Seems that Patreon is rolling out a new feature to a number of creators, LGR included. As of now, everyone in the UK, EU, and U.S. can now pledge to the LGR Patreon in their local currency of Euros (€), British Pounds (£) or U.S. Dollars ($)! The idea is to help prevent you paying conversion fees from your bank or card when pledging in a currency that’s not your own. Instead, I'll be paying the fees on my end.

This means that new folks will see my tiers priced in their local currency of €, £, or $. And for you existing patrons who would like to switch your preferred currency you can follow these steps:

  • On Patreon.com, hover over your avatar in the top right of your screen.
  • Click Manage memberships.
  • Find this page, and click Edit.
  • Under Currency, choose your preferred currency.
  • Click Update to save your settings.

For those of you outside of these currencies, you’ll continue to see your pledge priced in U.S. currency.

Check out this help center article if you have questions about changing your currency, or this article if you have questions about how tiers are priced in these new currencies.

But yeah enough business. Keep an eye out for some new LGR coming soon! Got a nifty MS-DOS retrospective thing in the works that I'm quite excited to share.

As much as I appreciate the sentiment behind this, they done the Apple Tax way of currency conversion and done $1 = £1 which means they’re putting a MASSIVE markup on (£1 = $1.31)! Which is way more than the MasterCard Exchange Rate I get from my Bank. It’s a shame that if I wanted to up my pledge, I’m going to be ripped off. To put this in perspective, last month I paid $21.60 to Patreon which equated to £16.57. If I change to the new model, I would pay £21.60 so an extra £5 or $6.50! This just stinks of another Patreon royal cock-up!

Well, let's not forget the Aussie Dollar, too (even though I am an American), one has to wonder if there'd be anyone wanting to exchange for some peppermite sandwiches (oh, I think I butchered that name up).

Vegemite? Can't promise it would last but I've always wanted to mail a sandwich...
