Folks have been asking me about more LGR Christmas Clone lore.

Hahaha at 1:30. :)

Next year I would love to see an end where you walk into a room full of CHRSMS clones, each with a game to review, and then a clone closes the door behind you.

ogspeace

hahah cool effect at the end. christmaaaas.. gave off an eerie feel. haha

Now it kicks off the LGR Christmas Clone Cinematic Universe.

Really enjoyed the personal anecdote and thoughts on demos and shareware. Thanks for that! Throughout the 90s, I never played the full versions of nearly all of my favourite games (Duke Nukem II was a rare exception), only catching up on the rest of the experience via abandonware sites in the early 2000s. Despite the gratification of finally finishing these games in their entirety, the wave of nostalgia hit hardest with what I remembered. Perhaps that was the death of shareware. It was a great gift for small budgets, but so much of a gift that the full games would often go unpurchased. Anyhow, the whole shareware era was a huge part of growing up for me, and it’s always nice to hear it talked about.

So does this mean you’re all clones, or the clone is in reality a Jekyll-Hyde situation? :) Anyway happy New Years Clint! May 2019 be the best year of LGR yet!

Okay, that was disturbing.

I left a comment earlier but it seems an errant finger motion on the mobile Patreon app was enough accidentally delete it, so allow me to restate myself! Much like the initial PC GameShark video upload, this unfortunately is not working on my Roku or computer, but it DOES load on my phone. It really sucks YouTube keeps giving you these issues. Also, you have House in the Tall Grass on the wall?? Fricking awesome, I only have the cassette of that one but I collect records as well and that's a neat one to have up.

I truly find the ending a disturbing portent of what is to come. As for demos like Jazz - I certainly have feelings of that era of mid-90s shareware as well. Probably even further back to when I used to get games & demos off the covertapes mounted to various C64 magazines which I'd get a hold of. Certainly something about that era which I still find fond… maybe it was a rough sense of curation as to these-were-cool-games, which I dunno… maybe is kind of lacking in the same way now… what with algorithms and what not? Have a happy new year man! Can't wait to see what's in store for 2019 :D

After watching this my Nostalgiagasm has reached new heights! Ahhh memories, wonderful memories..... Having insane amounts of fun while playing through a bunch of shareware titles in the 90s, then picking which ones I wanted to buy - and I bought quite a few (being gainfully employed really helped back then). As for the video's ending, all I can say is......well......um......that was.......unique.......I guess ^^; PS: How's the Lazy Green Giant Clint, is it back in good working order?

Wow, the Christmas clone makes some great videos. Or isn't he a clone at all? I sense a new YouTube channel rising 😁

I always wonder about that point that you played so much shareware back then, maybe i was lucky but could always get an external backup from someone with almost any but the obscurest games. And then there were specialized gaming rentals. Rent the game, run to the copy shop with the manual or use good old Unprotect, which i actually bought from my pocket money back then when they went commercial, and have fun. Sure, nowadays i simply buy the game i want, but nowadays i work and have the money. And the patience for Steam sales, which will come mostly three months after the release of a game. You can almost always count on that. ;)

This is some Agent Cooper is Bob Twin Peaks weirdness at the end. I love it!!

Oh, man, I miss demos and shareware so much. Nowadays it's a rare event when even an indie game has a demo.

Alyxx the Rat

I relate so much to feeling more nostalgia for shareware versions of games than full versions cause I played the shareware versions far more than the full versions I play now. Cause back then we didn't always have access to the full versions...

Can't be, there was a creepy background head pop of the clone around a minute and a half in while he's holding up boxes.

Are you from the US? In most places here, consoles were so popular no one really did the disk copying for PC games. (And barely anyone had Atari or Amiga computers)

Bad case of the Donkey Brains, seek help!

I remember spending an awful amount of time in front of the magazine kiosk back in the days, looking for the one with the best included demos and sharewares. Also, have you ever considered doing a montage video of all of the LGR Clones' appearances?

LazyGameReviews

Nah, but I've seen others make LGR compilations so I'm sure a viewer will do it if they haven't already :D

LazyGameReviews

Was still processing when I posted, but it should be good now. And yep, Kikagaku Moyo is radical!

There's certainly a sense of excitement and exploration that's missing, I think. Used to spend hours just perusing shelves of shareware disks and BBS listings, imagining what new favorites must be in there. Especially thrilling back then to find anything new by Apogee, Epic, etc

Love the little weird changes to the intro for this one: the Godzilla roar instead of "ahhh," and the eerie hum at the end. Creepy good.

SuperBunnyBun

Fun Fact, Lori Jackrabbit was a character designed by Dean Dodrill, the animator for the Jazz Jackrabbit games' cinematics (and later went on to create Dust: An Elysian Tail practically on his own)

Dan Loeb

I almost missed that tv bit in the beginning. https://imgur.com/a/POYVuqu

Because Why-Nerd

Looooooove when a story arc takes it even further, and now we have to pander, if the Clint Clone is actually a Clone, or maybe two in one... like Tyler Durden in Fight Club.... :D Og yeah, and the review was Awesome, i played the shareware version a lot too when i was younger, buying games was not in the family Economist, so we had to Go with What we Could find cheap or free. Looking forward to more LGR in 2019.

Hey Clint, I scouted swiftly on the comments and didn't see nothing 'bout this: Can we see more of your Hi-Fi? It looks like a really nice setup you've got there... Thanks for the Xmas special and have a lovely start of the new year!

jazz jackrabbit was the first game I ever downloaded from the Internet, via some ancient vax machines, xmodem, and file quota getting-around, so it always has a special place in my heart :)

More of a cliffhanger then the end of season 2 of Stranger Things

LazyGameReviews

I'm happy to answer questions about it here, but I don't anticipate making any videos. It's one of the few hobbies I haven't monetized and turned into "part of my job," so I prefer to enjoy it by myself so I can have fun with it at my leisure :)

Kikagaku Moyo fan? Sweet.
