I'm for watching the opening. It has hints about what kinds of things will happen but not explicit spoilers... on the other hand, if you watch it after the season is over at that point any hype from it will be gone, so it'll be kinda a lame OP reaction.

To start with to answer your question on the manga, yes it's still ongoing and we are currently on chapter 238 and for reference episode 7 left off in the middle of chapter 83, in addition the author Gege Akutami is working closely with Mappa to add a bunch of anime original stuff into the show as well, such as a big extension to the Geto vs Toji fight, the basketball scene from episode 1 and the trailer for human earthworm 4. Now to get into the episode, to give a quick explanation on simple domain, in short, it expands a small domain around the user that unlike actual domain expansions cannot trap enemies in them and doesn't have a curse technique as part of it either meaning it is on the user to attack the enemy, the simple domain can't do it for them. The simple domain is able to defend against the domain expansion because having 2 domains overlapping each other cancels out any sure-hit attacks (in this case idle transfiguration) until one of the domains is released. What Miwa did in season 1 was set up this simple domain with the condition that if anything entered her domain then her sword would automatically swing at it, and while this is an offensive use of simple domain at the end of the day Miwa is still making the attack not the domain so it can miss. In conclusion, while it is nowhere near as good as a domain expansion it is excellent in a pinch for those who don't have or cant expand their own domains to defend against an enemy domain. And lastly just a few things about the new characters we meet at the end who are preparing to deal with what's about to go down in Shibuya, first off there's actually a slight subtitle difference compared to the manga on the grade of the head of the Zen'in clan leader Naobito, while the anime lists him as "special grade 1 sorcerer" this is actually a bit confusing as it may lead some to believe he on a level with other special grade sorcerors, however in the manga he is listed as "supreme grade 1 sorcerer" which better shows the fact that he's not really a special grade, but more like the strongest of the grade 1's. This is because you can't be promoted via a recommendation to special grade, you either are one or you arent, and only the officials at Jujutsu HQ make that classification. SO Naobito here represents the peak powers that a grade 1 can achieve which makes sense considering he is the leader of one of the 3 major clans. Once again great reaction can't wait to see you get further into the Shibuya arc.
