "Su" because the U is silent thats all there is to it, idk how you got stuck on this for multiple minutes why does he think people are going at him about it?? nobody is, wow. eveyone was politely trying to tell you that YOU'RE RIGHT, yes, everyone hears it ending with an S, you're correct, so why are you acting like people are attacking you, this just hasnt sat well with me at all.

Some0neElse

28:33 Luke became Gojo :D

FabioSpar

It's actually not silent, it is there and u can hear it. It's just that the way it is pronounced in Japanese, is a very short and soft sound. Another examples would be 'suki' (like) or the 'desu' used in polite speech

Jewel Plumbobs

You need to watch Engaged to the Unidentified! Probably one of my favourite romance anime.

JammySplosha

im aware, but you're complicating this more than it needs to be, it is damn near silent, this is the point i and everyone else is saying, again, stop complicating this.

FlyingEagle

It is partly this nostalgia. However it is not entirely that, I think the quality of Dubs went down in general after 2010 with the Rise of streaming, combined with the fact you had to watch subs to not be way behind in a series motivated all the most intense western fans to watch subs. The intense bias for Subs that was created between 2010-2015 or so now means that even very good Dubbs have fewer people viewing them, and people are more reluctant to try the absolutely amazing Dubbs that were produced when entire TV studios devoted real effort to making quality products (Fullmetal Alchemist, Code Geass, Deathnote, Early Pokemon and the pokemon OP etc. being great examples)

Bernie Burton

What I don't understand about dangers is why they set it in middle school. I get high school. But things get pretty racy in the Manga for two 13/14 year olds

Xaniss

I get that, but when you remember it's just drawing and the voice actors are all adults it's easy to ignore. If it helps the author is even a woman, so it's not just a disturbing old man writing his desires lol.

Eico

I would really recommend Horimiya, its a really wholesome romance anime with MUCH MUCH less fan service.

Michael

It is Itadakimasu, look it up for more info, the u is not silent it’s just very soft and hard to hear, sometimes you can make it out, others you can’t. You were wrong the first time because you said Ittekimasu, which he said when he was leaving, they are two different words with different meanings. Chat wasn’t really going at you, there was only one guy.

Mihaly Szamak

Why were they gaslighting him. In いただきます the last character is 'su' but the 'u' in this case is silent. So it is pronounced as 'itadakimas'. Google translate pronounces it with the 'u' but if you look up actual Japanese people on YouTube they don't do that.

Krolliox

So many amazing anime that he can be watching like Soul Eater, Kekkai Sensen, Durarara, Clannad, Golden Time and Oregairu, but people chose the fanservice one like this one.

Matthew Williams

Okay wait, you're aware that what @FabioSpar says is actually correct that the "U" in "itadakimasu" is not in fact silent but short and soft meaning it isn't actually silent at all. But, you said in this original post you made that you were irritated about the fact that all the people who said the "U" was silent during the stream were politely chided. You even stated, "thats all there is to it", denoting that you are 100% correct when you admit you are actually wrong. It isn't about complicating things, either you're right or you're wrong period. You've admitted to the fact that you are wrong, anyone who actually knows Japanese knows that yes in fact the "U" just isn't silent the only people confusing the issue are people who were just wrong like you trying to tell Luke that the "U" was silent, period.

brotato 96

Why are you watching anime you degenerate. Anime is for perverts and wierdos with unrealistic fantasies.

T

Hope Luke keeps just pronouncing how he hears it. Won't be surprised if his pronunciation better than 99% of his chat

Thasquealer

Chat wasn't gaslighting him, it seems they were talking passed eachother. Chat was saying that the u at the end is omited in speach and Luke was saying that is was said differently than what was written. What might have been a good point to clarify to Luke is that there are no characters in katakana/hiragana which end in consonants (except n)

Daithirian

Sad to see this one go Subbed. Amalee did so good as Marin in this show.

Sumic

im ngl, i remember it having horny parts, i do not remember it being this bad LMAOOOO

cread13

It's funny how the only thing people focus on with anime is weather it has fanservice or not. There's a lot more to shows then that. This anime being a good example seeing someone opening up to another person after they had a bad experience before. It also covers a lot about cosplay in general over the season showing what people do to get a look similar to the character they are dressing as.

Jowell

Damn, bros comment on 34:55 in chat was deleted for stating facts. I wonder how many people in chat will whine later on for the age of a fictional character.

