5:40 because when they let him out they needed his battle skills but now they have the britannian royal guard fighting for them and think they have nothing to fear from this rebellious warrior. 16:00 If the knights of the round had pressed the attack even after the common people of China Rose up in rebellion rather than retreating, or if the rebellion took too long to develop then Lelouch could have lost here at least that is my interpretation. 18:20 the black knights and those that followed 0 are either sitting on an island off the Chinese coast or with 0 20:30 if you mean the thing with Anya and CC hmm seems interesting I'm sure it will come up again sometime in the next 10 episodes or so. 27:20 regardless of whether it was written by 2 completely different directors or not, there wasn't a manga as Code Geass is a rare anime original series that became extremely popular 33:40 Time for high school shenanigans between the epic pilots and leaders of opposing factions!

Leonard

Thats a perfectly reasonable way to tie up a dangerous war criminal/terrorist...

Nikkelz

Publicly the eunuchs' have to show the empress significance but in private are using her as a puppet leader. They don't hold any value in her life only in the publics appeal for her. Quite common for ancient China as assassinations on emperors usually left a child on the throne which would have a ruling council or a regent to rule in their stead until they came of age. This usually ended in many court factions fighting over who gets to rule from the shadows.

Khanh Minh

Finally the China arc is over..It's the only one arc where I never rewatch whenever I rewatch Code Geass...

Remember Lelouch is still pretending he's not Zero, if Lelouch uses his Geass on, let's say, a Britannia soldier and makes that soldier fall out of line and betray brittanian for his benefit, people like Suzaku, who knows Lelouch used to be Zero, might attribute that soldiers random behaviour to Geass, that they know Lelouch is in possession of, Lelouch needs to use his Geass wisely, because if they find someone under Geass Lelouch's cover is broken.

Juandormo

Well, about the Robots (Knigthmares), it is indeed something that they will do to showcase more powerful machines, nonetheless they do foreshadow their appearance, this time in episode 9, at the island where the Japanese arrived in china, the beautiful scientist said that they recovered Lelouchs Knightmare of season 1, that is how they developed the floating wings, the canons of the Black Knights ship, and this new Special Robot for Lelouchs.

Suraj ayinde

Remember the Nightmare they stole on kamine island, in season 1, that was supposed to be the best nightmare, but it wasn't finished, the nightmare Lelouch is using now is based of that nightmare, basically they finished an unfinished project, it's not like that nightmare came out of nowhere, they've been developing it for a while now.

Wobbly

Code Geass is not based on anything which is why the writing can be a bit "inconsistent"

Dasher

It's not that weird to have new knightmares keep popping up when you have two genius rivaling inventors on each side trying to counter each other. It's not like they just gonna sit on their hands doing nothing the whole time. Plus it's more of a customized models based on specific pilot's strengths, and not some game changing thing that is instantly OP against everything else. Tohdoh got that sword based special model, but aside from looking cool it didn't really do much. Xing Ke's Shun Hu did benefit from superior specs and piloting skill combination, but was still overwhelmed by sheer numbers and strategy. And Lelouch had been using a basic model for the longest time to be just a commander, so of course he would eventually put the researchers to work on something specialized on his strengths. With the absolute shield system and that prism cannon both requiring insane realtime calculations to use effectively, that knightmare would be pretty useless in anyone else's hands. The only things that were gamechangers, are just logical evolutions and even in real history always speed up in times of war, especially when enemies get hands on each other's technology and can analyze and improve on it. When Lelouch stole Gawain with Lloyd's Hadron Cannon, Rakshata perfected it by converging the beams and now we have that massive red beam weapon that melts dozens of machines in seconds. Now that Lloyd has his hands on Rakshata's Gurren with Radiant Surger and Gefjun Net installed, one can only guess what sort of stuff Lloyd can come up by studying that. Is it really necessary to keep pausing and making same joke/complaint everytime there's fanservice shot? It's already clear how Code Geass rolls by now and we know it's not gonna change, so doing that for the 50th time is getting even more annoying than the shots themselves. If I had to guess the reason it being like this is probably because it's an original anime with no source material, so there are no manga fans to promote it's initial popularity, so they use these shots to have people screenshot and spread them on the internet to lure in the horny fanservice watchers and have them stick around for the story, and then having half of those that loved the story to take over spreading the popularity for the right reasons, but at the same time had to keep the fanservice going to retain those fans that did come just for that.

after the 1 million japanese that were transported on the iceberg ship got to china, they were loaded off on that artificial island made of metal and that island was temporarily gifted to the Japanese as a sort of refugee home and to serve as the base of the black knights.

