When spending the day at a nude beach, the clothing may be optional but how you act is not. No matter where you live in the world, the unspoken rules of a nude beach are quite universal. So no matter if you are a first-timer or a seasoned skinny dipper - Here is what you need to know.

1. Be sure it's an actual nude beach before stripping off

This is probably the most important piece of advice I can offer... Make sure the beach you're on is clothing-optional BEFORE stripping off. You will find 'official' and 'unofficial' nude beaches scattered around, both will invite you to strip off beyond the marked sign where you can remain naked and not worry about a surprise visit from the authorities for indecent exposure.

On the occasion that you've found yourself somewhere secluded and want to go for a skinny dip, be mindful of newcomers and simply excuse yourself and cover if they catch an eyeful.

2. Don't stare!

Curiosity is a natural part of our human nature and sometimes we like to take a peak, at whether there is sexual intention behind our thought or not. But it is important that you NEVER stare when at a nude beach. But if you have wandering eyes, perhaps bring a book or something to occupy yourself.

3. Think twice before striking up a conversation

If you're looking for a new community of like-minded nudists/ naturists, perhaps nude beaches are not the place for that. As friendly as you feel, think twice before striking up a conversation with nearby beach-goers. Although you may have good intentions, you are entering a stranger's personal space in a vulnerable environment and that may just make someone feel uncomfortable. So always remember, consent is key!

4. Pack sunscreen & apply it yourself

Sometimes we all need a little reminder to double-check we've packed the sunscreen on a beach day (sun safety is the new sexy) but when you find yourself having difficulty applying the lotion to the small of your back, don't ask a stranger for help... It's creepy.

5. Leave your camera at home

No matter how eye-catching the scenery may be that day, put your camera down and just enjoy the moment. When you pull out a camera in a nude setting, even with the purest intentions, it can make people nearby feel extremely uncomfortable. It may be their first time, or perhaps they are battling self-esteem issues. But one of the biggest considerations (in my opinion) is the accidental capture of someone who needs to remain anonymous when attending a nude beach. This may be due to safety, their family, or their jobs.

6. Keep your distance

Unless Bondi Beach suddenly joins the free-the-nip movement, there will always be plenty of space on a nude beach, so when finding a spot to lay out your towel, be sure to keep your distance from others out of respect.

I would love to know, what has your experience been at a nude beach?

Good points , I might just add a little extra to #1. Recently I went to Chihuahua beach in Uruguay, the beach is officially a nude beach but it has limits and something I learn is that not all the time they are as visible as you would want, in this beach the sign saying: “no nudity after this point” was broken and partially covered in sand so it was easy to make an honest mistake. So I would say:Make sure the beach is a nude beach and make sure you know it’s limits.
