One very important thing to keep in mind with this show is that its truly a "Saga" in the definitive sense. Absolutely no spoilers because this is my favorite story of all time.

It's episode 2 and I'm already getting emotional. Knowing what happens ahead, I feel fear. Fear of what happens in the future. The kind of fear a parent has for their children. This show is heartbreaking and devastating. It's like weathering a storm that continues to beat you trying to drown you, never a moment's respite. The winds of war are calling. Time to set sail and weather the storm.

I think the four most brilliantly done - perfect music, art direction, script, acting - anime of the last few years are Frieren, Vinland Saga season 1, Oshi No Ko, and Mushoko Tensei. All were sheer perfection.

The viking holding the bridge is during william the Conqueror which is in the latter half of 1000s and this story takes place early half of 1000s
