No Longer A Matriarch (Patreon)

Constance "Connie" Chang was the matriarch of the Chang family. She married her husband right out of college and the two ended up with three lovely daughters by the time Connie was in her late twenties. Unlike other parents, Connie kept them on a schedule until each girl graduated high school. Her eldest daughter, Abbie had made her exceptionally proud by securing a career in the government. Something to do with transferring matter between two planes of existence. Nothing Connie herself cared about, but it was definitely a great conversation piece she often used when she bragged about her eldest girl.
At the moment, no one was bragging. What she was currently focused on, like a laser, was her youngest daughter.
"You don't call or write your own mother for over six months and then wait until we're having dinner at the most expensive restaurant in town to tell me and your father that you flunked out of university!" The fifty year old shouted at her youngest daughter as she stood up from her chair.
Anna winced under her mother's harsh verbal onslaught. She had tried her best, but unlike Abbie and Angie, she wasn't exactly bok smart. The young woman had to resort to paying her classmates in high school to do her homework and let her copy off of their tests. Now her mother was creating a scene, throwing one of her legendary temper tantrums in the upscale Seoul Garden restaurant and, If she kept it up, the whole family would end up on social media.
"You're such a stupid girl! Why couldn't you be more like Abbie?! Why do you keep putting such shame on the family!? Do you like making me and your father look bad?!"
Anna didn't even answer her mother, she stood up and walked away from the table. It was an awkward walk, but she passed by every other table in the restaurant while her mother kept shouting insults. She felt bad for her father and her two older sister's who had to sit there. They looked miserable.
"Run away! That's all you're good at!"
