Ahh, finally. This has been one of my most-anticipated releases of 2020, by far. And after spending a couple weeks completely immersed with both the closed beta and full launch versions, I am super excited to share my thoughts on this one. What a technical achievement, this is one heckuva simulator with a bright future indeed.

Hope you enjoy this one, and have a nice week!

Yes, been waiting for this one!

Super awesome! I was most eager to hear your review above all the rest. Ya didn’t disappoint.

So glad you decided to do a full review! Enjoyable from start to finish

LazyGameReviews

Thank you! Yeah after I ended up with four pages filled edge-to-edge with talking points I knew I had to just bite the bullet.

Wait they have Winston Salem? That’s crazy. They don’t even have Charlotte properly modeled lol. Hoping to see it in the near future

The anecdote about seeing the plane flying over your house and then finding it in the sim to fly is just astounding to me. Great review!

LazyGameReviews

Thank you! That is such a fun thing to do, hehe. Love getting an immediate view from the sky of my exact area.

This was fun. Besides the ones you called out, I was thinking: Hey, it's Greensboro! Hey, it's Durham!

LazyGameReviews

Crazy stuff huh? Seeing such easily-recognizable skylines in a base flight sim is a dream come true.

fantastic video! i tried this game the other day... but my nvidia 1070 and old proc took a beating. i think i need to upgrade quite a bit if i want to have some fun. clint, did you purchase it on steam directly? or through MS?

LazyGameReviews

I got it through the Microsoft Store, yep! Steam only acts another launcher program to load before the MS online stuff anyway, plus their version also provides access at no extra cost to the Xbox port once that comes out.

Great review. =) I did notice a slightly dodgy cut at ~20:14, just thought I'd let you know! Man I need to upgrade for FS2020... Still hanging out to see some detailed breakdowns on what settings run OK on what rigs... Although I have to wonder if they're going to support DirectX 12 eventually which might change things up there anyway (I'm kind of shocked it doesn't require, let alone use it being such a flagship thing for MS!).

LazyGameReviews

Ah thanks, I'll fix that! Among a dozen other little things I've noticed already haha. Yeah I'm looking forward to Digital Foundry's performance and graphical breakdown, I know they're working on it right now. Lots of options to choose from and things to tweak.

As someone who hasn't played any flight sims, this looks incredibly fun! Maybe I'll pick this up?

I've played the balls off this game, and I've learned so much from this review that I didn't know!

Hazel Davis

This game definitely feels like the first time I've seen a video game and thought 'now this is the future'. Seeing a plane outside and being able to pop into the driver's seat- amazing!

This looks like heaps of fun, thank you

Hygge!

Joon Choi

Amazing - now this is a proper usage of the “cloud” to enhance a gaming experience in a way that would just not be possible offline. Thanks for the great review Clint.

I always loved Pilot Wings 64 because of the possibility of flying around and fooling around with the environment. PC simulators were always too complicated for my taste. But maybe I'll give a MSFS a try.

Anonymous

Eh, I think I'll wait for it to fall to under $150.00 before i look at it.

Mark Elliott

What a great review, loved every minute of it. Good job Sir.

You must be my spirit brother. When you compared the sim to a model railroad I almost squealed withe delight.

Two comments: (1) It never would have dawned on me to use the Maps app to check for photogrammetric data. That's a genuinely helpful bit of information to help raise (or temper) expectations about the visual experience. As it happens, 3D data stops literally across the street from my real-world home airport. So close, and yet... (2) You outdid yourself on the tail number puns. Braaa-vo. After all, a Hygge-plane, at its core, is simply a faster (yet equally convivial) Gemütlich-kite.

Thank you for the review, Clint! :)

I am also feeling hygge (timestamp 19:55)

Ohhh.. Spotted Fort Worth at 12:27!

WOW!! This really looks great! Sadly, I would still crash right away. :) Fun video!

Awesome vid! FYI I noticed a weird audio thing around 20:15 with the narration

Man, I would REALLY love if they kept the Melbourne monolith in the game forever as a sort of Easter egg, but I'm pretty sure it's bound to get patched out

That looks awesome! Straight away went to the Microsoft Store to download, thank you Game Pass. As an airfield engineer I now am looking forward to seeing Dublin and Cork airports, to find out if anything I designed made it into the game.

I was really hoping Jet Fighters would be available, but I guess it would push computers even more, and data loading would cause stuttering. Hopefully they can find a way to do it in the future so we can all live our inner Top Gun.

Clint: "A crop dusting game would be nice." (names his plane "FARTS")

Anonymous

Awesome video as usual Clint! Where can I book passage on Farts Airline?

Anonymous

Those tail numbers... just... hilarious! :)

Anonymous

Woohoo, Dublin may be generic airport #4 in the game, but there was enough detail in the game to render some pavement I designed. Does this make me a game developer?

Brilliant review!!

Seems like a really cool game!

Totally missed this review, awesome content! Didn't know about Developer mode or the option of taking control of a real life flight, this sim never ceases to amaze. I agree 100% about the game modes: so much potential for this title in the future for adding fun activities to do... And the tutorial for jet-powered planes is really missing, I hope they add something like that as well. Thanks for sharing!
