If you are a connoisseur of ethnic jokes, you may be aware that the Scots are often depicted as being careful with money.  Which is no insult, at least to me - I've been known to practice thrift, myself.

It was a skewed perception based on how immigrant Scots needed to watch their spending until they'd established themselves.

My Dad was a Scot by heritage, a child of the Great Depression and a Connecticut Yankee by transplantation (from Ohio). He could squeeze a buffalo nickle and sell the dung for a penny.
