Well then. Sure didn't take long for me to grab a new arcade machine after moving, ha. So let's take a nice look at it here on LGR, because I am super stoked to have this thing! ...And also because a significant chunk of my home was totally closed off last week since popcorn ceilings were being removed and walls repainted. So it goes.

Anyway, ARCADE GAMES.

Grab your purple toothpaste lasers and get ready for some shooty action. Raiden II has been right at the top of my most-wanted list for as long as I can remember, and finally last month I was able to find a good cabinet and put together a vertical shooter setup. The Dynamo HS-5 being used here is a classic in its own right too, which housed tons of arcade games from the late 80s and well into the 90s. And I was pleasantly surprised to see how easy it is to work on. Not all of the planned repairs, upgrades, and customizations have been done yet, but we did at least get the proper marquee and all-new controls installed in this video. More to come in the future as I gather components and tweak things, for sure!

And now I'm not entirely sure what's next. I'll be recording the June LGR Wrap Up for $5+ patrons in the next day or two, so those of you on that tier can expect that soon. And then I'll be driving across the border to South Carolina for the Southeast Game Exchange show, which happens over the weekend! I attended last year just on my own to see what it was like, and it was really fun, so this time I'm an official guest. I'll have a table there selling some LGR merch and generally hangin' out with folks, so definitely stop by if you happen to be in the area. Otherwise I'll see you on here in another week or two with a new computer retrospective that I've been working on!

I Got My Most Wanted Arcade Machine! Raiden II from 1993

Grab your purple toothpaste lasers! Raiden 2 has been at the top of my most wanted list for as long as I can remember. Now this one is mine, acting as a vertical shmup JAMMA setup. The cabinet is a Dynamo HS-5, a classic in its own right, which housed tons of arcade games in the 80s and 90s. Only some of the hardware repair work is complete but we do at least install a Raiden II PCB, matching marquee, and upgrade to all-new controls in this video. More to come in the future as I gather components and tweak things, for sure! ● LGR links: https://www.patreon.com/LazyGameReviews https://www.twitter.com/LazyGameReviews https://www.facebook.com/LazyGameReviews ● All background music licensed from: http://www.epidemicsound.com 00:00 I got a Raiden II arcade cabinet! 00:55 Dynamo HS5 Video Game System 02:28 My house is a MESS so let's do this 03:09 Arcade machine specs and things 04:52 Going inside the cab is super easy 05:56 Gratuitous Raiden II gameplay 06:25 Viper Phase 1 & HS5 conversion kits 07:56 Fabtek and JAMMA arcade PCBs 09:48 Backlit marquee, monitor bezel 10:28 Replacing the controls 12:51 New inputs are great! Got to ask being from NC here ... been over here to check out Wieners And Losers in the triad / W.S. area ? Might be worth a visit and could probably be a good content piece too. Happy to see some more arcade vids here and there from ya. That's what happens, move into a new house with bare walls, you can fill them with arcade cabs.

LazyGameReviews

Can't say I have, but I've seen videos about it online! Looks well worth visiting, they have some rare cabs.

Matthew Taylor

Absolutely. Been going for years here and he really does take pride in sharing that collection. Now off to watch some Raiden 2!

Always love when arcade games get shown off on your channel!

Finally, the first piece of furniture has arrived. 😁 Due to the massive weight of that cabinet, I thought it came with a dead body inside. I am relieved it's not the case.

Anonymous

Heh "case". It's definitely a case for the arcade hardware.

That was a therapeutic watch session. Thank you.

While you're there don't forget to check the local thrift stores :)

That thing is awesome. I've always wanted my own ms pacman or a racing cabinet like Daytona usa, maybe one day if I have some space

SuperTekBoy

This is awesome! Glad you got the cabinet of your dreams.

I think this was the machine I played at a local Pizza Hut, and now I want one too lol. Bought a sit-down arcade cabinet several years ago (Hydro Thunder) because I remember playing that one so much more at our local bowling ally. One of the most unique things I ever purchased! Great video!

I’ve had this exact plan for years, one vertical cab and one horizontal cab, with support for JAMMA boards but also a PC with MAME in the cabinet. So far I’ve compromised by building a cocktail cab (based on the Midway Ms. Pac Man style) so that I can sit on the horizontal side OR the vertical side to at least see the games in their native rotation and not with black bars. Thanks for the video and inspiration to do more!

LazyGameReviews

Oh nice, that's not a bad idea at all. Especially if you're limited on space or haven't found a suitable upright. Love cocktail cabs, they're just neat.

LazyGameReviews

Ooh Hydro Thunder, that's a great one. Also Arctic Thunder, which I always enjoyed how it blows chilly air on you while racing through the snowy landscape

LazyGameReviews

Definitely will if I get the chance! SC Goodwill stores do tend to differ from NC stores a bit.

Daytona USA is *way* up there on my most wanted list, right alongside Cruis'n USA and San Francisco Rush. I'd buy any of those in a heartbeat if it was the right price.

I love arcade modding and restoration videos. Looking forward to seeing the journey on this cabinet continue. Congrats on your acquisition.