Euan Thompson

1:36:50 Since I was in the army cadets when I was in highschool, I thought the same thing there. Also didn't expect anyone else to get it lol

Krolliox

Sure it has its moments(very few moments), but the ONLY reason that its popular is because of the fanservice, which is what EVERYONE kept talking about when it aired and I'm sure is the reason why people picked it.

rostikowb

35:20 Am I the only one who vomits when see nails like that? It's not a figure of speech, I really cringe when I see them, not just in anime. Maybe I have some kind of phobia, I don't know

patros36

Interesting double standard, old man writing a middle school romance is weird, but being a woman makes it somehow okay.....hmmmm

patros36

You said probably, so why are you having a different opinion on something you havent seen?

JQ

The things he will watch to avoid watching one piece. :) jk

Xaniss

I had a feeling I'd get a response like that, I'm not saying it's ok, I'm just saying that there are lots of manga that ARE that.

kiwi

Holy shit, I didn't know Luke was watching this. Peak incoming.

Cédric Michaud

Fanservice is when has no other role than to serve (service) the watchers (fan) what they wanted, and most of the time what is served is sexual content. But "fanservice" in My Dress-Up Darling serves multiple purposes other than giving the viewer what they want. First the show presents the fact that Marin (as a gyaru) is not timid, prudish. Also it shows that Gojo is not used to have females in his life and he is not confident when a girl gets partially undress. Plus it shows that Gojo is interest in women like a lot of man are, and in Marin more specifically on a superficial level at least in the beginning, so a romantic relationship between them is possible. I also want to see a lot Clannad, Golden Time or Oregairu one day, but that doesn't mean I won't enjoy a fairly good romcom like My Dress-Up Darling is.

KeanuofRivia

I just think of it as similar to certain names , Sasuke for example. It's technically pronounced sas-oo-kay but the oo part is so short as to be almost silent. So if you're not paying close attention it just sounds like they're saying Sas-kay. There's a lot of stuff like that in the Japanese language

Silver

At least there's less fanservice in this one than in 'Redo of Healer' (good anime, but crosses the line into hentai occasionally) or in 'How not to Summon a Demon Lord' (a LARGE helping of fanservice with a small side of crappy characters, and a dash of a failed attempt at a plot)

Silver

It's not just you. I strongly dislike makeup and am disgusted by fake nails/eye lashes

Harley Burnie

1:07:30 Damn it. Luke was my last hope for a reacter who actually saw the muff bump. Le sigh. Then, he doubts chat. Lolololololz

Harley Burnie

1:07:50 It even got its own unnecessary sound effect. :/

Harley Burnie

1:25:30 Most, if not all, of those shops are real locations, reql businesses. I am 100% on Swallowtail, at least.

Harley Burnie

1:51:50 She doesn't look like that little asshole is any shape or way, other than being a chick. Lolz

Hashiram

lol, i legit thought the same when i watched that on stream. i even considered to point it out but didnt want to start something there with a certain someone

Tsusaku Cohenat

Oh no Luke, its almost like you know whats the difference between fantasy and reality, like a normal sane person :) (unlike many insane people on social media). You are actually the same like me, i can see any gore in the movie, manga, anime or read about it in books, but in the reality i am ok to see my blood, but cant others. And when i see images or videos with real gore, i know its real and i cant watch it.

Lu C

Just fyi about the eye lid tape, it's to change the shape of the eyelid from a monolid to double lid. I heard about it first time in connection to K-Beauty. It's for sure a thing in Asia more than in EU or US.

Jowell

I'm even hesitant to continue watching the vod now, because I know it'll annoy me when I see some people in chat whine because they can't distinguish fiction from reality. I just hope Luke won't let himself get influenced by this mindless vocal minority or deter him from his enjoyment of the show. Also the fact that he has mods who support this mindset is a bit concerning.

Jonathan

Luke, I know how you are, so be careful when the 2 sisters show up. Their looks are deceiving. You have been warned.

Kenneth K

you're not alone I find them disgusting as well. I saw someone at work with crazy long nails and I was genuinely curious how she's even able to type on a keyboard and do her job.

Chris Gama

Kitagawa is such a wholesome waifu! Best Girl for sure! The way I see it, when she's so open with Gojo right away, just undressing in front of him, is that she's so passionate about cosplay, that something like taking measurements is just a thing that needs to be done, so she is not focused on the fact that she's wearing a bikini in front of a guy...in HIS bedroom no less! She's focused on the cosplay process! Course, yes I think she also likes to tease as well haha. My guy Gojo is more powerful than any Tibetan Monk!!

E

I was so surprised how much I loved this show. Glad to see you like it too!

SamJaz

Dub needs nostalgia to beat sub? Man needs to watch Black Lagoon

Jessie Jones

Does anyone else have an issue where these longer videos lag and get really pixalated? It only happens for me on lukes videos.

