The thing is they already explored the plotline of Shirley getting her memory back all in this episode, if they stretched this further, it would just end with her trying to help Lelouch but she would really just end up getting in the way and dying. This way makes things more tragic for character development and sets up plotlines for Rolo's character.

There are some moments in anime that stick with you, Great fights are up there but those painful twisted moments tend to have a more lasting effect. I originally saw code geass back when it was airing and to this day this is one of the episodes that has stuck in my mind. Euphy's death hurt but she was a player in the game she knew the stakes. Shirley was a bystander in all this wrapped up due to circumstance and didn't deserve to die like that. Welcome to yet another pain longtime anime viewers carry with them luke!

I love Jeremiah, I love Rolo. You may hate both now but they grow on you. Suzaku is also a good character imo. Only one I ever dislike is Nina.

The English and Japanese voice acting during this episode was peak, in my opinion anyways.

Tiny trivia, but Lelouch's Japanese VA was actually rooting for Shirley and Lelouch too, and I guess that helped with the beautiful voice acting performance in this scene. Rolo's Japanese VA actually liked Shirley very much as well, and he even apologized to Shirley's VA for killing off Shirley lol.

Those school episodes may feel random, but they're the small ordinary happiness that Lelouch treasured very much, and Ashford academy is the place for him to return to after all this is over. With Euphy's death, Lelouch's path to reconciling with the royal family is completely closed. And with Shirley's death, Lelouch's path to a normal happy life is closed off as well. What would happen next from now on?

well, when I watched Code Geass for the first time I was also terribly pissed off about Shirley's death, but after a few rewatches I don't care and I much more prefer the Lulu x Kallen or Lulu x CC ships, so Shirley's death doesn't bother me anymore

They wanted you to "feel for Rollo" and then give you a reason to maybe not be so gung ho about loving Rollo. I did and I do feel bad for what happened but I am more anti Rollo than anti the show because he was so selfish here.

I'm more inclined to ship Lelouch with C.C. but I really like Shirley as well both as a character and as a love interest for Lulu. I think that Shirley and Lelouch could've become a great couple if things were different. Her love is so innocent and genuine despite all of the horrible things she experienced, some of which were caused directly by Lelouch and well, now she's dead. This episode hit me hard when I watched it for the first time and also made me hate Rolo (until a certain scene). Shirely was one of the few characters keeping Lelouch "sane". She was as others have already pointed out a part of his humanity. She basically represents his innocent school life and the type of person he is when interacting with his friends.

Code Geass in a nutsheel: A room full with many open doors all around. every time u try to go through one, the door closes in ur face. Yap, nothing "seeing where this goes" Also there are 3 characters i dislike in CG: Nina (Pure disgust), Shirley (eye roll annoying), Suzaku (face palm annoying) PS: this opening specifically always makes me feel so nostalgic, also sad and calm and the same time.

The point is just this; to push Lelouche to a point where he has no off-ramps left to derail his ambitions. It's a pivotal moment for his character and for what transpires over the rest of the series. It is also a reminder to us viewers that characters integral to the story aren't safe. In a lot of other animes, a character like Shirley wouldn't be allowed to die and there would be some dues ex machina way to bring her back. It may seem out of left field and totally unnecessary now, but eventually it will make sense. CG is an anime of long games both in terms of the actual story and of the reasonings behind why certain things happen. The good thing is that we're at the peak of the coaster now, nothing is left in the way of that massive drop that takes us to the end of the show.

I think Luke wanted Shirley to join the Black Knights and help Lelouch, but honestly I think Lelouch would do everything he could to prevent that lol. That was why he erased her memories of him in the first place. It's too dangerous for a civilian high school girl. Lelouch would have been long dead if not for his Geass

Give up on Lulu x Kallen, the remastered movies simply removed the sus scenes between these two. And sorry for pointing out the fact, but Lulu x CC is kind of far-fetched. CC is like a great-great-great grandmother to Lelouch, and there has been no romance buildup between these two.

I know this movie isn't canon, but in Lelouch of the Re;surrection it's heavily implied that there's more between Lelouch and CC. And in general, there has always been an interesting kind of chemistry between Lelouch and CC, they often flirt and tease each other and maybe there are no romantic scenes between them (apart from the kiss at the end of season 1) but I think their relationship wasn't based only on romantic feelings, but also on respect, trust and they were great accomplices, the perfec duo. What is more, she is the only person who know everything about Lelouch, she know his true face, not Zero, not Lelouch Lamperouge, but Lelouch vi Britania. Btw. in s2ep24 they are probably about to kiss, but Kallen interrupt them. Of course, there is no clear information that there is actual love between them, but I like to think that there is. They definitely make a more interesting couple than with Shirley

The creator themselves confirmed that Lelouch didn't see C2 as a lover in the anime official guide book, so there's that. And you're being rude commenting that you dont care about Shirley's death when it's obvious that Luke liked Shirley Lelouch together and this is tragic episode for them as well. You are ofc free to have your own preferences, but would be cool if you can be more considerate

I think I like their relationship because it's pure feelings and there's simply nothing to take advantage of since Shirley is only a civilan girl with no combat abilities or anything special that could help with Lelouch's revenge plan. Lelouch truly is just a high school boy when he's with her, and it's really cute
