Funny that they didn’t get the video because generally music videos have little to do with the music, at least it used to be that way maybe they’re more literal now? Lil nas x I believe got a lot off flack for his sexualized videos. I think it’s just anyone not straight showing their sexual orientation gets hate cus ppl are so close minded. Maya trying to rationalize irrational obsessed fans is hilarious. She always tries to give qt the benefit but sometimes you just can’t 😂 Jojo siwa’s song was catchy, very basic but catchy for sure. Not sure why qt would think she’s trying to be Taylor with that line she adlibbed, not everyone is trying to be her 🤷‍♀️

so apparently karma was a song made back in 2012 with a full music video by someone named brit smith and produced by timbaland. tbh the original version is kinda slays in a 2012 way. timbaland shows up in the mv and miley also recorded a demo for the song. i know its normal for songs to get sold and passed around but its so weird how much jojos pushing this narrative that she wrote her songs

I will say to Maya's point at 14:00 that yes, male artists do this all the time, but Jojo Siwa is by NO means, the first queer artist to have an explicitly sexual video. People (or at least rational people) don't get upset with sexy queeer videos, but this one is just incredibly bad and cringey 😭. Like I will watch Chapelle Roan, Troy Sivan, Kehlani, lilNasX, Orville Peck, or Boy Genius homo it up any day!

Thank you for showing us all the music video for jojo’s new song. Another thing i forgot about jojo’s legacy is that apparently there was some dance competition show where jojo was the lead or trainer or something and she had to pick and make up her dance troupe and all that, and apparently the contestants in the show have spoken out about their shit treatment on the show and I don’t think that show came out too long ago. The kids on the how talked about having to practice long hours each day, when someone had a medical thing happen they were urged to return to dancing before the doctor’s recommended. So that’s super cool lmao, just wanted to bring that to everyone’s attention as I know its a meme to clown on jojo rn, but maybe lets not forget victims of her piss poor actions

It’s definitely not “kill myself bad” but all the branding around it has been done pretty poorly. It’s pretty crazy to portray this “bad girl” persona when it’s all being done on the back of a song that was shopped around through the music industry for a while. Overall just exceptionally mid. Maybe, idk you could buy your own building and charge peeps to do pop ups and events there. I work at a donut shop and my bosses want to buy the building from the landlord so I know it's expensive but it would be a good investment.

one problem people are kind of forgetting with taylor allowing (and arguably encouraging) speculation surrounding the breakup with joe is that it comes at the cost of viewing her music as anything more than gossip. less and less of her OWN FANS are listening to her music because of the artistry behind it, they’re listening because they think they’re her friend and want to know more about her private life. folklore and evermore are no longer being viewed by fans as examples of taylor’s immense musical strength, they’re seen as the cracks in their relationship. midnights isn’t seen as a thoughtful album where retrospection is used as a form of introspection, it’s now only seen as the breakup album that no one knew was a break up album. i really wish we could go back to the days where we loved songs like all too well and enchanted and clean and fifteen because of what they meant to us, not because of taylor’s personal life.

I think theyre giving JoJo too much credit in regards to rage baiting. People grew up hating her so theyre gonna hate her (unnecessarily) for almost anything she does. JoJo is just doing her own thing and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. People are gonna hate regardless of whether its deserved or not.

I havent had a chance to comment before, and im taking a little break from the podcast but qt and maya talking so openly about therapy and their experiences has genuinely made such a difference in how i view my own mental health, and the mental health of those around me. Im a 21 girlie and still learning a lot about life, I will never understand everything but therapy is so important to me because I've heard others talk about how good therapy is and see how it helps them. If anyone is struggling with whether or not they need therapy pls put yourself first! Taking care of your mental health helps so much:)

Yeah, pop culture is just very fragmented and weird now. First, one had to be on a specific corner of reality TV to know or care who Jojo Siwa even is, then second, one now has to be on a specific corner of TikTok to be on the bandwagon of everyone shitting on her and the music video.

Maybe the promotion riddles are "part of the artistic process" as much as the songs themselves (are they based on the lyrics in the full album?), but I'm a little more with Maya's viewpoint that it's cringe vague poetry prologue pretending to be deep.