14:30 - This is actually pretty funny. G.O.T. mentions how it's bad that new "stronger" nightmares keep popping up, while for me, that was one of the best aspects of Code Geass warfare for me. They actually show the evolution of technology in warfare. It's something we know about every war, military tech develops FAST, and new, stronger weapons are developped all the time. What is even better, is that in Code Geass, you can actually track the development of these weapons as the anime progresses. You can see how the experimental Lancelot started the development line, as well as the Gurren MK II, and Schneizel's Gawain. For instance, you see Lancelot having a shield, it's super experimental. Then the gawain gets the shield, then the same shield is further developed and is put on the Avalon, an entire ship. And then, practically all best quality Knightmares come with shields. The tech is experimented, then used, then put into mass production.

Саша Милошевић

First sentence that Luke says after every Code Geass episode "Code Geass is so weird"

K.O Tsitra Eht

So yeah, just as a disclaimer, this twist will continue, because new tech is actively being worked on. After all, Rhakshata is always with Zero now, so her team is working, Same with the Earl of Pudding, his teams keep innovating as well

Patrick Jacobsen

"we keep seeing stronger knightmares". it's almost as if technology keeps improving and don't stay static.

Rem is best waifu

Code Geass definitely could end 5 different ways. Luke may guess how it ends but idk...

Yami Shoumetsu

oh right...i've watched this anime multiples times yet I never considered that during this time of the story...

JOSHUA A STERRETT

"It's like it was written by an absolute genius but cowritten by a huge pervert!" Who says you need two writers for that? Hot take: Code Geass was written by Rudeus Greyrat.

Orieng

For a Patreon exclusive i seems Code Geass scores very low... Around 100 true fans, but that is it. Hope the next show does better, for Lukes sake :)

Subaquatic Toaster

Giant Robots with laser swords: Fine Floating Sky ship that uses advanced levitation tech: Fine Mask that changes your voice: Where the hell did this come from?!

Subaquatic Toaster

They literally have two well developed science teams who's only job is making the Knightmares better and stronger every fight to counter the enemy. It's a war.

MAH1RO

Lelouch and C.C. are in a kind of relationship. More than just bros. They know of the others secrets and powers, goals and fears that they didn't share with anyone else (aside from Kallen a little bit). They don't show if they are lovers or not, but it's implicated with many intimate moments and they are always there for each other. And they really like each other too, even if they never directly say "I love you".

rostikowb

00:38 If you have 1-3 temporary slots for emergencies, it will be best 03:00 Flying robots that shoot lasers and flying fortresses from Marvel are okay, but a realistic face mask is too much! - Luke 😂 18:00 Actually, in my country, there was something similar, the special services of the enemy country even hacked a TV channel to show a deepfake of our president, but it was of such poor quality that everyone just laughed. However, technology is advancing, and their latest deepfakes were not bad, especially the one where our military commander says that the front is broken, we have lost 500k soldiers, and the president is trying to get rid of him. If it was shown on TV and the numbers were a little more realistic, maybe someone would believe it. Even though it is ridiculous now, who knows what will happen in the future 31:00 LMAO I don't remember that, my brain has cut all the fanservice out of my memory, it's so funny to watch Luke suffer trying to read the subtitles on the СС ass 😂

Zer0

I bet the ending will be surprising.

FaerieRose

Yes, please stop pausing every time there’s a fan service shot. It’s become repetitive and forced.

Jammy Jimmerino

that nightmare isnt new it was the one he got from the island to escape awhile back, rakshata just modified it up a bit

dragean greyfield

You can think of the knightmare as an equivalent to our nuclear arms race. Each mass produced knightmares get collected for both sides then remodeled. Each idea is half baked until they get the other sides nuke.

