Why does it feel this episode really should have come before the previous one?

Vinland Saga is the story of Thorfinn, the reason Askeladd is such a compelling character and draws our attention to him is because at this point in the story, Askeladd is the sole reason/focus for Thorfinn to live right now and we're kinda of watching this through his lense imo

Askeladd is the best character in this show and it's not close from 1 and 2 at least, I havent saw the rest of manga so cant speak about after the anime yet.