Mike Baker

My 2p on the dub vs sub talk at the beginning of the stream: Of course the Japanese dub of an anime will always have the obvious advantage that the script was written before the animation and so pauses and lip-flaps were timed to match the script. The translation has to then match that cadence somehow. Also, there are turns-of-phrase, jokes, and other linguistic idiosyncrasies that just don’t translate well, so nuance is lost (this also happens with subtitles, but slightly less so). Also, the way the actors are recorded is different, too. The English dub will record each actor separately (sometimes on different days) and then stitch it together afterwards. This can work, but needs a really good director to coach actors who can’t hear each others’ lines. In Japan they will have several actors in the room doing one scene all in one go, so less work for the production staff and more reliance on the actors to get it right in fewer takes. Despite this, there are still times when I like the English as much as (sometimes more than) the Japanese. Almost always it’s because of a great director coaching the actors properly. Ghost In The Shell (1995) - Great acting in both, but there are a couple of scenes where the English version is actually better. My Neighbour Totoro (Disney’s dub) - The voice acting for the sisters is far far better in the English. For every other character the Japanese is better. Street Fighter II - The voice acting in both versions is on the acceptable side of mediocre (with the English being slightly better than the original), but what clinches it is the much better music in the English dub - greatly superior to the original. Megazone 23 - I thought the English dub was pretty terrible when I first watched it, but then I watched it in Japanese and faun that to be much worse! But the only reason to watch this today is for the Macross-inspired, Showa-era J-Pop, which is really nostalgic and the same in both versions.

Bryan Wells

Yaaay this is like the second ev3r romance show ive seen and I love it!!! It's so much fun.

Aiko

A Sign of Affection or Yubisaki to Renren is a great anime and many adaptation, high recc

Hououin Kyouma

You are finally watching this anime. Nice! Btw other than 'n' none of the Japanese consonants ends by themselves. It is always followed with a vowel 'a', 'e', 'i', 'o', 'u,' So with the consonant 's' it is sa, se, si, so, su. For word ending with su like itadakimasu transliteration end with su but the u is pronounced ever so slightly and almost silent. It's pronounced Ma-ss like you ever slightly holding on to the 's' that is making an additional sound of 'su.' Btw for the nth time Itadakimasu = thank you for the food. Ittekimasu = I am leaving now or see you when I come back. I think we all are going after you with this because a lot of us here including myself are all weebs. I apologize if I sound kinda offensive.

Mr. Dog

Those camera angles. Arigato! ARIGATO! Camera man! Also Crunchyroll took some extreme liberties into the translation of My Dress Up Darling. The translators tried to inject a bunch of American Pop cuilture references into the subtitles when it's mostly Japanese terminology or the translators just were incorrect in their translations. That's why I go fansubs baby!

Renaud Nadeau

Now that he is on the romance train. We need to steer him towards The Dangers In My Heart!

Albireo

So, in regards to episode 2 when Marin is having her measurements taken and you bring up "there's no way she doesn't know" the thing is she legitimately doesn't. She's an amateur model for a magazine so things like her measurements being taken and having to pose isn't something she gets flustered by or even considers a big deal (for the most part). That said she is absolutely oblivious to how awkward she's making the situation for Gojo despite how social and empathetic she is as a person. It's a good set up with how she acted in the first episode to show off her strengths and flaws.

Jc

they also draw a ton of lewds for it as well lol

2024-05-07 03:37:10 she was messing with him a little, but she is super extroverted and used to extroverted people and due to her job this is more normal to her, and she is vastly underestimating how introverted gojo is, and as another point, I highly recommend giving the books a read, the author leaves little notes about her process and stuff, which are all fun reads, like for example, the wig store is a real place that let her use it in the story.

The GoDKing 27

I’m dying when Luke’s facial expressions 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The GoDKing 27

Gojos peen is like Pinocchio’s nose in ep 2

The GoDKing 27

ITS HILARIOUS THAT IN EP 2 Gojo needs E.D. and Rudeus need to get rid of his e.d.

Roger Powell

On ep2. There is an important info dump In ep 1 when the girls are talking around the podium. One line slips though about Marin's job, If you caught it and understand what is involved in said job it throws a different light on Marin's behavior in ep 2.

Roger Powell

@ 1:35:30 You know I had the same thought. It would have been a great way for her to confess,

wiski

I forgot how much pausing for tangents and backing because you missed things while looking at chat there was in these reactions. Still probably not as much as AliciaxLife though. :p

Roger Powell

I just have to put this out there. IMHO the reason people feel a problem with "fanservice" or "cheaky" in anime is the subconscious association we have with animation being "for kids". If I think about it, I haven't seen anything in anime that I haven't seen in live action TV shows.