TheCreature

i personally freaking love to see the arms race, new knightmares and new tech popping up all the time. Its fully what I would expect to happen in a world full of war. They need to keep updating their troops otherwise they just loose, as the other parties all do the same

FlyingEagle

weird its one of my favorite parts. The first time I watched it was crazy confused about what was happening and where the show was going, but it has some of the most interesting political messages and tactical situations IMO

karensuzuki

Remember that the Avalon (Schneizel's floating battleship) and original Lancelot was shown to have energy shields way back in season 1, and in this episode they mentioned the shields on the new mech coming from the Gawain's systems (which in turn was developed by Schneizel's research team before Lelouch stole it). It stands to reason that the tech always existed and didnt just appear out of nowhere, the Black Knights just needed time to get it working

FlyingEagle

considering its popularity on other channels it seems likely that Geass fans are a different crowd from what Luke has attracted previously, especially since its the first mecha show he's watched. This makes it more of a shame its not on youtube where it would bring in the new audience

Orieng

I am not sure if 86 is a mecha anime, but it did alot better. I think it would have done better on yt

alicev89

For your first point there is more to it, at first they actually wanted the Empress back because they still need her to marry her off to a Britannian and they can't make a new Empress if the previous Empress is alive, because what if the original Empress returns at a later point it wouldn't look good on the world stage for Britannia to have married a fake Empress. Once they knew they could kill her off then creating a new one wouldn't be a problem.

Stefan

Again you got bumboolzed and you were stuck in Lelouch’s teleportation, but I agree regarding on the abundance of fan service, sometimes it is really not necessary, but ofc I won’t complain 😂. That scene with the very important discussion about political marriage was so hilarious, Lelouch leaving it for a “very important meeting” with chatterbox Tamaki and leaving even him for even more important call and to get from Lelouch “Passions have the power to change the world!”, it was so crazy 😝😂 Sayoko bubble trouble… It is good to make an ally from someone with Garou’s VA

Khanh Minh

I could kinda predict the whole Xingke getting betrayed and video message part even during my first watch so it didn't interest me that much. The Xingke and tghe empress's story is fine but it's a bit too similar to Lelouch and Nunally kind of relationship (there's some slight difference ofc, but still an older guy trying to fight and make the world a better place for a little girl) so I'm not that invested either. This arc also didn't get me emotionally invested in any of the characters so I never rewatched it once I know the outcome of the general events.

Spikà

I love how Code Geass is like a very technologically advanced world with giant mechs, but the idea of a highly advanced costume is somehow surprising, lol.

CharonMendus

Luke, trust, you will NEVER predict Code Geass's Ending.

One G. O A. T. One Dream

"I love it, but it drives me crazy" that um might still just be love, but in any case im right with you on that. The mask of plotwist was sooo random, cool but goddamit CG you cant keep pulling this bs, tho i feel thats also a product of 90 anime. go even further back and anime cared so little a about logic there could be a time machine in one ep and no one would even think of using it again or explain why it was even there, it just be for a one off gag that would not even be that funny. XD oh the old days :P Yeah Code Gearss is a special kinda of fish, not prefect but dam interesting.

Krowft

I don't think they were ever interested in the empress except as a political pawn in the marriage, but they can do that anyway with a puppet empress. They were only interested in capturing the black knights, who they were going to hand to Britania as an offering, and Xing Ke seemed to be able to predict Zero really well but was obviously motivated by the empress. So they just used 'rescue the empress' as motivation to get Xing Ke to lead the fight against the black knights. But once they captured Kallen and cornered the knights, and once the knights of the round were called in as backup, they no longer needed to use Xing Ke so they no longer needed the empress to manipulate him.

Facio

34:00 anyone else just giggling manically to themselves?

Michael Redmond

27:35 this actually and anime original there is only spin off manga for it

Harley Burnie

15:40 I get where you're coming from, but in a prolonged war for power and freedom, of course both sides will ALWAYS be working on the next big thing. If your enemy has surpassed your best more than once, you'd be busting your ass to make sure you win with the next big damn deal.
