Well, that seems a more productive approach than butchering each other in an airport?

 Happy Holidays, everyone. I'll be semi-randomly dropping back in here, once my stress levels lower a bit.

Getting a little meta there....

... and the lovliest of all was the u-ni-corn.

Bing looks like a happy camper. I think he wants a unicorn or, being Chinese, a kirin.

My little Minkie, my little Minkie ... . C'mon guys, someone else chime in here. I'm having all the fun.

Ohohohoho boy. This is seriously going to start some sheet. @.@ I'm anticipating a massive load of preconceived notions being a major factor in the eventual potential horrors that may ensue. >.> Get enough people trying 'literally everything' to make magic 'work' and you'll eventually find something that makes something else go boom, or at least kersplat. ^^;

Now that this side story is finished I just wanted to say all of the mistakes and things that don't make sense are my fault... except the "rrivate jet" that goes RRRR-RRRR-RRRRR, that's all on Karno. I pitched the idea of spies trying to recruit Mink for their governments in an email and as such it was a rough outline that wasn't well thought out. Karno liked it so much he started drawing it faster than I could ask "Can I edit a few things first?" Hopefully there will come a time in the story where Mink will meet The Powers That Be (the real movers and shakers, the ones who eat illuminati's for lunch with a nice chianti) where we will learn more about the world stage and how Mink does/doesn't figure into it. And maybe show how much clout OMA has with the truly IMPORTANT important people. For example: Scene opens with Mink and Hardee being led through impressively high class hallway to massive vault doors that slowly swing open to a vast cavernous dark room. As they walk forward the vault doors close behind them with a threatening "DOOOOOM." Lights that are psychologically placed for maximum foreboding slowly glow to life revealing how big the chamber is, how intimidating the council stage is designed and how small and insignificant Mink is by comparison. Hardee notices how intimidated Mink is then rolls his eyes and shouts (he has to because the cavern is so huge) "Seriously? We're gathered here to discuss something bigger than Metahuman Powers and you decide to turn the drama up to eleven? Hrumph! We'll be in the cafe across the street if you want to have a proper discussion instead of all this," waves hand dismissively, "_Theater._" and escorts Mink out through a hidden side door. Next scene is inside the cafe as the Council of Ultimate Political Power straggle in, thoroughly rebuked and feeling a bit embarrassed being called out like that. From then on they ask Mink questions about magic, what it can and can't do, speculate over what magic could mean in a world of metas, order coffee drinks and snacks, etc. You can help Karno out during his vacation by thinking up what questions _you'd_ ask if you were a world leader (either public or secret) because if I wrote him another rough outline late at night after watching oodles of anime I'm sure to make a lot of mistakes and oversights like I did with the spies. And probably ramble on way too long as I tend to do with these kind of things.

One thing to make clear would be that anyone can learn magic but most can't do much with it because they are limited to the energy in their own body. We saw that with Sid Blindur. Someone like Mink has a "gate" that allows her to draw in external energy and I guess convert it to magic (mana?). That is her only actual "power". Everything else she does is a learned or developed skill at manipulating that magic energy.

Paul Lenoue

Good question! If anyone can do magic the world would become a big mess of extinction-level events, so there's got to be some kind of limiting factor in play. In the old days basic illiteracy would have kept the number of mages down, and remember that back then writing wasn't standardized so even if two mages spoke the same language they'd still have trouble reading each others tomes.

I just noticed this Sierra looks a lot like the Sierra that is the girlfriend of Landslide the cyborg from Karno's story "Damsels To The Rescue" from 2017.

I may be misinterpreting what happened with Sid also. Perhaps there are levels to it. So say Sid, for example, has the basic ability to manipulate magic but lacks a gate, while Mink has both the manipulation ability and the gate to bring in extra energy. If that's the case then the majority of the populace might lack even Sid's low level ability.

I know that last line was a reference joke to MLP. But sir, given the world you have created, an anthro pony with magic powers, wings and a horn with tattoos on her hips (ex stripper?) Is Very possible!

Another thing to consider are people who have gates but no inherent ability to use it. There could be many metas who use rings, wands, special words for their powers and everyone believed (up until now) they have a meta power that needs a focus.

I dunno, maybe monkeys will fly outta my butt. And I don't wanna know how they got there.
